Back Up Camera install Nissan Frontier

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today on DIY WILLY we're installing a new NATIKA (Model WD-011) Back up Camera in my sons 2008 NISSAN Frontier 4.0 V6. The camera will go in as close as I can get to the factory location. Really easy install and a perfect project for a DIY'er. After completing the install I cut the purple wire on the harness to switch the camera from the sitting to the hanging setting. Everything worked perfectly as expected.

Thanks for the video. I've been wanting to do this to my 05 Nissan Frontier and actually wanted to buy a newer year tailgate cover with camera. I don't like the camera on license plate look. What kind of radio do you have if you don't mind me asking?

The radio is a Alpine ILX-W650 with the 450 amp on the back. Camera is very clear and accurate at that location. Thanks for viewing and leaving a comment/asking a question. Glad the video helps and if you have any other questions please ask. Thank You

Great work Wily 👍 I would run the wiring first before making holes and realizing I don't like it's location 😳 Wish I could find one that has a Microphone, You know for those stops that go something like "Do you know why I stopped you?" Do you know how Fast You were going?" 🤨

Yes I understand the need for a microphone. I just did another camera install and I talked about the wiring a bit more. Also ran the wires and tried it before drilling holes. Everything turned out great. I probably show that video as well. Might answer some of the questions other people have asked. Thanks for watching…👍

Super helpful thank you!! I bought a new touchscreen stereo that had the option to come with a decent camera so I bought it. For your stereo, did you have to buy an aftermarket mounting kit, or were you able to use the factory mounting brackets? I'm worried that the angle of my new stereo is a little steeper than the stock stereo and it may not lie flush with the bezel once installed!

Thank you for the comment and question. I did use the factory mounts however I had to drill new holes to center the stereo in the bezel. It takes a little trial and error to get it perfect but you definitely can use the factory mounts. I guess I should have done a stereo install video. Hope this helps!!

Hey willy maybe you can help me I have a nissan frontier 2014 and I bought a 8 inch stereo it wouldn't fot so I traded for a 7 inch but I have to push the radio out some to get the face plate on I even bought a dash kit and I still can't use it because the dash kit in my truck want come off do you have anything you can tell me I can do to get mine to fit without any gaps would really appreciate it thanks alot

Hello Crystal, without seeing what kit you purchased or how it’s fitting in your truck it’s hard to give advice about your problem. What can say is I had to drill new holes in the metal brackets that attach on the side of the stereo to align it with the trim piece. You can also take a file and oval the hole’s enough to get the same result. Hope this helps… Thanks for watching..

Nice job. Can I install a modern double din radio that has Android, and Waze GPS , along with a Back up Camera? I'm looking for a high tech radio to install in my 2006 Frontier, I want to Modernize the Frontier with a higher tech Radio, Considering the 2006 Frontier only has 37k miles on it. My older uncle sold it to me, because he can no longer drive 😢. He only used it to his appointments and Supermarket runs. If you know of such s double din radio, Please let me know. Thanks.

Yes any double din will fit with the install kit. Be careful though some are deeper than other requiring extra work to make fit. Try getting a media player only I feel they are easier to work with. Make a list of what you want the radio to have and then search following your needs. I don’t know what your budget is but there are some cheaper units out there that offer great modern tech and won’t break the bank. I would look at Dual or Jenson. I’ve used both and had great results. In fact the Alpine in the truck now replaced a Jenson that worked great probably 6years. Only changed it to update the radio. I would take a look at Crutchfield and see what’s available. They will show all the parts needed to get you on your way to great sound. Once you know what you want them shop Amazon and probably find a better price. Also think about upgrading the tired speakers from 2006 and look at the GTO series. You will not be disappointed. Thanks for watching and good luck shopping. I think that’s the best part. Stay safe and enjoy that new to you truck. 👍

  • @DIYWilly

Yes I had to remove the head unit and connect the yellow video rca plug and the camera activation wire to the back of the head unit. Remember I have aftermarket Alpine head unit not the factory unit. Thanks for watching.

Where is windshield washer pump located and how to change?

  • @DIYWilly

    @DIYWilly

So the windshield washer tank is located inside the passenger side fender next to the coolant bottle. You would need to remove the plastic inner fender to gain access. I believe the pump is there as well. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!!

Where do you buy the radio and how many inches because I have a Nissan Frontier 2010 I’m looking to buy a radi like your but I don’t know how

  • @DIYWilly

The radio is an Alpine ILX-W650 7”. You can buy it on Amazon or Crutchfield. You will also need install kit like a METRA 99-7428B which is available in gray or black. There is also a harness adapter like METRA 70-7552 or Crux Swrns-63u wiring interface if you need steering wheel controls. There is also an adapter for video playback while driving but don’t remember the part number. You should also look at replacing the speakers and they should be 6x9 in the front and 6.5 in the rear. I like to use JBL GTO Series speakers for amazing sound for the price. Shop around there are cheaper radios that work the same. The Alpine is what they call a mechless unit meaning it has no CD or DVD player but will play all types of media through usb. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.

@@DIYWilly Thanks for this comment! If you don't mind, I'm going to copy this setup. Before that, though, do these recommendations still hold? Or have you changed your opinion on the quality of any of these? ETA: I also have a 2012 Nissan Frontier!

  • @DIYWilly

Yes everything is still working just as new. No problems. The only problem we had was water leaking in from the third brake light and damaging the 10” sub under the rear seat. I highly recommend the GTO speakers for any installation. They are amazing speakers for the money. Remember you’ll need the parking brake bypass. www.ebay.com/itm/273934327687?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ar8OPCIdTka&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=7NqKU87xTaW&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=EMAIL. Good luck with the install. You will not be disappointed with the system. I install the above in both our 2008 and 20012 NISSAN Frontiers. Be careful though looks like some part numbers have changed.

@@DIYWilly Thanks for this! I'm thinking of installing the Alpine iLX-507, but I'm really liking the $300 savings if I go with the Alpine iLX-W650 (your unit). Apart from wireless CarPlay, I don't see a *major* difference between the two. And I like the fact that the W650 has been out for a bit (the updates probably resolved a lot of the software issues). With the 507, since it is a newer unit, it's probably going to have some issues. Hmm, things to think about...

I’ve installed 2 Alpines W650’s and they still work perfectly. The only complaint is that it doesn’t display radio data (song info). Other wise great head unit!
