Another bad makeup habit is not washing your brushes/sponges weekly! I know it's a pain, but the amount of bacteria those things accumulate in a short period of time is so gross! I have an alarm on for sunday nights that says "clean tools" so i get it done each week. Literally takes 5 minutes and they're all prepped and ready for the work week on the monday.

I can't use brushes let alone sponges twice without washing. If you really can't be bothered, at least get a cleaning spray to kill bacteria. (Edit: Not criticizing or judging anyone who doesn't wash brushes every single time, btw. I'm overly attentive to it. It's OCD and this is me WITH meds, so ... 😆 SPONGES are different though, wash or spray well every time, they are notoriously foul! Mold, mildew, bacteria, filth ... Wash the bitches 🧫🦠)

Don’t use those little rubber sponge holders (the ones that totally encase the egg shaped sponges). I bought one and it even had drainage holes meant to keep the sponge dry, but it didn’t do anything except grow mold on my sponge within 2-3 days of it being in the holder.

Thankfully I was a 90s teen so I didn't learn most of these bad habits. Although I do remember hearing from adults back then to let my skin breathe! All I had to learn with was magazines and books by makeup artists like Kevyn Aucoin. My pet hate is watching people drip product straight onto their face, especially if they let the dropper touch their face. The manufacturer made it that way to keep bacteria out so the formula stays effective!

Also thank you for mentioning the “if you’re having a problem” bit at the end of the eyebrow discussion. So many makeup tips & advice don’t take into account people with alternative styles. Just don't use pure jet black on your brows if you're not mediterranean/POC/tanned, bc it will look harsh and unnatural on paler skin tones - unless you are rocking the goth look! I have often colorful hair - currently dark blue. My roots are chestnut, I re-dye the roots in a darker color like blue black or dark purple, you get it. Robert, I feel so sad when I see adolescents and even adults who really need to see a dermatologist. Back when I was much younger, I didn’t even wear foundations and I was getting persistent acne on my neck, strangely enough. I can’t tell you how important clear skin is for girls and boys during the teen years. You can spend hundreds of dollars on cleansers, masques, toners, exfoliants, Lord knows what else, to try and fix the acne. Finding a good dermatologist or General Practitioner can address the issue so much quicker and cheaper in the long run. Yes I agree we have better products now than decades ago when I struggled. All we had back that then was Clinique.

When you talk about going to a dermatologist people will naturally think you mean acne specific medication which you can only get from a dermatologist and can come with nasty side effects. Your statement about cleansing is odd, acne is not caused by people not washing their face. I'm sure there are a few but acne can be largely genetic, and the bacteria for the worst types of acne spreads under the skin, so no amount of cleansing can help that. What normally happens is people wash their face too much with harsh cleansers which makes acne worse.

Using a puff/sponge with sunscreen sticks for reapplication is such a clever idea!! It might not give as good coverage but it will disturb the makeup a lot less which is what I struggle with

Applying & reapplying sunscreen is the big one for me. I tend to always carry some sunscreen with me, lotion and stick forms. The other way I found to keep sunscreen on was by putting some in one of those refillable Korean-style foundation compacts with the face sponge. I don’t wear heavy makeup so not sure how well it would work in that case, but I found it worked great over lighter coverage makeup.

Congratulations on the sponsorship!🎈🎊🎉 I haven’t heard of this brand of sunscreen but I like what I’m seeing! Easy to carry and reapply. Love the CORRECT tips and tricks! And the what not to do. My natural hair color is very dark brown. My skin is very fair with pink undertones. I have caramel lowlights throughout my hair as well. My brow hairs are pretty dark like my hair color. I try to go with the LIGHTEST shade of brown I can get away with while still having the brows look natural bc if I go with my real brow color and fill in it is very stark against my fair skin. It works bc of the caramel I have throughout my hair. Oh and I have dark blue eyes too lol the only nice thing is that if I choose to go with blonde I can pull it off with my skin and eye color. But I totally agree about the brows! I’ve listened to you talk in several videos about powder and ‘setting’ and I have taken your advice. I’m in my 50s with more mature skin and I use hardly any powder. I have normal to dry skin and powder will easily make my skin look drier and aged. I’ve also adopted the ‘less is more’ when it comes to foundation and concealer. I hardly wear concealer at all and foundation only where I need it. Thank you again for all your advice! Have a great day! Hugs! 💜 🖤

A friend of mine and I got into a minor row about that whole 'skin breathe' thing last weekend. We were going to an event and she asked me to do her face (very light eyeshadow with a kiss of blush since those are the only products she owns). She admitted that she looked nice and that it wasn't 'too much'. But after the event, once she'd removed it, she started saying things like 'I couldn't wear what you or other makeup girlies do because my skin needs to breathe' and I flat out asked her 'Don't you think if makeup really suffocated the skin, the FDA would've shut down all the brands producing it since it would be a health hazard?' She had to admit that I had a point. I also pointed out that makeup in the last 30 years is soooo much more skin friendly than its origins of colored grease paints and waxes. I also pointed out that most of the makeup being worn these days sometimes has more skin boosting and nourishing ingredients than some actual skin care lines. Also that as you've said, when I do wear makeup, I'm more thorough with my removal and skin care before/after than days where I don't wear it. I even asked her 'I wear makeup all the time. Is my skin full of pimples? Is it dying?' I'm older than she is but look younger than my age. Again, she had to concede the point. I asked her where she got that idea about skin not breathing and she admitted...it was from older male friends that she hung out with. These mofos don't even WEAR makeup so how are they having a say about it like they're the least bit informed?!?! In short, folks...don't take advice from f*ckers who don't even use what you are interested in.

Ugh the “let your skin breathe.” Gets on my nerves! Aesthetician here! We learn that when your makeup is non-comedogenic and doesn’t cause problems for you skin, you SHOULD be using it a lot! Makeup is GREAT for your skin. It helps keep out environmental factors and other fine dusts and smoke.

You only get the spf rating on a product if you apply approx 1/4tsp of it, which is fine for a nice sunscreen, but crazy looking for a foundation or powder. So you should have on sunscreen and any other products are giving you MORE sun protection, but you can't calculate how much sun protection it actually is. More is more.

You'd need to use an egregious amount of your foundation (enough to look incredibly cakey) to get anywhere near the rated spf the brand claims it gives.

@@rojo3779they're not putting it in because it's redundant, they're putting it in to attract people who don't know how sunscreen works, which is honestly most people.
