Ayrton Senna's championship winning car screams round Goodwood | 78th Members' Meeting
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ayrton Senna's final F1 championship victory, his nephew, Bruno, was handed the keys to his final title-winning car, the screaming Honda V12-powered McLaren Mp4/6, for some unrestricted laps of the Goodwood Motor Circuit.
After a few laps getting used to the conditions, and with no safety car or other cars to restrict him, Bruno put in some stunning laps, demonstrating the awesome noise and vision of a 1991 F1 car in action.

Love the looks of the late 80’s early 90’s F1 cars, that was the golden era for me personally.
For me, this is the most beautiful F1 car. Magical.
I was in the opening ceremony of the 88 grand pix in Adelaide ( Roller Skating down pit straight ) so got to see those cars up close and personal and the sound was phenomenal and a memory I cherish to this very day. Senna/Prost/Mansell was the best racing ever.
I’m happy they left the Marlboro logos in the car.

Oh Wow! Just marvellous. Modern F1 leaves me cold - but this is the era I was a massive fan.......
The driver and car and team that got me hooked on formula one 🏁 Been a McLaren fan ever since, hopefully we are recovering from the wilderness now 🏁❤️
Well done for constantly talking over the best sounding F1 engine of the best 30 years
That gives me tingles watching - Bruno has Ayrtons eyes too
The raw analog mechanized opera of that Honda V12 is an endorphin overload! What a treasure!
The best F1 car ever. How did it all go so wrong from then on as far as spectator entertainment ?. MP4/4 is a beautiful F1 car & at Monaco in Ayrtons hands was pure joy to watch.. 👍🥇🏆🇧🇷
Pinnacle of true racing this car. Simplicity, shapes are top notch, v12 the sound... Iconic livery, just beautiful thing. Sadly its not Ayrton under that helmet. Rest in peace champ.. Just a little bit less that blaablaa PLEASE! While it is lapping.. Well late now.

I, too, wonder why modern F1 cars are complex and gizmo-laden and all of that. And being able to shift and corner and drive all at once is what it should be all about, otherwise why bother, really. And I miss the days when the bar to entry was actually accessible and not basically impossible as it is today. And I feel that way about all forms of racing, give people a chance at building a car and towing it to the track and making the field. Racing used to be wild and crazy and fun like that.
Always a treat seeing sennas car
1991 Brazilian GP was Senna's mastery with a broken gearbox.

Whenever people with short-term memory or recency bias - or both - go on about Sir Lewis Hamilton being the "greatest of all time", I just roll my eyes. A great driver he may be - unquestionably so - but he's not part of a great era of the sport. In Senna's time everything was more unforgiving: the cars to drive, the level of the competition, the points system, the danger to the drivers, even the circuits; you couldn't even use the curbs on most tracks, they were so brutally unforgiving. These days with the ludicrous downforce of the modern cars, legendary corners like Pouhon at Spa are basically flat-out formalities, while in Senna's time they were life-threatening horrors to be respected. So no, Hamilton is not the greatest of all time. A great for sure, but probably not even a Top 3 of all time candidate.
@Lucas-ck1po

Oh boy, you've got yourself a ticket to a public stoning here hehe But yeah, let me join you in this, i agree with that. Technology increases dramatically the amount of downforce, modern tyre compounds, brakes, dampers, the sheer insane long wheelbases these cars have nowadays and of course the tarmac surfaces have improved dramatically as well. F1 up until the early 90's was kart racing on steroids. Nowadays It's alot more of a corporate race than it ever was.
@ciello___8307

Its kind of hard to say when you can't even compare the drivers in their primes. I think Senna is a little overrated as well. Prost was successful for a longer period, and you had guys like Piquet who was a beast at that time before his injury. Senna also had the benefit of Really dominant machinery for most of his successful years too. And While the old cars were more brutal, the new cars are more complex. The drivers have to manage so much during a race. Gaps between cars are MUCH smaller now too. We're talking milliseconds between 1st and 5th. There is a much smaller margin of error now. Back then it was more than that. Even seconds.
@petertromp8786

@@Lucas-ck1po I don't think today's cars are easy to drive by any means; just that in the past the cars were brutally difficult to drive, and the circuits were incredibly unforgiving.
@petertromp8786

@@ciello___8307 Senna won a lot of races, or came close to winning a lot of races when he had no right to - before he ever joined McLaren; heck, he even won races he had no right to win when the McLaren was absolute garbage compared to the top car of the time. The margin of error being so much smaller now is because there's less room for driver's skill to be the deciding factor, because the cars do most of the heavy lifting, no matter the situation or the parameters of the circuit. When a driver makes a mistake now, there's usually a massive runoff area and he can continue with his race having suffered a minor setback; in Senna's time a mistake usually resulted in a major, life-threatening off. The drivers may "have to manage so much during a race" a race these days, but it's mostly just aids that's there to help them even more beyond the already ludicrous downforce. Let's also not forget that in Senna's time they had a separate gear leaver. That's far more work required from the driver simply to keep the car on track than today's business of changing differential and bias settings on straights to help you even more during corners.
