Great video mark. Very similar to mine. Bread, blue cheese, grated powdered parmesan, sea salt, skimmed milk powder but i use pinch chilli flakes and grated mashed luncheon meat. Double chub favourite 👌

Made this over the weekend. Was satisfying when it all came together in a nice clump. Instead of water I used the juice from a tub of prawns, just so I experimented slightly. Looking forward to getting out now and giving it a go - Thanks Mark, am enjoying these videos a lot.

Thanks Costa, took a while to get around to doing, glad you chaps are finding it of use.

Tried this mix and froze it till i went fishing, tried other baits first Bread & Worms no bites. Put on the chesse paste and within ten minutes a Barbel of 8lb followed by another of 8lb 5oz. Yes it works and i well experiment with other chesses. Thank you Mark for sharing the recipe.

Really enjoying your videos mark. I used to fish the thames nr egham in the early 70s when I was a teenager, but only ever caught bleak, which were very welcome as we don't have them up in the north west. I made up a batch of your cheese paste last night for one more trip to the river wharfe before the season closes. I made my first visit to the river wharfe on Monday this week and used the filling from a cheese pasty out of desperation as I had nothing for the first four hours on maggot, caster or worm. In just over a hour I had a 3lb, 4.5lb, 5.5lb and a 2.5lb chub. my previous PB was under pound so I was well happy. cheese paste is the future for me on the rivers. tight lines mark.

Hello there Paul, my apologies for such a delayed reply. How did your last trip on the Wharfe go using the cheese paste recipe? That was a good bit of ingenuity to use the cheese from the pasty and sounds like the chevin were really in the mood for some cheese filling, but who could resist a bit of pasty filling at the best of times haha. Well done on the 5lb+ chub pb that is a trip to remember too, sounds like you had plenty of action. Thanks for the kind comment, I am glad you have been enjoying the videos so much, I was meaning to pop up this cheese recipe last season, glad I finally got round to it.

I was using stright cheese paste 30 odd years ago and know how good it is ....but I did not know about freezing and thawing and freezing and thawing. Best cheese paste fishing post on youtube. Very informative. Just subscribed on this post. Way to go pall.

Hi again from France Mark, thanks for the recipe ! Sounds like a French recipe, bread, garlic, Roquefort blue cheese...try adding some good red French wine, can only make it better ! I think I'm going to invent real English paste for my French Barbel and Chub, i.e.: Baked beans, bacon flavour, spaghetti rings, bangers and mash, Mother's pride loaf, and...a pint of bitter please ! Great video mark,i love seeing how people make and prepare their bait etc..... like you say,no definite rules and everyone has various recipes . I like to add mustard powder to my mix and I believe that specimen angler Tony Miles does the same ???Good tip,ref looking out for reduced items at your local supermarket,my other half works at our local Asda and often brings home cheap blocks of cheese for freezing and even picks up the odd whole sardine for dead baiting.The cheese don`t last too long in our house,i love the stuff but it doesn`t do my gout much good !!!A video showing your worm keeping etc..... would be great.Tight lines to you sir !!!

Hello Nick, Glad you enjoyed this video, I was worried it might be a bit too long, but wanted to be as thorough as possible. That is very true we all have our own confidence boosting ingredients that we like to use to spice up our bait recipes you're not wrong there. I must admit I had not thought of mustard as an additive, that would certainly give it a good kick in the flavour department, I was considering a marmite and cheese mix, for a bit of a savoury slant. Ah you're a bit like myself then for liking to consume some of the cheese, I am similar in that despite it giving me headaches I still cannot stop myself from having a nibble haha.

Great informative video Mark, May give your recipe a try next time I make some cheese paste. I myself add a table spoon of olive oil this helps paste from drying out. Tight lines Paul

You're welcome Paul, this did actually take quite a few takes due to me making a bit of a hash of it due to a combination of stuttering and rambling on. The olive oil is a good idea, either that or margarine, although I usually find that I don't have a problem with it drying out, probably due to the addition of the krill and powdered milk paste solution added to it.

Thanks Mark. Im after a new pb till the end of the season all on Throop Fishery (stour). Finding the bigger fish is a process of moving around and trying different spots. i try to avoid the crowds and more popular swims. May add a bit of spice (paprika) to the next batch of your excellent recipe. Tight lines to you!

You're welcome Harry, it's a good recipe although like most cheese paste recipes, you can adapt it and change it to suit your own additions and tweaks.

Sounds great!

I've found that rather than making a big batch it's quite easy to make a fresh golf ball sized piece with ingredients pinched from the fridge (might as well make yourself a cheese sandwich too while you're at it!). I've had some good success with extra mature cheddar, bread, crushed garlic, salt and freshly ground black pepper. I've used a few drops of extra virgin olive oil to soften the mix before and also used left over boiled potato instead of bread. I dare say adding something like krill meal will take it to the next level although I haven't tried that yet. I personally love the smell of cheese paste and the fish seem to agree, one of the first chub I caught with it was a 6lb 12oz beauty.

I think I'm right in saying (if not Mark will correct me) that the paste can be frozen. So by making a large batch you're actually saving time. Just defrost it, take off as much as you need for your session and bung the rest back in the freezer. I've kept paste in my freezer, in a plastic bag, for months. Not the same paste as this one but I'm sure this can be frozen. Edit Just seen comments below from Mark and he says you can freeze it for up to 2 years, maybe more.

I remember years ago reading about a cheese paste recipe that had orange zest in it... festive!

Enjoyed that Mark, love watching you fishing for chub. Ever used short crust pastry dough instead of bread? Makes the process much easier. I' stalled at 5 pound 2 Oz before giving up 5 years ago! Watching you and the ginger fisherman has rekindled my interest and am at the river again! All the best!

Cheers Paul and no I won't use short crust due to the it causes the mixture to become less soluble in my opinion. I am one of those who is firmly in the bread camp.

@@francolinobascoAfter 5 years off I have just started fishing again. I can see in the cold weather with shortcrust it does 'harden' around the hook. Must admit I'm surprised that I'm struggling to catch chub on the river Cam in Cambridge. Years ago I could guarantee at least one or two, sometimes many on cheese paste or frozen prawn. Two visits in and have blanked! Are chub in decline?

You're welcome Jack, I used to use pastry as my ingredient but stopped a long time ago as I am not a fan of it by comparison. I generally find with bread you can really get a better hooking consistency when striking through to fish.

top chef trick...cut the garlic into small pieces mix with the sea salt and a tad of oil n slide the back of a knife over it on a board, repeat a few times n BOOM! garlic puree ;) awesome vid tho dude, will be making this in the future :)

Made some up today Mark as per. I put too much water in, so added a bit too much Krill powder, now it sticks of krill rather than cheese. Must get the liquid right next time, Rich.

Great and informative video thanks, i mainly fish commercials for carp (not a dedicated carper) would you recommend this paste for that sort of fishing or would you add something to it? Always like to have a contingency if pellets or meat fail to produce. Many thanks

Thank you Jase. This will work very well for commercials, no need to add anything else to it at all. The combination of the Allicin (ingredient released from the crushed garlic) dried milk protein and krill will be all you require as shown in the video.

I can go a pretty close second to that Tom and at some point perhaps do a video showing you the wormery that we keep in the garden along with the multitude of composters that keep a ready supply of Dendrobena/tiger worms and the such. Breeding lobs on the other hand would be akin to turning water into gold, as they are darn difficult to breed in captivity.

A good way to get lobs is a damp lawn at night with a torch and some large forceps, creep around and very carefully grab them before they shoot back in their holes. Another not so friendly way is a weak water and washing up liquid that brings them to the surface. Give them a quick rinse in fresh water if you choose this evil way. Also keep harvesting the krill, who needs whales and sea fish ;-p

@@olderandy4798 given how over fished the seas are anyway, I think the angling industries use of krill is only the tip of a much bigger iceberg regarding sea fish stocks, so it seems a bit harsh you making such a comment. Maybe we can get Japan to stop whale hunting first and other forms of negative netting before having a go about Mark using two or three table spoons of krill!!?

Hello there Twitch, I must admit i mainly use it for chub fishing, but i don't see why roach would not like it. Perch on the other hand no, you would be better sticking to worms,maggot or small live baits.

You're welcome Lucky Frenchies, yes I have in the past used anchovies and sardine brine/oil, the main problems you generally find then is that the paste breaks down and falls apart too easily as you are adding additional oils in regards to fish to an already fatty paste (due to cheese content) which is one of the reasons I tend to use dry krill powder mixed in water rather than pure liquid krill extract.

I wonder if i can offer a version of ingredients? garlic as a part of fishing bait can be purchased from middle eastern food stores in a super duper concentrated form, cheese can be anything, a smokey style of sandwich slice works best for me. and for the krill component, a form of concentrated prawn (shrimp paste) from any south east asian country, indonesia or malaysia,. It is also known as "TRASI" or "BELATCHAN", recipes can be many as there are cooks, cheers

That is a tough call, because you'd effectively be adding oil to an already fatty component which can cause seperation and a very soft paste mix, which is why I generally use krill powder instead.

Hello Lee and thank you, the reason for the addition of the milk powder, is that it helps create a paste that has a more potent creamy leak off once in the water, as well as acting as a feeding stimulant on its own.

Yes I use maggots for my perch fishing as well as Dendrobaena worms (red worms/ tiger worms) and Lob worms (Nightcrawlers). As well as at times Wax Worms, which fishermen in the U.K don't really seem to use that much but are a superb bait for perch as well.

Hello Alex, I am afraid I can't help you with regard to that part of the Severn as I have never fished that location. However I do have friends who live in Shropshire who have fished near there and caught, although it is fairly busy usually due to it being quite a well known location/tourist hot spot.

at 5:08 or so You touched on Garlic... What Us Chinese Chefs do is pop the garlic ( after cleaning of course) thus smashing it... then chopping/dicing... Then You can add all of it...

Now that does sound interesting, I will try and look into that online, I am guessing that means you are left with less husk as well? Generally I put any garlic left over into the ground bait mix as it is a superb additive and attractant. But would be interested in knowing more about this technique that you recommend. Take Your Cleaver and smash the Garlic then peel it... And THEN chop/dice to right consistently

Yes you can Gary, I just showed it here for people whom might not have a blender, but a blender is what i normally use for large batches.

You could grind down pond food/feed sticks in a food processor, but it depends on what type you are planning to mix in as part of the cheese paste recipe and how much of it you might be adding, as some pond food/food sticks can be buoyant and this would have the same result on your paste mix depending how much you were going to add.

Hi made some of your paste today went to a little river by me had 6 fish landed 1 went totally under gunned mono wise could.nt stop them getting into snags wont make that mistake again brill paste ash

You can use this cheese paste for Chub, Tench, carp barbel it works for most of those species, I was making it here for Chub in particular.

Mark Erdwin Many thanks for reply. If you have any effective bait recipe especially for Carp fishing bcoz in our waters' Chub, tench & barbal are not found. Only Carp & mrigal is found. I shall be waiting your positive & fruitful response. Thanks

Of course that is not a problem. The ingredients for a cricket ball sized paste mix (1lb mix) are the following: 12 Slices white bread with the crusts removed. 125 grams of cheese, I prefer to use blue cheese, Camembert or Brie, but others work well along with combinations of more than one cheese. crushed Fresh garlic ( 2 to 3 segments) or garlic purée Two to three teaspoons of Krill powder Three heaped teaspoons of dried milk powder Two generous pinches of salt Place the salt, krill, dried milk powder and crushed garlic or garlic purée into a glass and add some water, mix this well to create a thick paste and add this to the bread and cheese. Begin to mix all the ingredients together. Keep mixing until the mixture is smooth and make sure there are no lumps left. The final mixture should feel like пластилін or шпаклівка. As an optional extra you can also add 8mls of Richworth Blue cheese extract per 1lb of cheese paste mix.

+Андрей Кириленко I personally use it for chub and river fishing more so in winter, it will work in clear water or in a flooded river, it especially comes to its best in coloured/ flooded conditions, due to the flavour and scent trail drawing fish to it, but this will work throughout summer too and is a very good tench bait.
