Welcome to my all aluminum jon boat framing walk thru. I intended on doing a step by step framing video but given the time it takes to film and that this is a customer boat, I couldn't dedicate the time to do it. So here is the next best thing, a full walk thru of the finished all aluminum framing package!
In this video I will give you an in depth walk thru of this 1436 and the all aluminum framing within it. It underwent major alteration as I modified the original benches and fully enclosed the front and back areas of the boat to accommodate decking and storage compartments. It turned out really nice!
I'll show you the materials I used, the tools needed to complete this all aluminum framing job, and give you some tips and tricks along the way. Hopefully this video can give you some useful information or ideas that you can implement into your very own build!
Talking to you on camera helps me not talk to the voices inside my head. Thanks for watching, hope this helps someone with their project!

    I’m an aircraft mechanic in Copperhill TN. With the exception of me having upgraded tools, you have done an outstanding job with this boat and the video. I have a 14/36 Lowe I’m about to do and I’m basking it on your work here. Great job brother! Will see you on the water!👍

    Personally, I never really need or want a highly detailed "how-to" video. I find it more useful to know what obstacles were encountered and the craftsman's solution and logic process. Beyond that, just seeing the final product is sufficient because even though everyone's end result is going to be similar, it will never be exactly the same. Well done today!

    Beautiful job! I'm about to start my own. Couple questions - Was your 1/16" angle aluminum 1.5"x1.5"? Did you feel you could have gone with 2"x2" or that would have been overkill? Also, on the uprights, you mention 1/8". Are they 1"x1" tube at 1/8" thick walls? Thanks.

    I've seen boats with 1,000 pds of batteries and no foam with no issues. The foam only matters if you take on water. That's why I make sure to have a solid bilge pump and wiring job. From what I've seen, I can do whatever I want to the inside of these the way I do without isdues.

    Anthony, The framing is great, I'm considering doing something very similar, but I would like to have a rod locker. Do you think it would be possible to cut into the walls of the middle bench seat without compromising strength?

  • @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats

    @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats

    Totally possible. It gets tight in these small boats like this 1436 but it can be done and the bigger the boat the easier it gets to design and layout.

    So for this 14 footer which aluminum kit did you get? I.e. was the 14-16' kit enough aluminum? I'm gonna do the same on my 14x48 with aluminum frame and ply deck and was wondering if there'd be enough aluminum in the kit to do everything.

  • @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats

    @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats

    3 жыл бұрын

    I don't buy kits. I buy in bulk, 50 sticks of aluminum at a time minimum. The aluminum I buy is the same they sell on tbnation, I just get bulk opportunity. I'm not familiar with their kits or what is included so I couldn't speak on that unfortunately.

    Do you then rivet or screw the deck to the aluminum?

  • @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats

    @AnthonyJonesBrigadeBoats

    3 жыл бұрын

    If its aluminum decking, use tge same countersink rivets I showed in video to attach decking. If it is wood decking, I use #6 1.5" inch Stainless self tapping screws. Paint grey first, then go straight through the carpet and plywood and hit framing. Be aware of your wire locations. If using tge impact it should barely bury the screw heads in the wood, sealing it, and the screw will hide in the carpet especially will paint on the head. Professional grade.

    That back end seems a bit heavy with 3 batteries and a live well. Then you add a motor and fuel, might be too much. I think it will sit way too low in the water.
