Both DDR4&5 versions of this board come with silver heat sinks, the non wifi versions are the ones that have black heat sinks.

This board looks amazing. I love the matx form factor, you get more space and have a more compact system without giving up too much on hardware compability.

Nice! Last M-ATX case I liked was the CoolerMaster MB311L and haven’t found another one since. Can’t wait for the build!

On the Mortar boards, the black heatsinks are for non-WiFi, silver for the WiFi versions. Same case for the B660 boards of either DDR4 or DDR5 versions where their WiFi versions have the silver heatsinks.

While the O11 (Air) Mini can be used for ATX and ITX too, I believe those cases are truly ideal for mATX allowing the use of radiators on all sides. Also most people don't use all those extra PCIE slots anyway.

Thanks for the video! Picked the board up and the Intel I3 12100f for a HTPC build. Probably could have went with a cheaper board however I have a B450 Mortar Max that is quality so I expect the same with this.

Don't buy it because you will regret like me... because Intel is locked the voltage.. so you can't reach reach 3600mhz your pc ram only can reach 3000Mhz..

Hi I just got a system with this board, i noticed that only 1 out of 2 cpu power connected is connected, will it affect anything? The power supply that came with my system (Silverstone ST65F) does not have enough power connecters apparently, thanks and great video.

Question, could you unlock all core 4.9 and remove power limits on the 12600k+b660? I am not talking about overclock, i know b660 doesn't allow cpu oc, my question is regarding removing powerlimits inside bios? Thank you

Good to see another mATX mobo for Alder Lake. Still on the fence deciding on B660 or Z690 (and obviously ADL K or not). At this time I'm thinking the i7-12700F will cover the bases with a mobo like this one. This would be my first non-OC build in decades.

I just got this motherboard on the gaming PC I just finished building. I have the i5-12600k, RTX 2080, and 32gb DDR4. I LOVE this motherboard. Its great. I play Star Citizen and only Star Citizen. I had the Asus Prime H610M-E for a couple days while I waited for the MSI B660M to get delivered. Obviously the B660M is gonna perform better than the H610M-E I had installed, but it plays Star Citizen SIGNIFICANTLY better. Im glad I got this MOBO

Did this Motherboard come 12th gen ready out of the box? Also, have you updated bios after setting up the PC to the latest? (If so) Did you have to update to bios after bios? or did you go just to the latest/newest BIOS available directly?

@@ZealousPumpkinTV the motherboard did come 12th gen ready because it only worked with 12th gen at the time. I did update the BIOS. I updated to the newest version about 2 months ago because that was the version I needed to disable E cores. I’m sure there’s a new BIOS version now though since 13th gen has been released and fits

@@AustnTok I See, since you are disabling e-cores I assume you are using Windows 10 correct? I heard W10 is not optimized to use e-cores and some people had issues, I personally know a friend on an i9-12900K using w10 and he said he didn't have issues, I might just try installing Windows 10 first and if I see problems with the e-cores I might consider updating to windows 11 depending how it goes, I could also update bios > Disable e-cores like you did if it means it will run better because I plan to stream and game on this PC

@@ZealousPumpkinTV no. I’m using windows 11. But I play star citizen and since it’s not an optimized game yet (it’s in alpha) the game tries to run on E cores only. So the game stutters really bad

200 GBP in the UK, stock available as well. That's about 80 GBP more than the B560M MORTAR WIFI which looks to be the equivalent board for socket 1200. True, you do get 2 Gen 4 M2 slots on the 660 compared to only one on the 560 and the 660 also has argb and front USBc support but otherwise they are very similarly featured boards. Fingers crossed that 200GBP isn't the new 'budget' price baseline and that MSI either reduce the price over time or bring out another board closer to the 560 price. PS nice feature, looking forward to the build

$190 USD seems to be the "budget" price point whereas it was supposed to be only $130-150 Gotta love when companies pull that lol. We should remember though, B and H series boards usually take about 2-3 months to fully roll out and be available to the public. Thus why we also only have like 5 total motherboards that arent z690 yet.

I am getting my B660 Motar DDR4 tomorrow, got it for $189.00USD which I thought wasn't bad. Keep in mind it is the ATX board. Also my board was pictured as being black not silver so not sure about the color scheme between DDR4 and 5.

Wifi version comes with silver heatsinks irrespective of ddr4/5. Non-wifi comes with all-black heatsinks.

I have the B550 version of this board, it is excellent. Perfect to pair with a i5 12600/k/f

DDR4 is good, but new GPU is on the way, PCIe Gen 5 instead of Gen 4 would makes this one perfect.

Ahh, I tried to get drivers when I built my computer from the internet, but there was no driver on my motherboard for ethernet and I could not connect to the internet, so I had to use that round circular thing so I could put the drivers onto my computer for ethernet so I could get the latest drivers from the internet. I am sure I could have done something else, but using that round circular thing was really easy. For the guys that complain about the PS2 port. A lot of security conscious government agencies, like the CIA and NSA fill in the USB ports with Superglue so someone cannot bring in a thumb drive with a virus on it and infect their whole system, or bring in a empty thumb drive and take out a lot of state secrets. Without PS2 there is no way to connect a keyboard. I'll bet the Iranian Nuclear Agency fills in all of their USB ports with Superglue now. That is how the virus that set back their nuclear weapons program years was introduced, via USB port on a thumb drive.

whoever designed and approved the MSI logo and peripherals seems to be teens stuck in the year 2005. hell, even on the late 2000s when i was still in the college, there was some kid that put some dragon sticker on his car and he became famous, in stupid way.

@@GearSeekers I have cd's that are from the 1990s (some store bought software and some burned ) that still function like the day they were made, The only failures I have had on cd/dvd media is due miss handling of them causing scratches. I have had a lot of thumb drives fail over the last 10 years for no reason at all, just one day they become unreadable. The key to discs is to store them out of the sunlight in a controlled temp.
