@@laozdruni6856 Oh, he was. Met him twice (once at a local SF club meeting, we had taken him to dinner beforehand) and again when he was the media guest at a convention I used to work on. Soft-spoken, friendly, down-to-earth guy. At dinner he was talking about spending the day with his ex-girlfriend's son (no, not his kid, from her prior marriage), sort of like a big brother.

I always thought this scene in particular played off Michael O'Hare's unique character. Some folks say he wasn't an exciting actor; so he played off that and had Ivanova fall asleep. Perfect! Rest in in power, Michael,!

A memory of a quieter time when Babylon 5 was just there. It wasn't the lynchpin in a galactic war between ancient beings, Earth, or a place holder for the Alliance. It was just a place that people lived and worked, where the commanding officers were average men and women who got up in the morning, at breakfast and joked around. Later on, things would get heavier. But for now, things were lighter and somewhat happier.

  • @robertbusek30

But even when things “got heavier” in later seasons, there was still humor. Babylon 5 was a well-balanced show that way.

My history teacher stood at the door of the classroom promising an F for the day for any student who woke up the freshman who was sound asleep at his desk. In the middle of class, the young man slowly woke up, looked to either side and didn't recognize any of the students in the class. Then it hit him that he was in the wrong class! He tried to get up and sneak out of the class, but by that time, we were all laughing our heads off. Good times!

Except TOS. The characters had their light moments where they did let their hair down, so to speak. But in TNG they were very stiff. I got tired of LaForge real quick. He was more boring than a Vulcan. Even they knew how to have a certain amount of fun. Fortunately the fun was rediscovered in DS9. I think one of my most favorite episodes in that series was where Sisko and Son built and flew the solar sailer. They felt most relatable then, and it really felt like a father and son trip for the weekend.

Micheal O'Hare and Jerry Doyle -- Especially Doyle -- were masters of the facial expression. It's really evident in the elevator opener from 1x18, but even here, you can truly see Garabaldi thinking "I'm gonna die. Worth it."

This reminds me of the time I was giving my dad a massage. He was sitting in his chair and had his soup in front of him. He relaxed further, and further. Leaning forward more and more. His face was so close that I couldn't help it. I gave him a little extra push and put his face into his soup. lols.

This was one of my all-time favourite episodes for a lot of reasons, starting with this prank, then the music cutting in after Ivanova shouting, and timing of the discovery of the missing Babylon station, and of course the real start of the Galen arc. best sci-fi series ever....

This shows what made Micheal O'hare great and why he was a perfect choice got Valen. He had the mellifluous stage voice. It gave him a presence that was perfect for the part of a religious leader, know who he was going to be has to be why they cast O'Hare in the first place. And here, he weaponized it. Honestly, splitting the main character into 2 was one of the best choices they made. Neither O'Hare or Boxleitner could have nailed a combined Sinclair/Sheridan character. But as I said, O'Hare was perfect as Sinclair and Boxleinter was perfect as the much more fiery Sheridan.
