B´Twin Triban 100 Review: How good is a 259€ bike?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I am taking a close look at the cheapest roadbike I could find. In general I´m quite impressed with the package you get with this bike. Just the service by Decathlon(the place I bought this bike at) is not good at all..
I´ve already uploaded this video to my german channel. Since then I got some requests to make english videos, so here you go. Please excuse my english, i am not a native speaker and I hope my pronaounciation and my grammar doesn´t keep you from enjoing this video ^^. In any case, it´s astonishing what you can get for 260€ these days..
If you liked this Video, be sure to leave a like and subscribe to this channel. Any support helps a lot. New videos will follow :)

Best bike ever, it has easy maintenance brakes, instead of the discs i have on my mtb that make noise for a month after go through mud. It has a simple 7 gearing instead of 500 gears when you only use 4 gears 95% of the time anyways. One front blade saves some weight and less problems. No clips pedals cause these only give you 10% extra power during sprints, and break your leg when you fall. Everything about this bike is perfect. If it was 1000 euro's i would still have preferred it over other bikes, cause of the above. Don't be upset too much about the steel forks, alu forks are 100 grams lighter, who cares. This one gives comfort. The bike is still lighter and faster than my expensive mtb. It is a sleeper bike, everybody thinks you are slow until you overtake them. Gearing is perfect in newest version, 1 and 2 for hills, 3 for traffic lights, 4 5 6 cruising and 7 on a descent you can pedal until approx 60km/u. I like the retro style gearing. Gives the bike some charm and you can shift from 7 to 1 in a second, try that with shifters!

Jack, I totally agree with you about everything you mentioned above. I have been using one for the last 6 years and never ever had to take it to the service centre. Not even a tyre change. And to add to yours, the hybrid tyres makes it perfect for asphalt as well as gravel. Also this is a best bike for beginners who need light weight, fast, hassle free, low tech, practical gears, cheap but well built, road/commuter bike. You will love the speed and ease. I use mine to commute to office with my backpack on my shoulder(works as you body is not parallel to the ground due to the high head tube), to my badminton sessions with my badminton bag, and also for city commute.

Hi Bastler DIY....Nice to see this video. I had also seen your German video where you shared information about the upgraded version of Triban 100. I am using this cycle since 2018 and am a happy owner. Now I am looking to upgrade it, especially the complete gear unit. I replaced the tyres with Schwalbe Marathon Plus .The default tyres were fine but on a few occasions, it got punctured and hence I decided to change them. If you have any information and share with me where in Hamburg can I get such modifcations done would be really helpful. Also any suggestions regarding the upgrading are most welcome.

I don't understand your critics about the shifter. I hold the bar from the top so I don't have to leave any hand to shift gear, it's no problem. I had it for a year now, commuting almost everyday, and a few outings on sundays. 4000km in a year using it; I did not make any change , just added a front and rear light, also from Decathlon, around 10€ for both. I bought this bike for 259€, tomorrow I can sell it for 200€ if I wanted... All very cheap, can't complain.

Sorry , my english isn´t that good. Basically everytime i said sprocket in the video i meant freewheel. These tend to be cheaper then more modern cassettes so you see them on many cheap bikes, like the old version of the Triban 100. Cassettes on the other hand generaly make it easier to find replacements and give you a lot more options for upgrades.

My question is- in the 2+ years that you have owned the bicycle has the bicycle rims every gone out of true or have the spokes on the wheels ever broken for you? Is this bike suitable for daily commute even if the roads in one's area are not very good and have cracks and potholes? Thank you in advance sir. Awaiting your quick reply.

Once I had a little crash, where the front wheel got stuck in a tram track. The front rim got slightly out of true, but i guess that`s to be expected. I had to bring it to my local bike shop and they repaired in one afternoon. Other than that the rims held up just fine. For commuting the bike is fine, it´s actually quite a bit faster than my mtb, just don´t expect a super-comfortable ride :)

Actually having used 'brifters' for years, surprisingly I have come to appreciate this shifter quite a lot - it is actually possible to move through the gears much faster than with 'brifters'. People complaining about having to take their hands off the bars should remember that it is not that long ago that we were using down tube shifters with no problem. As an experienced cyclist I find the BTwin Triban 100 much better than I had expected.
