Back Deck Framing Step-by-Step Start to Finish {Jon Boat to Bass Boat Conversion} Lowe 1448 Jon Boat

Спорт

After ALLOT of thought I figured out how I was going to overcome one of the trickiest parts of the entire jon boat to bass boat conversion. The transom on my Lowe 1448 jon boat is slanted but I need a 90 degree angle so that the rear casting deck is level. In this video you'll see how I created my own 90 degree angle which made the rea r deck level and create perfect hatches underneath. You'll also see mistakes I made in the process to help others avoid making the same mistakes. This part of the build is the only part I completed in one day. Awesome videos! Been watching them all and I don't even have a Jon boat yet. LOL. As an idea for the rear spacers at the transom, you could just make the brace the full length you need. To compensate for the angle of the transom, just cut the side of the aluminum at an angle. That way you don't have to bend the support piece. Hope that helps.

    @@BassBrothersFishingDMV It will be it's been thru many years of solid use and just recently took it off the water due to trailer rusting bad ujoints both leaf springs and axle and pretty much everything attached accept the galvanized trailer. So just getting started with the remodel will take prob 3 solid months and $10k if I put new motor on it (don't need to but might go 4 stroke) and about $5k if I don't. I also do all the work myself I've actually already done carpet covered wood deck/platforms a few times over the years in the boat but never did it 100% right with aluminum. Now that grandfather's passed away this time I'm spending the money n time to do it right. Putting in small center drive tower and pole platform and doing full deck and covering with nice sea mat or something similar. I have to go further with mine by taking out the benches and everything and reinstalling them where they'll fit but will be worth it. Already have plans drawn up. Mabee I'll send you some before and after pics since I don't upload to KZread. I'll keep watching/commenting u got new sub. I don't bass fish often since I live in Florida on the ocean but fishing is fishing and better than watching TV any day.

    Use cardboard, or manilla folders as a template to find your angles ! It's easier to cut, and modify cardboard than it is to modify aluminum !! When I was fabricating in the pipe shop I had a file drawer full of manilla folders, masking tape, scissors, and carpenter's pencils !! Make a layout, then trace, abd cut !! That boat is looking good !! p.s. Take a break every now and then to go fishing !! It'll clear your mind, and you might come up with a brainstorm of an idea !!✌👍👍😁🤜🤛👊👊

    Your video is very helpful. Thanks. I'm planning a similar deck over the rear of my Jon boat, which also has a slanted rear. I plan to separate my gas tank area with a vertical wall and provide plenty of ventilation. Separation and venting will reduce the accumulation of flammable vapors from the vent of the gas tank and possible spills when filling the tank. What are your thoughts about separating gas fumes from the battery, bilge pump, and associated wiring? Also, flammable Hydrogen vapors are slowly released from the battery. Any comments about venting the battery compartment will also be appreciated. Thanks again.

    Do you have a VIN Number on the rear of the boat on the outside (waterside) anywhere? I have a 92 Lowe 1436 and mine is located on the right at the top if looking at rear of boat. Just curious because boat makers supposedly put a second “hidden” VIN on all boats in case the boat is stolen and VIN removed. Helped a friend look for second vin plate and never could find anywhere. I believe you may have found the hiding spot for it under the weight restriction plate there.

  • @BassBrothersFishingDMV

    @BassBrothersFishingDMV

    3 жыл бұрын

    I would go with rivets as much as possible. Its cleaner, safer and takes up less space. With screws you will have sharp points sticking out everywhere. Rivets can be placed in places screws can't. Screws take up more space. This will matter in places where you would put maybe 4 rivets and you would only be able to fit one or two screws. The flip side is there are applications where screws are best. You just have to assess it and make the best choice. Hope this helps.

Then rivet the flange you just created instead of cutting all those little supports.

    That would make for a heavy ass boat though.

    If you had used self tapping screws instead of pop rivets you could had done it a lot faster and easier to take apart.

    Hahaha!!!! They'll work themselves lose. Then you'll have to replace them with a larger screw,then they'll work lose and you'll have to then replace those with an even larger screw..... Really want to do it right,you'd buck rivets all around (pop rivets will work lose too) or weld it with bucked rivets mounting it to the seat and transom....

    If you can cut your framing with shears, your decks are going to cave in
