    She was perfect for that role - at a convention she said, the role also helped her during a hard time in her life. Seems like acting as a strong but sensitive character gave her the strength she needed.

    She brought so much to that character (like all B5 cast) that she is inseparable from Delenn. And B5 proved you can have strong female characters without any need to demean men. A strong storytelling and exceptional acting do it all.

    My favorite Babylon 5 moment is at the end of this episode. D’Lenn looks up at Ivanova and asks about the odd pains she has been feeling in her stomach and the look on Ivanova’s face as the transport’s doors close. Classic.

    Delenn’s hair is the biggest plot hole in the series. She’s got a bony ridge going around part of her skull but sometimes the hair seems like it has to be tucked under it like a headband but that can’t possibly be right unless the head bone only contacts her skull at the temples. Put it up there with Swedish meatballs on the list of universal mysteries that would drive one insane.

    Krister Andersson The show also doesn't portray humans as (generally) the dominant military power; nor the most 'perfect' race in terms of morals. It's refreshing. I liked Star Trek TNG - but it was an ode to human arrogance, a lot of the time (let's not even start on the original Star Trek series). In 200 or 400 years (assuming we aren't wiped out by a catastrophic event), humans will still be humans. The technology will naturally improve (probably). But there are absolutely no grounds at all (considering we can't even make it to Mars yet), to think we'll somehow be leaders of the galaxy, technologically (if we've even met any other aliens by then). We will still have brave people; various other positive character traits, etc. But we'll still have crimes; antisocial character traits and impulses, etc., too. We can only hope wars are reduced - but that is by no means guaranteed.

  • @Ruosteinenknight

    @Ruosteinenknight

    It kinda makes sense since Centauri men are expected to be representative of their houses prestige and power....which kinda tells that when Londo's hair crest was poorly maintained like a rake and wearing garish suit, that he just didn't really give a fuck that point. It's only after he started to gain influence and prestige that he started to pay attention to his looks. And their social norm about using alcohol is even more relaxed than humans. While they still consider outright drunkedness to be inaprioriate, they have far more normalized relationship with alcohol, up to a point that sobrierity is considered a vice.

And the look of peace she has on her face like Delenn is enjoying a spa treatment and Nalear asks" if having her hair tied up like that hurts" was so enjoyable. Wide tooth combs for gentle, slow, but less breakage, untangling of knots and snags , semi-wide gall tip brushes for getting the rest out. Fine tooth combs for additional smoothing; maybe some serum? Let the hair dry as naturally as possible, and then style as your bone allows. Done. Way to go, Ivanova.

    Shame you didn't include the pay off to this scene. We see a short while later in this episode Delenn's hair in curlers as Lennier comes in. The result is he is extremely confused by the whole concept of hair and hair care. It's little scenes like this one littered throughout Babylon 5 that makes it so great a show. We get to se the little moments, those ones that aren't important to the plot but help us to emphasise with the characters, to learn more about them as people. Their lives aren't ongoing disasters with every little bit adding the epic tragedy that is existence. We'll see two people sharing a drink, others a brief laugh and sometimes just an uncomfortable moment in a lift.

    VO5 from what I can remember of hairspray. Wasn't pleasant to the touch though, as it made hair stiff and conformable. It was the way how women of decades ago used to get their hair looking literally sculpted.

    One of the best parts of Babylon 5 was how it dealt with all kinds of issues, big and small. How many shows would think this scene (or the followup one where Delenn is drying her hair) is beneath them. "This is a big space opera with drama and intrigue. We can't be bothered with a character's hair!"

    I used to think that the Minbari crest is directly connected to the skull throughout its arc, but only recently have I figured out that the crest is basically a pair of conjoined antlers. Can't tell if there's an air gap between the scalp and the crest, but that seems to be the case with post-transformation Delenn. 20 years, and only now I get it. Hell, I should've figured that out in 2007, when I saw those goats in Twilight Princess: they have circular horns.
