    Then Poland could’ve qualified like I wanted! But… Finland would be eliminated which wouldn’t be good for me… I’ve been starting to root for Finland ever since Kaarija’s outstanding performance.

  • @jason256-8
    @jason256-88 сағат бұрын

    But either way maybe it’s time for the juries to continue voting in the semifinals, because now with them out of the semifinals, the juries have fewer choices to choose in the grand final and potentially there will be fewer songs that the jury would like. Hence these few songs would have more concentrated jury scores. And it led to issues where they came off as ‘biased’, like how they gave Sweden 15 sets of 12 last year and Switzerland 22 sets of 12 this year.

    Australia came 2nd last in Eurojury ahead of only Finland…I’m curious as to why some people think juries would have suddenly supported it.

  • @JustESCAnalyst
    @JustESCAnalyst5 сағат бұрын

    Eurojury was based on the music videos and not on their live performances. Australian song was one of a few radio-friendly ones in this semi-final and it really came alive with this live performance 👌 Also don’t forget that, ranking all 37 songs at once, juries would had Australia rather in the middle of their tops, meaning not giving points. But choosing just among 14 other semi-finalists, I am sure they would have to give points to Australia

  • @cathalsheehan9596
    @cathalsheehan95964 сағат бұрын

    @@JustESCAnalyst Eurojury also asses the song quality which as it showed the Australia song is a bad light. The performance live wasn’t enough to overcome the reality that the song just isn’t very good. Possibly but the same argument could be made for all the other songs it was competing with. I suspect with a lot of people that they think just because it’s Australia it would automatically be liked by juries despite the grave signs that don’t support it.

    Really interesting video, was thinking about this the other day. One thing I disagree on is Poland getting so much points from the juries, as Luna's vocals were not particularly good, so Finland or Slovenia would have still qualified

  • @JustESCAnalyst
    @JustESCAnalyst16 сағат бұрын

    Thank you, Diego 👌 You are right about the vocals, but they were actually not really bad. Her voice is not strong, but she was just singing in quite a delicate way and she has hit the notes. I believe the juries would vote for this one as it is one of very few potential radio-hits from this semi-final. Modern pop track but not a trashy europop, which juries usually do not appreciate 😅

    I did the maths and if you take the jury results for switzerland from the semi final 2 countries and take away all the countries that didn't compete in semi 2 than Switzerland hypothetically got 214 out of 218 points, but that's assuming they voted the same in the final as in the semi but I don't think it would be far off

    And analysing Ukraine's top 3 entry being sad for "politics taking it down a bit" is hilarious considering the fact that politics got Ukraine to top 3 position at the first place. You are of course right. It is obvious, that super high points were r not just given to the song, but rather to show support against the bullying of the Israeli entry. I would not consider the jury score too low, 12th place is a perfectly great result for a ballad, however a few of the jury members have admitted ranking this too low due to the politics.

    We should reverse the order. Make semis 50/50 and make finals televote only. That way higher quality stuff will go to the final but the contest won't feel rigged as happened in last two years. Regarding the fact that 30 years ago it was jury only, it couldn't be any other way. There were no cell phones, hardly any internet and even landline phones were frequently pulse dialing. Something like a televote could only use the more advanced tone dialing and stable computerized systems. In old ESCs even the voting was a hard procedure with those unstable international calls that frequently disconnected. Their cost to an ordinary person was very high - up to 4 current day Euros per minute and often required and operator. A funny fact regarding the old days, one of the biggest traitors in American history, Aldrich Ames, sold secrets to the Soviets to cover his wife's international calls bills among his reasons to do that.

  • @JustESCAnalyst
    @JustESCAnalyst3 күн бұрын

    You are absolutely right, that in the past it was simply not possible. But you know, between 1999 and 2009 Eurovision final results were determined only by the televote. What was happening between ex-Yugoslavian and ex-USSR countries was simply unfair. Countries like big-5, Ireland, Switzerland were suffering a lot and stood no chance to be in top-20 if they were not sending top-5-worth entries. So I can definitely see, why we re-introduced the juries. Now actually the number of countries from both of these blocks significantly reduced, so having 100%-televote would not be a bad idea 👍

I don't think that most of us expected to get such a good result considering the temperature of the room, we just wanted our voice heard and that was certainly achieved thanks to Eden! Ukraine absolute lack of support was shocking to me personally as I know most of us Israelis have been very vocal in supporting them. I have family members who were born in Ukraine and went on missions to help them at face of war, setting up mobile medical clinics at the borders, and sending aid. We thought that there will be more empathy from the public if not the judges, but the results makes me feel it all has been one sided. It is what it is. Nevertheless we are happy with all the love and support we received from the silent majority in the public vote, it did warm my heart personally to know we are not completely alone💙

    I am glad that Raiven got to a Eurovision Final. I am glad that Norway sang in Norwegian and hope they won't be scared off from trying again. I am glad that Germany and Luxembourg did well and I am happy to see Luxembourg back in the fold. I am happy that Ireland, Georgia and Latvia all seem to have shaken a monkey off their backs. I have no objections to the winner and the Top 10. I do wonder what Malta needs to do to do well again and yes, San Marino needs to #SendSerhat or #VolunteerValentina and get her the record outright because NeoDisco is just the microstate's thing, it's what they do best, like Moldova and Eastern European eccentricity and 3 years in the San Marinese rock experiment has clearly failed. Saying that I am British and I am THRILLED that 'Dizzy' bombed. I didn't think Olly was a good choice when he was announced in December and I hate to say "I told you so." In what was going to be a contentious year, it's probably a good idea to pick someone with a good deal of tact and maturity who can handle the complexities with grace - which is NOT him. It would also be nice to be represented by someone who doesn't mouth off about how "problematic" he thinks his own/our national flag is and then proceeds to be a complete hypocrite and wear it like a cape as if he's proud suddenly. Pick a lane Olly and please stick with it. I am old school, I just want to judge the entries by their respective merits, I am capable of distancing what I think about the entry from what I think about the act, I am an adult, but he makes it difficult to do that if he is claiming to represent you. The other problem for me is that Olly is trash as a live singer by ESC standards, he just wasn't going to cut it on a night when you have so many top-rate singers. That was my initial gut instinct when I learned that the BBC wanted him to go. "Oh dear, another Mae Muller situation." I hate to be right. Leaving my doubts about the artist selection to the side - I found the lyrics a bit basic to be honest, the song as a whole was just a bit too generic and could be from anywhere, which is kind of the opposite of what is doing really well nowadays - you know a French song, an Italian song, a Ukrainian song, a Portuguese song when you hear them, 'Dizzy' could be from anywhere and says nothing about either Olly as an artist or the musical culture he claims to represent, so to me I find it really hard to justify the Jury score on any level. At least Lucie Jones went to Kyiv 2017 with a song in a genre the British tend to specialise in and had a lot to do with developing - musical theatre and sang the crap out of the song, Olly doesn't have that. That is why Sam did so well in Turin after-all, he sings brilliantly well, he has natural charisma and 'Space Man' sounds 1970s British, the staging was an added x-factor that generated a national record point total and 2nd place. I presume the Juries responded to the commercial nature of this song and the fact the staging was conceptually clever with the camera angles and all the hanging off the box. My real problem it is that the BBC doesn't understand the Contest AT ALL. They have no clue how to appeal to anyone but themselves clearly. What was that? Seriously, a five-way in a grotty public toilet? Apparently I'm not the only person to think that it was poorly conceived and didn't really have boundaries and everyone at the BBC just thought this was so great. They had a good concept that could have worked and threw it away on Olly's vanity. They might have gotten away with it had they had a mixed gender team of dancers to reduce the overtly sexual implications of some parts, lets say leaning into the tango-at-an-angle concept from Alma's music video in 2017 and the digital 'skin' of the interior of the box looked more appealing, like say a club space or a changing backdrop showing a couple of locales people might actually like to be and spend time in. Apparently that was the 3rd or 4th version of the dancing to try to tone down from what Olly promised would be the "gayest" entry ever. Worked out really well didn't it? I don't have ANY problems with a very camp entry, I have no problems with a challenging entry (I voted for '1944' back in the day) - I often rather like them, but there was a line of good taste and they crossed it. Try sending something that actually looks pleasant to look at next time BBC and maybe the Televote will give you a couple of points. Mind-boggling that they did such a good job of hosting for someone else last year and yet get their entries so totally wrong so often. Perhaps there was a group of Ukrainians whispering in Andrew Cartmel's ear saying "too much, less is more" a lot last year and he actually listened or maybe Sam was just a fluke. I think a bit of both. At this point, if we have to keep sending entries, can we just accept we belong in the Bottom 5 and be done with it? Just send SuRie again with one of her own songs, let her do what she likes for her staging and lets not pretend that we will trouble the Top 15 again.

    Yeah, this year’s top-10 is very much justified, no huge surprises. Seems like we share the same opinion about Norway, Germany and Slovenia this year 👌 About Malta you are so right. But I think this year they would have qualified being the only bop of the semi-final and especially being somewhere in the second half. You saw, Georgia and Austria also did not do so well, so there were no points left for Sarah. With regards to the UK, yes, BBC really shows they do not understand the contest well. First of all you need a singer who is great live (like Sam Ryder), the song should be also not just a bunch of lyrical cliches if it is representing a country where English is obviously not just a foreign language. But the delegation seems to prioritize the stage show and radio-friendliness of the song over the first two crucial points. Let’s see what they bring next year, I am very curious!

    @@JustESCAnalyst Yes will check out more of the videos. Interesting Views :-) Well Austria and Spain were very celebrated at the Final Live Show but received not much votes. Of course not the best Vocals. It seems this is for sure something important.

    "Israel is probably not top 5 this year" Israel is 5th place overall in the final, 2nd in the televote. Haha I guess you never know with the Eurovision vote!
