Fun theory! There is a small detail about that Natans and is that they decent from the Siah aimians, also Natans seem to have different belives than the rest of Roshar for example: in Dalinar's vision (the one where he fights the midnight essence the natan woman exclaims "Three gods!" This expression seems to indicate that she either worships all the gods of roshar including Odium wich is weird for someone living in the eight epoch or as Hoid's story indicates they worshiped the moons as Gods i don't know how this ends up being related to the Siah aimians but it most be somehow because they're the real creators of the Natans as we now them today. Also Natans seem to think Kalak is the stormfather (Puuli's interlude) and Natanatan was converted to vorinism recently by force in the hireocracy if i remember correctly and they're considered "pagans among pagans" by the Alethi maybe in that moment the syncretism began? Anyways sorry for leaving such a long comment great theory ❤

Ooh, I hadn’t heard the detail about Siah aimians! Though I wouldn’t consider worship of Honor and Cultivation during the shadow days to be equivalent to Vorinism, which only worships Honor. Natans may have kept the practices of humans since they abandoned Odium.

Yes, I know she's currently in the Spiritual Realm. But I imagine she was trapped in the physical/cognitive realm and then yeeted into that plain of existence where Connection is the only thing that matters. So If the radiants want to find her again, their going to need to find a place with a strong sense of connection to her. I think. Once the preview chapters are officially released by Tor, I'll do a vid pulling it all together. For now, I want to cater to those who haven't read that far yet. So, enjoy the ominous musings of Doc Brown, and my conspicuous repetition of the word "connection" in the later part.

Or maybe, mayyybe ba ado mishram is MOSTLY trapped in the spiritual realm

  • @fhengal

I find myself wondering if Ba Ado Mishram might be A) somewhere in the vault of Lasting Integrity or B) somewhere in Shinovar. You know... Shinovar... that one story-central place we haven't really explored, except in a very limited sense through Szeth's flashbacks? But I can't remember. Shinovar might be wrong if BAM's is supposed to be in the Cognitive or Spiritual Realm, and I think I dimly remember that it's at someplace like that.

Actually, the part about hebrew words is imprecise: what is written here is "latet ve-ha'adon lakcht racho misham" which isn't a real phrase in hebrew. The original phrase from the bible is actually two phrases: "arom yazati me'beten imi, ve'arom ashuv shama" which means: naked I came from my mothers belly, and naked I shall return there" The word "shama" is very similar to "misham" in meaning and translation. The second phrase is: "Yahweh natan, ve'Yahweh laqach" which means: god has given and god has taken away.

You are totally right it's imprecise. It's bad Hebrew grammar and bad as a Bible translation. So I put the disclaimer at the top of the screen "for fangirl purposes only". It seems that Sando takes liberties with Spanish while making the Herdazian culture, so a few liberties with Hebrew e.g. using adonai instead of the name of God, and adding a preposition "from there" which in Hebrew transliteration is perfectly symmetrical, seemed to be reasonable liberties when creating a fantasy world. Since you're offering, do you see any Hebrew references in Urithiru? Or could you point me towards sources discussing the Tower of Babel? Lastly, I'm reading that "Belteshazzar" from the book of Daniel is a Hebrew form of the Babylonian "Balat-su-usur." Seeing Shallan's brother's name intrigues my fangirl-sense. Is that a fair translation? Thank you!

Using Adonai (meaning: my lord) instead of Yaweh is actually very common as a way to not say God' name in vain, so he actually nailed it. Every tall fantasy tower reminds me of Babel, so I can relate. But the main point in the original story (Genesis 11) is about hubris against god- building a tower so as to be higher than the god themselves, and I didn't find enough clues that this kind of thing happened in Roshar. The scattering that followed does remind me of the Recreance. I think that your translation regarding Balat is fair, though the original doesn't have "t" in it and is Babylonian in origin. Hope that helps
