Azerbaijan are recentering themselves in the competition and on a path of finding their place, which I find quite refreshing, bold and beautiful. they used to always bring songs composed by foreign, often Swedish, songwriters and to me it always felt odd and out of place. granted, they still have a long way to go and they're only taking the first steps towards the new version of themselves. and even though I didn't hate their previous two entries, there was something arguably still missing. this year, despite not gathering huge support in the bubble so far, I think they took a huge step forward. the song is elegant, emotional, traditional yet modern, incredibly well written and that orchestration is just magical. it's in my top 5 this year and I can see it going up! I hope it qualifies but honestly I'm not expecting it to happen. btw, Fulenn was also my favourite song in 2022 😉

This song is very good, especially the traditional melodies in the mugam system of music. By the way, the mugam system and culture is not unique for Azerbaijan, it is used in the all Turkic countries, Arabic countries and Iran. However every country has its own style. Traditional Turkish art music has formed and improved on the logic of mugam system (we say "makam" in Turkiye) We, the Turks of Turkiye, have composed a lot of songs in mugam system which are in classic, more traditional or modern styles. They are very beautifull and artistic songs. Your comments about the singer and the structure of the song were on spot except for associating it with turkish culture. The song contains contemporary electro pop vibes and Mugam has nothing to do with turkic culture. Its origin goes back to the arabic culture.The word itself derived from "Maqam" which means stage, degree. The similar way of singing is also common in spanish traditional folk music Flamenco, where singer makes lots of quick vibratos on major notes.

Mugam is the national treasure of Azerbaijan. Only Azerbaijanis sing mugham beautifully. For some reason, I haven’t seen mugham singing among the Arabs. You have to really look at everything. Who are you to judge. Even UNESCO recognized mugham as the national treasure of Azerbaijan. Don’t envy, but learn !!!🤘🇦🇿🤘🇦🇿🤘🇦🇿🤘

I didn't suggest that Arabs sing exactly the way Maqamat is sung in Azerbaijan but initial traces of this musical genre is really rooted in Arabic culture and It's introduced into Azerbaijani culture under the influence of Persian. "Who am I to judge ?" Well. I'm a music history and theory graduate in National Conservatory and we had a comprehensive lecture about the emergence of Maqamat in the era of islamic renaissance in around 10th century. No doubt that other nations that adopted it have made some changings or added certain elements onto it.

@@JustESCAnalyst The Arabs don't have any Mugham singer. The Turks from Turkey don't have a mugham singer either. Scientific treatises on Mughams were created by the great musicologist of the East - Abdulgadir Maraghayi, Safieddin Urmavi. Both were from Azerbaijan (that part in Iran nowadays). In 2008, Azerbaijani mughams were included in UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
