When Senna got his "computer" in 1993 he didn't win either. Not the greatest. Ayrton had the best car from 1988 to 1991, 4 years, should we complain about that?

@@livingbeing1113 please dont talk out of your ass, you clearly dont know F1 history. Senna had a prior generation Ford Engine which generated 80 less horsepower than the rest of the field. Williams DOMINATED the 1991-1997 era, and still lost to senna in 1991 with a clearly inferior car and saw Senna take several wins in 1993 with a clearly underpowered car, again, with 80 less worse power and an active suspension that was not even close to what willians had. Senna is the best ever, dont take my word for it, take the F1 drivers word, like Schummy, Hakkinen, Alonso, Hamilton and so many others.

Why do I have the feeling that in 1992, people that were fans of the 1970’s and earlier would be saying the same thing. The cars now are hard to drive, the drivers now are skilled and fit as ever, and there still remains good circuits and bad circuits. Of course I’m not suggesting every change is positive (v6 hybrids suck), but just remember that in 20 years time people will be looking upon our times as the “glory days.”

Written below by A. Santos, below: "Senna was the last champion in history with a car with a mechanical manual transmission in 1991, without revs control or electronic accelerator that synchronized and managed the delivery of power and changes via software, with everything starting to be integrated together with the transmission and engine via electro-hydraulic system. The 3 biggest of all of this golden era 1950-91: Fangio, Clark and Senna in chronological order, it doesn't matter who is first because the title will be in great hands with whichever one it is. Then came the era electronics and button presses. Ps. Without ever forgetting that Ayrton is the only driver in F1 history to win a championship with the much-hyped monster V12 engines. Only he was able to tame them."

Ayrton's McLaren's MP4/8 was extremely advanced and had better electronics and active-suspensions than anyone, it just had a weaker engine compared to Williams and Benetton earlier in the season. 3 жыл бұрын

@@diegom3695 I have to correct you because your comments, "That was his own choice", and, "Everyone had paddles", are simply not true. This race was the opening round of the 1992 FIA Formula One World Championship and the only cars running semi automatic gearboxes with a steering wheel mounted paddle shift were Ferrari with their F-92A and Williams with their FW14B. Every other car on the grid, the remaining 22 out of the 26 starters, had a manual gearbox that required the driver to take their hand off the steering wheel to change gear. Senna drove for McLaren in 1992 and for the opening two races they ran their updated 1991 car, the MP4/6B. The MP4/6B was not designed to have a semi automatic gearbox with a steering wheel mounted paddle shift fitted and as a result the drivers could not choose to run manual or semi automatic. The car ran with a manual H pattern gearbox like every other car on the grid with the exception of the Ferrari and Williams entries. Ferrari introduced the first semi automatic gearbox with a paddle shift system in 1989 with their type 640 or F1-89. The second team to introduce a similar system was Williams in 1991 with the FW14. The third team was McLaren with the MP4/7A in 1992 that they ran from the third race in Brazil onwards. It was commonplace in 1992 for teams to begin the season with cars from the previous season that were either evolutions of, or cars they finished the previous season with. It must be noted that a semi automatic gearbox was not introduced to make the cars easier to drive, it was done to make the cars quicker over a lap and subsequently a race distance.

You could also see how much Senna’s mechanics loved him and how much he appreciated them. Prost was all business shows up to check his settings doesn’t greet anyone leaves like he’s got explosive diarrhea. When those Ferrari’s hit the test laps with the paddle shifters you could hear every shift...bam, bam, bam 💥. The regular shifting cars sounded long drawn out shifts. That was a different world.

Sure, I’d much rather listen to the screams of a V10, but at the end of the day im watching F1to see the best drivers in the world race. Also, while the V6s are horrible compared to most of the engines in F1 history, they still sound good.

F1 is not the entirety of the sport. Just one series. I like racing because I like cars. IMO, and yes I hope I'm entitled to one, F1 cars today are just weird. Luckily for me, vintage racing is very much alive, and at many events quite competitive (SVRA Trans Am racing being one of them, another being Can Am). I was always 'there for the racing.'
