  • @LukeAmaral

The 1989 championship was not decided on a crash. It was decided on politics. Senna continued racing after the crash on a remarkable recovery and victory after having to pit to change his broken wing which would guarantee his fight for the championship, but he was disqualified by Prost's compatriot and friend for "cutting" the chicane. Also, this video makes it seem like Senna crashed on Prost in 1990 as a payback for Prost crashing into him in 1989 which is not exactly true. It was payback to the incident in it's entirely, not just the crash. It had more to do with the fact that Formula 1 politics was happening again since Prost's friend who had disqualified Senna the year before, had denied Senna's request to switch the pole position to the clean side of the track which gave Prost the advantage.

One more fact that proves what you said. When Senna came back on the track, he overtook Alessandro Nannini to regain the lead at the exact same chicane and in the exact same way he overtook Prost. But unlike the Frenchman, the Italian didn’t close the door in an unsportsmanlike manner. (Later Schumacher did the same. Twice. With Hill and Villeneuve.)

  • @harmkuijpers6642

Senna was rightfully disqualified, but for the wrong reason. His car had stalled, so he received outside assistance to get going again. This was against the rules and had been cause for disqualification many times. In 1990, Piquet got a DQ in Monaco for that very reason. As did Reutemann in 1978 in Austria. Or Pironi at Watkins Glen 1979. The fact that the Japanese marshalls helped him, probably had something to do with his popularity in that country. Fact of the matter is, that even with preferential treatment from Honda, he still couldn't beat Prost in 89 and wouldn't have won the 88 title either, if all results had counted. Yes, Senna won more races, but also crashed out of the lead twice, while Prost's retirements were mechanical. Senna would have retired from the 1988 Brazilian GP, as he stalled at the start, but illegally changed his car before getting DQ'd.

What he shouted while still in the car after winning in Brazil for the first time is, up to this day, my favourite “speech” ever in F1 😂

A true legend of an amazing sport. He will always be remembered for his outstanding talent and his great personality. So sad he had to go so soon 🥲. He will always be remembered and respected by F1 fans. Great gesture by Seb Vettel last weekend to honor Ayrton 🙏🏼❤️

Senna would of thrashed Prost in 89 if his car didnt keep on breaking down, a lot of races he was 30 seconds ahead of Prost

He finished only 8 out of 16 races, winning six and leading Prost on two. He abandoned three races while leading and was subtracted another win at Suzuka.

Mansel also crashed on him after receiving the black flag. Senna got 2 wins robbed from him in 1989, not to mention all the car failures. In equal conditions He absolutely destroyed Prost that season.
