Triban 100 Upgrade: Is converting a 260€ bike to a "true" roadbike worth it?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video I am giving you a short update on my Triban 100. In the past year I`ve tweaked it to my personal preference and also spent quite a lot of money on doing so. But in the end i find my pimped up Triban to be worth its money.
I hope you liked this video. If you did, consider subscribing for more content like this ^^.
I'm sorry that I can't put a parts list in the description. Most of the parts used in this video are niche products, so its hard to find them online.

Was waiting for when you would say "I changed the frame and got a new one for *Euros*", but luckily you didn't :P
I bought Triban 100 2020 2 months ago (It's not B'win anymore). Switched from some old MTB bike and I couldn't be happier.
i cant beleive how underrated this channel is! i only watched 2 videos and it helped me a lot Edit: There was only 2 videos LMAO
When you replace everything, it's a pretty decent bike :)
A fantastic project for someone who wants to learn about bikes I would say. Next up I would change to a dual front chainset to give even more flexibility.
Amazing what you can do with a budget bike if you change everything on it.
I have bought this bike 2 weeks ago and I am pretty happy with it , but I like projects like yours , I am thinking since a while about buying a Columbus frame and start from the very beginning to build my city bike for Berlin too . I am looking forward to find ideas and tutorials which can help me , thank you for your video !
Thank you for your honesty. A very useful video for me 🙏
Personally I upgraded with clipless mountain bike pedals for easy use on gravel and urban rides and I plan to buy secondly some new tyres (likely Continental GP 5000 28 or 25) and the Sensah Pro group set 2x12 if it fits (at 300 euro without brakes) cause are the best part to transfer to a new frame eventually. Good video, thank you for sharing!
Nice customization. I like the break-swap the most. And not that you mentioned that the new ones are much better, i am also considering it. I also love the RC100 as a base to build something for your own needs... my one got a cheap 36 spoke back wheel 38T crank a 12-42 8speed Microshift Accolyte casette and deraileour, with a heavily bodged shifter installation :S, for a wide range ghetto gravel drive train :) I kept the steel fork, but installed front and rear racks and use it as a touring bike.
Mavic Aksium's have been my go to wheel set for years for my daily driver. They have never let me down.👍
Great video. I think you made some good upgrades. There's not really anything wrong with the frame, so upgrading one part at a time is a good idea as you can keep riding it the whole time. Well done!

@@cherepaha3 Sure, a replaceable hanger would be nice. But it's also priced accordingly. Every nice feature that gets added to a bike also increases the price.
Great video!
What reach did you use for the Campagnolo Potenza brakes? What would you say is the minimum reach required by this bike?
Hi, I have a Triban RC 100 as well and, I'm thinking of upgrading. What size is the fork? So far, I've replaced the shifter and brakes with a Shimano Tourney A070 Brake shifters. What a world of difference! It already made the bike ride so much better! It feels lighter too.
Where did you buy the new group set? Can u add a link please
Great Video!
Thank you for making this video, but where did you buy the parts? especially the camponello potenza brakes? Also, maybe you can help me out with this question, I am a guy and I want to buy the Triban Easy - the girl bike, Size L of Triban easy has all exactly the same dimensions as size L of Triban RC 100. The Triban easy only has the Stem 2 cm shorter. But for the money, compared to the Triban RC 100 it offeres an extra gear in the rear, and also double break systems, and gear changing on the break lever, not on the handlerbars like the RC 100. I would just update the brakes to camponello potenza but I can't find them anywhere
I will be doing upgrade for fit group set claris r2000 2x8 I will keep wheels and fork so even after that that bike will be cheaper than any endurance gravel bike what can fit 32-38c tires About brakes that dialpivots are fine only pads need to be change to get really efficient braking level
Hey, thanks for the video. Can you please share the list of your part for this upgrade?
Hello.....can u share the details of the brake shifters u bought??? And thankyou
What u have done to ur bike has been a project I wanted to overtake for a long time....😁
Hi. Part list please?
I would like to change the cranksey only what do you think I should buy
Wanted to change the fork but i wasn't able to loose the crown ring on the old steel fork and i don't want to change the whole head set... :(
Nicely done, What is the maximum no of speed cassettes this frame can accommodate?

What's the biggest improvement? I'm guessing it's the wheels or the tyres?
I'm going to do the same when I get mine
Nice upgrades! I'm thinking of being way more conservative with mine. But personally I do find the two screw stem being annoyingly unsecure. Would you agree with that spending 5€ on a four screw stem should be one of the first upgrades?

Hello awesome video, can you send the link for the fork please?
I was thinking the exact thing about the shifter and am thinking of just replacing the right lever with a shimano brifter since it's a single chainring bike, which I think that's what you did in the video. Was wondering how the grip and handling feel like, with a tektro lever on the left and a shimano on the right. Also: did you need a longer shifter cable or a different brake cable?
@bastlerdiy449
2 жыл бұрын
Jup, I only changed the right lever. I think I even reused the old cable and housing for the brake, but had to replace the shifter cable and housing, because the old one wasn't long enough. The Shimano shifter is a bit bigger and bulkier. So it feels a bit different than the Tektro one. But during day-to-day use I barely notice it.

@@bulldoggishitzuu I bought BTwin Triban 100 after having a nice Vitus road bike stolen. I saved 1kg in weight immediately by swapping out the original gravel style tyres for some decent road tyres , and my intention was next to change the AO50 palm changer for a 'brifter' - having been used to them for years. But - here's one for the drive train snobs - after a few rides I found,to my surprise, that I preferred the AO50 shifter. It is snappy, precise, changes very fast, and you can run through the full gear range in one movement. Yes it is a bit more inconvenient in use, but for an old school cyclist brought up on down tube shifters that is not a problem. It is not quite as posh, I suppose, but I would not now go back to 'brifters'. The bike is built around an excellent frame so rides extremely well, and the much derided Tourney rear mech. behaves flawlessly, having hardly put a foot wrong in 6,000 km. The limited gear range and the lack of a high top gear doesn't actually bother me now, because having just reached 91 years of age my legs prefer spinning to pushing. I even fitted a 40t chainwheel to help. An excellent bike for the price, even without upgrades.
It would be great if u put on a list everything u have changed on the bike and name of these accessories. Not so easy to change the product when u are a novice ;)
My RC100 upgraded to Claris groupset, unbranded carbon wheel, 25c tires. Very smooth and fast! Now thinking of changing the frame or buy a new bike.

Don't bother to spend money on changing the shifter. I used brifters for years and my intention was to change the shifter right away, but having got used to the AO50 - I know it's heresy to say so - I now prefer it. It is very precise and changes can be made much faster than with brifters. As far as I am concerned the only advantage of a brifter would be it's snob value.

Isn't the 100 the one with a flat bar? Sort of a fitness/commuter bike, while the RC stands for Road Cycling or something similar and has a drop bar and is a gravel/road bike. If you ride in the city a lot, maybe get the triban 100, or do as this guy did and upgrade your shifter on the rc100.

There is no difference. B'Twin Triban 100 was released in 2017 just when Decathlon announced that they will change the brand to simply Triban and drop the B'Twin brand. All the Triban 100 bikes released after 2018 are just painted silver with the Triban writings on the sides and they are named RC100. Prior to 2018 they had black B'Twin on the sides and it was named B'Twin Triban 100 (just like the one in this video). Other than that they are the same bike.
@Toretto16
2 жыл бұрын
@@isaac-mihaiperianu6425 They are not the same. The biggest difference is that Triban has a rear wheel with cassette and quick release, and the hub can take up to 10 gears cassette. The older Btwin Triban has rear wheel with out quick release and freehub which can take only up to 7 gears. And the new Triban has more efficient brakes. Those small differences make a Triban a bit better bike.

Usually in the specs for forks they say the max tire width it can support. Since you are more than 28, I would look at gravel bike forks if that's the size you like. Road bike forks max out usually around 25-28. The stem usually comes long and can be trimmed to fit the frame size you have.
