JMS: "I hate cute. Everybody knows me, knows that. So after buying Peter David's script #2, Peter sends me a gift. A bear. A teddy bear. With my initials JS in front, and Bear-ba-lon 5 in the back. I call Peter back. I say that I must now get him for this. He asks what I had in mind. I said wait and see. So I wrote the entire bear thing at the end of the show, and inserted it into his script. Never send me something cute."

It's possible the finished CGI was reverted back to it's wireframe model. Both could then be rendered as the finished item and wireframe so that the timings matched and would correspond to what was seen on screen. Damn good use of CGI to create an effect. They only had to build it once, then revert to the line model for the tactical display. One shot, two renders.

A reasonable hypothesis. It is the sort of thing she's known to do. She never liked the idea of the shop aboard & needed a way to get Sheridan to order the eviction. I have a question of my own: was the bear really part of the shop, or did Ivanova have it made just to arrange the shop's eviction? Sheridan had never seen the bear before. There's no other mention of the bear. We've no way to prove it was ever from the shop; we've only Ivanova's word.
@andrewmalinowski6673

@@r.c.auclair2042 Technically since in the scene neither of them state it came from the shop you're led to believe based on the shop's existence that that's where the bear came from, all we (the audience) have is that he seems pleased before asking about the initials; "This is supposed to be me?" and then orders the entire shop closed down. The idea it was never from the shop itself is reasonable, since it was never seen although most of the shop is never seen

The legend behind this famous scene goes like this: The wife of the guy who wrote this episode, Peter David, gave a teddy bear from the Vermont Teddy Bear Company to Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straycznski as a gift for allowing her husband to write an episode of B5. Straycznski has said that he hates cute things so he wrote this scene in the last minute. David got his revenge when he included a scene in which a teddy bear was floating in space during a episode of David's TV series Space Cases.

It briefly becomes a war trophy of Darth Maul..... To be continued ?????

A bit more background about this scene... The actual bear was a creation of the wife of Peter David, the writer for this particular episode. Apparently, when presented with the bear, Joe deliberately had this scene inserted to show his opinion of the gift. Reportedly, Peter's wife was distraught and, in retribution, Peter used the bear discovery in his other TV job, "Space Cases", his work with Babylon 5 co-star Bill (Lennier) Mumy. Thus... the reference to the evil "Straczyn".

@DarkShinji250 I was making that up as alternate universe story idea. It never actually took place.
That was absolutely CRAZY FUNNY !!! The bear is encountered in an alternate universe by the USS Voyager, then by the re imagined Battlestar Galactica on its way to Earth. What a story idea !!
@williamskidfears You are SO SO RIGHT! I'm thinking she had that bear custom made just to show it to Sheridan knowing when he'd see it he'd blow his top and help her get what she wants.
That would make 1 helluva story ! The gang from " Sliders " encounter it as a tribal totem on an alternate Earth, then someone throws it through a Stargate powered by a ZPM, it finds its way to the Pegasus Galaxy, after which it gets caught by the " Heart of Gold " when it uses its Infinite Improbability Drive near Magrathea !!
@danielinraleigh Vorlons may be? Or Shadows...
I mean 20th.... by the time we get to the 50th I pretty much want us to have a working Starfury up there. :)
My only question - Where can I get a Babearlon 5 teddy bear? Ebay? Wal-Mart? Can anyone help?
@mitrooper actually, i was referencing that infamous event where a british woman teaching in a middle eastern country was thrown in jail because the class had a teddy-bear and they voted to call it Muhammad, she was called Racist and spent about a month in jail
Why do the doors have such a goofy shape ???
@ccolimon Same reason all the paper in BSG is missing the corners. IT'S THE FUTURE! But yeah, I don't really know either.
radar mash clue ha ha my teddy bear went off
JMS hates cute and cuddly, thats why Sheridan throws it out.
omg where can i finf that one?
What did he do?
Did you get the idea from Mr Burn's Bobo? :)
I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! Space the teddy bears! HA!HA!
Probably shouldn't have told him that the bear was supposed to be him Commander.
Did the bear also appear in the new Battlestar: Galactica?
Or John BEARidan?
wont that bear be a navigational hazard?
John Sheridan is about to find this - somewhat unbearable!
Won't that bear be a hazard for navigation?
@Hauntedman1 : awesome :P
@Martintheauthor Lmao!
The future of Build a bear
@gasdfw5 It's never really a good idea for dramatic works to be afraid to have comedic moments. Compare The Last Airbender with the cartoon it was based on. Or look at Shakespeare's tragedies. Even The Wire had its share of humor.
i think this video belongs to my name ^^
ivanova is such a good manipulator, ain't she???
sensors that sensitive and still they had to send someone out? Meh , it made for a funny scene
Just found it - unbearable!!! :-)
