To be fair, the bosses in the first game were a breeze, too -- it was the exploration (specifically hunting down all the weapons) that was a pain in the butt. So this may not bother fans of the first as much.

Yeah, the bosses in 1 tended to be simple enough, well...except for that second-to-last boss right before the final boss x_x

2:35 That ability lets you see the layout of the other world too, so you're not just blindly leaping from one to the other as you suggest at 2:43.

I'm not quite sure what the hell they were thinking making the combat in this sequel so simplistic, the fact that your arsenal was so huge and there was so much manic shooting in the first game is one of main things people loved about that game...?!

Mixed feelings on this one. Loved the first game but seeing that the action has been dialled right down in this one feels a bit like an error of judgement for me. The exploration does look unique though. A bold choice for sure. Might pick this one up when the game is in a sale.

Axiom Verge 1 had cool setting, interesting characters, simple yet intriguing plot, and most of all it had sick soundtrack. Axiom Verge 2 has...well...

Tom Happ is a great artist, but hopefully next time around he focuses on gameplay.

Sounds like it's up to how much you like your games to be nail-bitingly hard or not. For me, a busy Dad who barely has enough time to play games anyways, a less frustrating difficulty curve sounds perfect so I'll be picking this up 🙂

Is this blatant downgrade from the first game the reason it was released as an Epic exclusive for PC? This gameplay and design is so vastly different (and seemingly inferior) to the first game it doesn't even look like it's related beyond the name and world building. And the art looks like generic placeholder compared to the first game.

The greatest trait of the first game (the sheer amount of different weapons which were useful in different scenarios) isn't there anymore. Disappointing.

Because you didn't play the 1st one? You get that it's a pixilated game right? That they're not going for fps or graphical greatness, right?

Got it on Switch, played for about 4 hours then deleted it. The combat is horrid, having to stop moving and crouch to attack a majority of the enemies is not fun, it's annoying.

Jesus not every game is gonna be hollow knight quality. This game was made by one dude and hollow knight has a whole team. And just because you didn't feel the need to switch weapons doesn't make the game bad, it just means you limited yourself. You can beat dark souls with the starting sword easily so what was your point honestly? Also you don't even mention the soundtrack... Blasphemy.

Hollow Knight was made by three guys; Axiom Verge was made by one man whose son is impaired. It's expected that Happ would make the game accessible to those with disabilities. The game is an 8/10 for me. But that's just my opinion.

Does anyone remember what the score for the original axiom verge was?
