Az-1, Beat, Cappuccino: But what about tall people??

Main question that people interested in buying one of the ABC ask me: I'm tall (or fat), do you think I can fit in one?
While always better to find a car to try it out for yourself, me and my 188cm for 90kg try to go over the whole "fitting" matter with those cars.
Hopefully it helps!

    If I were to buy any of these cars, I would just go for a quick detach conversion of the steering wheel.

    Matt take my word...GET THE BRIDES. they are specifically made for kei cars. my seats don’t really fit (you have to force the door closed) and the seats don’t move. they must remain fixed because the rail used. i don’t remember what rail my mechanic used but if i could do it over it again i’d save for seats that were designed for small cars. unless you do something custom. but yea maybe ask around and see who has what seats in their kei cars. you might find some more info with them.

    Thank you for making this video. I've been saving for a cappuccino for a while now but I've always had the "what if I don't fit" in the back of my head and start to worry that I'm gonna waste nearly 10k USD. I'm not as tall, 5'8" last I measured a few years ago, so now I'm positive I'm gonna get one once I save up money 👌

    On the AZ-1, note you can fix most of the issues with leg clearance and ingress/exit by adding a quick release or tilting quick release steering wheel hub. It will add about 2-2.5" of space from the stock wheel position and that will bring it away from your thighs as well as remove the obstacle of the steering wheel when getting in and out. Additionally, you don't have to grab onto the glass or put your hands all over the door sill/seals, you can just reach back slightly where the side bolsters are on the seat and just push yourself up/down that way and therefore not damage your weather seals or get your hands all dirty and I find it actually easier to just grab/push off the seat. Do both of these things and it's honestly not a problem at all to get in and out of and drive. It's crazy that the vast majority of owners still have the stock wheel position despite being tall, it's only like $100 for a universal quick release.

    For AZ-1 I would relocate the pedal box, and remove the stock seat and then do a custom foam seat like in the single seaters, relocate the steering wheel with spacers, and maybe adjusting the steering column.

  • @amamotor9032

    @amamotor9032

    The seat of the AZ-1 is already as thin as can be... What could be done would be to relocate the seat 5cm backward as there is about this much and maybe finding one just as think that can actually lean back and forth unlike the stock seat. But when it comes to space, while it's still doable to live with one for someone my size, I'm afraid at 6'5 it's a bit of a lost cause... The stock seat without the foam as in the video is already only 2cm thick at worst... I mean you could probably somewhat get in the car and sort of drive it... But I wouldn't wish what you'd endure doing it to my worst enemy :)

    Oh! Trés bien. Vous êtes jaune! Mate, you're only 5 cm taller than me. But, people in our height range are great 'gauges' for assessing vehicle driving positions and those kinds of things. I have a mate who is 177 cm tall, quite fat, and he has major issues with fitting into my Mazda MX-5 RF. But that's due to his posture being fucked up, and not so much his extra kilograms...lol. Very good video, as always, and very useful for people having any doubts about whether they will fit or not.

I've been getting back into French, it's been a while. Alliance Française is my lifeline here in Brisbane, Australia. It'd be funny to see fatter people attempting to get into a Cappuccino, or the other cars you tested. I guess the safest way is to use a blender to get them in, and corn chips or biscuits to get them out... I don't think the dip would be that tasty though... :-D

    The rear suspension setup is a mess in stock form... the engine is too high, the body roll is too massive... Combined wit hthe tightest steering rack on this planet, it makes the car really unstable and it has the craziest lift off oversteer on any car I've ever driven... Combine that with the impossibility to counter steer due to the lack of room and you got quite a receipe for disaster :)

  • @brulevin

    @brulevin

    6 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for the clarification. I was imagining something like this, but I didn't know about the engine mounting height. Do you know if there there any aftermarket larger front anti roll bars available for this car? A stiffer suspension, especially in the rear, will only make oversteer worse. The only things that can be done are higher rate front shocks, larger front anti roll bar, or lower tires pressures in the rear (coupled with higher front pressures). Hope that might help other people watching your channel. As someone who also lives in Japan and has been curious about the JDM market I really appreciate your experience with so many makes and model of cars. Keep up the good work.

    Az1 looks the coolest be really, why do you want gull wing doors and mclaren windows when you could have a drop top. What’s the hang up? Verts are for skirts? You don’t think your past that already? Let me spell it out, you can’t be 6ft tall and catch air in an AZ1. Clarkson was right. The beat is the jdm sports kart you can live with.

  • @amamotor9032

    @amamotor9032

    The head room for tall people is pretty good in the AZ-1... The main issue is the leg room. Only reason Clarkson could fit in the Beat is because he had the top down (he is like 6'6 or so...) The Cappuccino is really the only car that's daily driveable here... Decent room for the driver and passenger and decent size trunk to carry a couple of bags. The AZ-1 has simply no trunk... The Honda Beat's trunk is so small that a 6-pack of beer barely even fits... The Cappuccino is also quicker than 1.6L Miata on a straight line up to something like 70mph. It's te best compromise of the lot.
