Kids do dumb stuff, I did dumb stuff. I was helping my dad in the garage one day with the boat and I ended up slipping off the stool I was standing on and cut my leg on the tail light bracket. Hit an artery had to be rushed to the hospital for stitches. He was standing right beside me, that must have been his fault right? I get what you are saying but accidents happen in a split second. When I heard that ratio it seemed to me that there was ample supervision. But hearing the sitter’s explanation I’m wondering if she and/or the staff was paying attention as well as they should have. The sitter said they were doing crafts, and that the baby was grabbing at stuff on the table and then says her assistant saw the baby with the sticker. They knew the baby could pull themselves up on furniture, yet had the crafting stuff within their reach, even after they saw the baby grabbing at the stuff? And if the assistant saw the baby with the sticker what prevented them from taking it away before the baby put it in their mouth? The mom also said when she got there she removed a wood chip and some other plastic item from the baby’s mouth but couldn’t get the sticker. If there’s so much supervision how is so much stuff ending up in that kids mouth? I agree that not every incident/accident etc warrants a lawsuit, however if the reason the baby was able to put that sticker in her mouth was because of something the staff did, or didn’t do, then a lawsuit to at least recoup the cost of the medical bills isn’t unreasonable.

She also said that the assistant saw the baby grab the sticker, so why couldn’t they stop her from putting it in their mouth? I worked at a day care as a teacher/consular. During a day with the after school kids while waiting for the parents at the end of the day I had walked out of a class room where the kids where watching a movie. One of the kids got excited she was like 6 and according to another consular followed me to the door. I didn’t hear her but she was calling me and then another kid told them they needed to be quite and then closed the door. Well the girls hand was in the part where the hinges are. The top of her finger was chopped off completely. They rushed her into the office where the bosses where and I was. Well thankfully the mom was already almost there and she was a nurse. She didn’t freak out she knew it was an accident and I felt horrible for the girl and the other girl who chopped the finger off. Idk the if anything legal happened the girl came back a couple weeks later and everything on that part was fine.

Well I'm glad that it's at least there, my dad basically served two of his fingers, he's a garbage man, he got lucky because he was wearing his heavy duty gloves so it made it to where the skin was still attached. He has a little feeling in his fingers. But they do look a little weird lol.

I'm just gonna throw this out there... I would have let the day care lady remove the sticker.. if it was on the roof of his mouth that would have been an easy fix assuming he doesn't bite her fingers off in the process loll... But now your gonna take the baby to the hospital, risking the chance of it moving all around in the vehicle during transport. THINK LADY!!

Why is everyone calling a 10 month old a toddler. Child is still a baby and shouldn't have been near stickers. Also, if they were doing arts and crafts with the older kids and knew the younger ones wouldn't be attended to, they should have placed them in an enclosed area with their own activities.

In California, the ratio is 1 trained adult to 4 infants. An infant room should NEVER have a sheet of stickers accessible to infants. The childcare workers need to be closely monitoring and engaging with the infants. The childcare center should have been closed and a license revoked.

Babies and small children should be watched very very closely. I remember my great nephew who was a baby, he would try to pickup anything near his reach and try to put it in his mouth. Unless it's a bottle or teething ring, don't have anything near a baby that the baby could grab and put it in their mouth. I'm the arts&craft class, the babies should not be anywhere near the arts&craft materials. Any small and movable objects should not be near any babies or small children. The daycare worker was very very lucky this time that the baby didn't get seriously harmed.

I really don't think there was anything the daycare lady could do,the baby grabbed a sticker, put it in his mouth and they tried to get it out. They WERE watching him, stuff like that happens with little kids. They weren't neglectful,it was something they didn't have much control over. There are obvious circumstances when people neglect to watch babies and children, but this isn't one of them.

I love that she sits there and says yeah my children have had broken bones has done this blah blah blah blah blah in my care but then once a daycare worker or daycare owner makes a mistake then I wanna go and sue her. I’m being my son, I’ve literally sat in front of him and watched him and he’s grabbed stuff quickly and tried to put it in his mouth or did succeeded, I get the mom‘s frustration because I would be a little frustrated but then also in the back of my head I’d be like well you know shit happens accidents happen you know if it’s happening more than once then yes then sue or take your child out of the daycare, but she even said over all those years she’s been an excellent daycare provider I’ve worked in daycare for 12 years and sorry sometimes stuff happens and we do our best. Of course there’s daycare is out there that are shitty and that are just there for the money but the daycare I worked out were very professional and stuff still sometimes would happen and we’d be watching the kids And people have to realize when you’re watching seven or eight kids at a time and in some states one person can watch 7 to 8 kids people don’t realize how hard it is until they’ve actually worked in daycare I mean it’s not like she didn’t call 911 or anything it’s not like she just left the sticker and then gave him to his mom and was like OK bye you guys and then she gets home and finds itand she even had her and her staff and then another parent to a child where their child goes to that daycare helping her out if she was trying to hide it, she would be like no back away with that kids parent

Agreed. I suspect this mom is being hypocritical: acting as if she's the perfect parent when in reality there have probably been a few incidents which question her ability at parenting. Daycare owners and staff, for the most part, do their best but one cannot guarantee accidents won't happen. I took a child development course in high school...kids explore at all times, are extremely energetic, etc.

She said the daycare lady was holding him down to get the sticker out his mouth they have too do that Then she turns round and says she removed a twig and a rock from a mouth That's virtually impossible. And I don't believe it for a minute. She also said that the sticker was in the back of his throat if it was in the back of his throat he would be choking And I don't believe it for a minute. She also said that the sticker was in the back of his throat he would be choking. I think she is just trying to embellish and make things bigger than what they were because she wants more money.,they could have easily removed it right their and eliminate a hospital visit she was being dramatic or else she saw a oppertunity to sue so she did the hospital

I find this daycare lady either foolish or misinformed. I train teachers who handle ECDE which is the equivalent to daycare and one thing for sure children's activities goes hand in hand with their age. ECDE children or Montessori whatever your activities have to be devoid of anything that encompasses of small moving or separable parts. This prevents the possibility of accidental swallowing. I saw her put it in her mouth as I was changing her diaper and as i immediately went to get it out I watched it go right down her throat as i opened her mouth. It happened so fast. I am incredibly clean, organized, I only have one child so not too many distractions... I dont know how she got a penny but she did. Anyway I found it in her poop two days later. You can try as hard as you want to but life is life and THINGS HAPPEN and you learn from them.
