Jon Boat Rod Locker Install Pt.1 Complete Step-By-Step Process {Jon Boat to Bass Boat Conversion}
Спорт
I'm very excited to bring this part of the series to you. My goal is to give you as much detail as possible for this part of the build. So this will be a three part series which show you a step-by-step process. Building the jon boat rod locker turned out to be a much bigger job than I anticipated. My goal was to build the locker WITHOUT cutting my bench out. I'm very happy I was able to successfully get it done an keep my bench intact. It was challenging but all turned out well.

For those coming for ideas. You could save time by making the one template for location. Dont cut hole in template. Just center punch each side a drill. Still looks good.
Nice work i think id have hit harbor freight and found a drill bit extension
Sweet build
Looking really good keep those updates coming.

You approach a project much like and even sound like Jeremy Fielding. You have similar creativity. Great job, being an electrician I think you could use drain waste vent pvc to reduce weight and would be strong enough.

Bro that was a great idea to put rod holes and save the integrity of your deck. Well done.. 👍

Thanks John. Trying to make it happen. It's working out pretty good. Thanks for watching. Part 2 coming soon.
When I do mine I going to use a Pvc pipe the same size as the hole and cut some grooves in one end of it just make a bigger drill bit
We used a Milwaukee extension with the hole saw and ran it all the way through the bench 👍

Ah man that would have worked out much easier if I had that. Good to know though.
I am making my own boat build project, from Maryland!! But I was thinking myself that I don’t wanna tear out my bench I just wanna punch holes. So glad I found your video so now I know someone else has had success doing it

I understand completely. I faced the same frustration watching some of the other videos out there on KZread.
The center to center measurement hole to hole would be helpful. I'm guessing 3 1/2" or so.
Tip for getting through the foam is to take a piece of the conduit and cut teeth on the end and push it through.

Yea I did that too. Worked like a charm. Great suggestion

Supp BMB. I plan to do that as well. I've invested in my camera gear and definitely have developed a few techniques worth sharing. I'll definitely get that vid done after this boat is done lol. Thanks for watching bro. Be safe out there!!!
So hiw much wt did aluminum framing save u instead of using wood?
Do you remember how wide you made the template like from side to side .
use a wood working spade bit with guide to cut out foam

Were you able to find 2" tubes? I could only find slightly smaller tubes at home depot. I'm wondering if there are some tubes closer to the 2" mark somewhere else maybe

The only two places I've tried was Home Depot and Lowes. You could try a plumbing supply store. They tend to have all sizes.
So i just looked up accessories for my cell phone and found that you can have tripods microphones I have the new Galaxy Note my question is that ok for a beginner and I have the headgear for my GoPro. Thanks for your time

Absolutely man. Cell phones shoot in HD. I've seen people shoot great content with their cell phone and you'd never know the difference. Go for it!!!!
How did you determine the spacing of the holes so that the reels don't interfere with each other or the rods especially spinning reels
@BassBrothersFishingDMV
2 жыл бұрын
I went off of how much space I allotted for the rod locker. Then worked out the spacing for the rods and reels based on that. In the end the spacing between the hole cut outs were around 2 inches apart. I will say give yourself as much room on the back for your reels as you can. My reels fit but it's very tight.
Won’t the reels collide in the rod locker?
GoPro head mount gives me motion sickness.
Seeing as you had heaps more pvc pipe why not use a long piece sharpen one end of the pvc pipe at the other end drill a hole in it . Use your screwdriver and using the pvc pipe screw it thu the foam ... to get the foam out of the pvc pipe drill holes in it just like the drill that you used to drill the holes
@BassBrothersFishingDMV
3 жыл бұрын
Not a bad idea. I did use the PVC to clear out the holes after I dug it out with the drill but but maybe doing what you said would have made it even easier.
Should have used a paddle bit

Yea I would get one for next time. Just used what I had laying around the garage.
How much is the total cost in materials?
@BassBrothersFishingDMV
3 жыл бұрын
That's the golden question Joseph :). I plan to put the numbers together and do an aftermath vid. Stay tuned.
any reason you just didnt use PVC pipe?
@BassBrothersFishingDMV
3 жыл бұрын
Regular pvc pipe is heavier I think and flares out easier when heated.
Never mentioned the budget how much money $$ are you spending on this ..?
@BassBrothersFishingDMV
3 жыл бұрын
I plan to put out a vid on this topic. but preliminarily I spent around $1,500 on materials. Look out for a full comprehensive video coming soon.
My friends make fun of me because im heavily invested in fishing and only caught one small large mouth this year.

Don't feel bad bro. I've only caught 2 LMB this year. The season is a little off with the weather up and down and COVID restrictions. Keep fishing bro. They'll come!!!!
You are killing me with the lack of power tools. From the look of your place you can afford to drop some coin for miter saw.
