This was one of my absolute *favorite* Ivanova moments in the entire series! As a kid, I even got my hands on a t-shirt that had the quote "Ivanova is God. Ivanova is always right." on it. I've long since outgrown that t-shirt, and it's faded and worn out, but I still have it. One of my childhood treasures.

Ivonova: "Just kidding about that 'God' part. No offense." GOD: "It's fine, honey. I know what you meant."

A-Ivonova is God, so that's not a fair comparison. B-the biggest problem with Janeway is that the writers couldn't agree what her character was supposed to be and made a mess of things going back and forth with her characterization preventing her from actually developing properly into any kind of a fully-realized character.

@@Randyandmellie My favorite episode with Kira is when she thought she had a Cardassian war criminal and it turned out to be an imposter that stole his identity so that he could receive the punishment a war criminal of that notoriety would normally get out of guilt and penance. The guy hated himself for the small part he played in the Bajor occupation that he sobbed to Kira describing the shrieks of Bajoran children being slaughtered. She went from hating the guy to feeling sympathy for him and trying to comfort him. Turned out he didn't actually do anything directly during the occupation because he was just a filing clerk.

I love the character of Ivanova. She was a high point for me. They actually wrote a female character that had depth, intelligent, beautiful, strong, fragile and kick ass. A true leader and a once in a life time character to play. They should have kept her for season 5. I doubt that it was truly an unreasonable request.

From everything I've heard about it, Claudia Christian took some bad advice from her agent and ended up not being in the show even though JMS wanted her in. Nothing more than a contract negotiation that went wrong. By the time that the issues were solved it was too late.

Season 4 was meant to be the finale, hence the rewrites so it had the resolution of the Vorlon vs Shadow conflict AND the EarthGov Civil War. Claudia took up a contract for another show and was unable to come back, when B5 was renewed at the eleventh hour.

Lieutenant Corwin only became a recurring character because of his performance of the scene where he insists to ISN he has a good working environment and no, nobody at all bullies or intimidates him with Ivanova starring at him in the background.

One of the most hilarious speeches given on TV show. More hilarious because it is serious and Ivanova was dead serious about ripping lungs out part.

She is a Jew. A Russian Jew to be specific. In the episode TKO, she sits Shiva for her father, which is Jewish tradition for mourning the death of a loved one.

Weirdly, being Russian might not make her Ashkenazi. Before coming to America my family was Russian, but we lack all Ashkenazi genetic markers and also look super Arab. Also our family's marriage contracts lack the Rabbi Gershom clause meaning there may or may not have been polygamy relatively recently in my family history. So basically my family was Russian before coming to America but instead of being Ashkenazi, they're Mizrahi, meaning that before wherever they lived got glomped by Russia, it was Ottoman. That probably means that they'd been Russian less than a hundred years before they left for America. I don't know exactly where they were from but it's probably somewhere between modern Armenia and Iraq.

Many Sephardi from Spain wound up in the Ottoman Empire after being expelled in 1492. IIRC England expelled its Jewish population at some point as well and it wouldn't shock me if some of them eventually made their way to Istanbul as well.

Yeah that part is underrated gold rightly overshadowed by Ivanova's epic dressing down of those idiots. The delivery is perfect, he is clearly thinking "of course the %^$@ not!" but simply says "NO" and walks off. He didn't tolerate Londo's bullshit for a microsecond, and Londo surely ended up respecting him more for it. The subtlety to it is that they both knew it was bullshit, mere fishing on Londo's part just in case the commander would be dumb, weak, or off his game at the moment enough to give in. He'd probably have been surprised if it actually worked, but he had to give it a try anyhow. It's just part of how the game of politics is played.

1st rule of Ivanova...... Never get Ivanova angry

The woman who ran the programming for Fox was a racist who later admitted that she deliberately destroyed firefly because of the biracial marriage. She didn’t have the power to directly cancel the show but mixed up the order of the episodes in order to destroy its following. A single malicious person in a place of power can do a tremendous amount of damage to just about anyone. The other executives at Fox weren’t interested in doing their own jobs and checking to see that she was doing hers. She was eventually fired after destroying several shows for spurious reasons. By then, the damage was done.

Claudia Christian was absolutely spot-on in her portrayal of Susan Ivanova. She would have made a great Honor Harrington too. That she was easy to look at was just an added bonus.

It's unfortunate, isn't it? As I recall, whereas they thought ahead by shooting the show in 16:9 aspect, to render the CGI at higher resolutions for HD/4K purposes would have taken more time than they had. I don't know to what extent a re-render would be possible today.

No remastered CGI! Given the fact that this show struggled to stay on air the entire time it was on air while using primitive, in hindsight, computers to render their visual effects makes B5 even more impressive. New CGI would make it look average...

Obviously superior technology to Star Trek! Not only do they have prober seats and seatbelts (!), their consoles also arent made of explodium!

I think she was struggling with alcoholism at the time. She's made a comeback though. She does a lot of voice acting now. Her voice is absolutely unmistakable.

Actually what happened was that JMS screwed up, he had let her know how much she was needed in the last season, which allowed her to take some bad advice from her agent, which was that she skipped out on signing the contract during the deadline, and thought that the fan backlash would have been enough to make them go with her contract demands. She was told no, and one of the actors had stated that if they did bring her back on those terms, that he, and a few others would have walked out. My suspicion is that they would have brought back Ivanova, only to lose Sheridan, Delenn, and Garibaldi.

I don't care what excuses JMS comes up with. He and WB screwed the pooch, had they just given whatever she wanted (which according to her wasn't more money) we wouldn't have gotten a shitty Season 5. He would have had to write a totally unbelievable short story about how Marcus is revived, then clones her, then takes her to some Maui looking planet. They fucked up Period.

I still laugh at the mantra .... she was an amazing character, proof a woman character doesn't have to written as a man to be a powerful woman.
