I’m sooo happy that HPI is back with the legendary Savage! The weakest link on these trucks I’d say is the hing pin braces. They really need to be about twice as thick and made out of titanium as well as the hing pins themselves. Oh well, maybe by the time the v3 comes, it’ll be all revamped. What HPI really should do is build a 1/5 or 1/6 super savage! That’ll gain their reputation and popularity back for sure!
between the fireteam the sledge and this truck's prices its why i went to 5th scale good bash tho man
Same EXACT break for me and I did no jumping, get the adjustable links
Nice run! Looks like a fun truck!
Awesome video! I've been out of the traditional monster truck game for awhile with all the truggies being so great for big airs but I think I'm gonna give this one a try!
Amazing bash! What a difference that center diff makes. I'm not even going to say it but you know what to do with that servo😆
I really like my Flux XL V2 but things to note: -Stock tires suck and yes, one or more will unglue. The stock foams are trash and deform under 4s+ power. On 6s, one or more tire(s) will literally explode so have a spare set on hand. -The stock servo is slooooooow and almost worthless. -The front and rear diffs only have grease in them, the center has oil and it looks pretty thin. -Hpi did a great job as they thread locked just about everything in this truck, including the diffs. However, make sure you preheat the diff crown gear screws before attempting to remove them or they are GUARANTEED to strip. -The stock internal diff gears will break and when they do, replace with the aftermarket hardened set available online as they are much stronger. Truck is definitely a bit overpriced but it's an HPI and I'm gald they are back.
I still like it 👍🏻
Excellent. Try to do a pit stop video on the savage
A "lazy" animal but an animal. And fun to bash for sure. Good vid, sir, great drive and jumps. Thanks for sharing!
Looks fun around the trees. The beastly savage. Jumps are rough on any vehicles parts.
Beast
Great video as well as your unboxing vid . Mirst rc was the savage xl k5.9 when it was released . The steering sucked as well . I was new to rc so i upgraded with the hpi b045 steering upgrade which should be standard on these . then hpi goliath tires and a hitec 7950 servo . the bearing upgrade made a lot of difference by itself . I still have it and will be ordering this xl v2 . hopefully they will release a nitro xl version
Nice truck. I've always been a fan of HPI I'd love to get my hands on a new XL. Seems like hpi has made some nice changes ,a bit to Pricey.

I feel they have Always been pricey. I like the brand tho, i got many savages. I would Love if they realese their baja 1/5 again :)
HPI used to be at the top of their game with durability and most of their kits used to be Made in Japan at one point. Then compromises started happening and they shifted to Taiwan (Still ok, although not acceptable to me). Apparently, under the third ownership they've shifted the production further to China! Now that's downright cheap and it shows clearly in all their current kits. The cheap feeling plastics, anodizing and even the durability sucks for what it is. But on the other hand, their prices are higher than the competition for some reason. It would be really stupid to buy a Chinese made low quality truck with durability issues and lack of parts support right now. Yes, if they decide to produce their kits in Europe and Japan at this price with better quality, I'm game!
Nice Vas , I've heard great things about these . Too bad about the link but these things happen. 6s will be crazy.
Great video Vas. I want this truck so bad. It just looks like a beast ripping around. Truck looks like it floats through the air. Stupid links 🤣
Nitro coming soon 5.9 Big Block, i can't wait!!!
I just left the race track....😂 😂 😂 I was happy too!
Well very nice, looks tough and screems power, nice wide stance, shame about the links and servo but a typical example for all rc cars. Great run
Chique o carro 🛻 elétrico 👀✌🏼👍🏻🤩
Nice run Vas. Shame about the link splitting but I guess this hobby is like that mate. You don’t expect it to be so early on in its life either so I can concur with your disappointment. For your tyres, use Loctite Power Flex Super Glue Gel I found it to be the best glue I’ve ever used. It has a rubber compound in it so it super tuff with flexibility. 😎🤙🏼👊🏼💪🏼
Reminds me of when I broke an A arm and bent a shock rod on the rear when I hit a trash bin cause of understeer on my Slash 4x4. Didn't think it was that hard of a hit. Physics is weird sometimes
Will be interested to see it on 6s. Busted link, tires coming unglued, crappy servo 👀 Pretty eventful first run! I saw the price on this, it’s pretty up there for a 1/8 scale😱
Maybe bring a little piece of plywood with you and make a ramp out of that drain, not to jump ot but to keep the trucks from smashing into it if you ooops the landing. You would probably need to bring it every time though. Just a thought.

Not a bad idea, actually. 👍
I loved savega rc car
I think they should make an XXL to compete with the others 8s rigs...yes I know theres a cen reaper that is almost the same thing
What’s everyone recommending for the steering servo brands and KG rating for the savage xl .. I’m in Australia 🇦🇺
My maverick quantum flux lower front arm split in exactly same spot must be a hpi thing
Looking good, I always loved the way my Savage X Flux drives, looks like the XL follows the same.
What's the weather like?
Savij XXXL 💪💪💪💪
Just think, the servo was even worse with the bigger old terrapin tyres 😄

Oh God, that's terrible. LoL. Yeah, they need to step it up with better servo soon, this is just not good for a truck this big.
Must go crazy on 6s

Yeah, it's a little mental... 😁
Once you upgrade the servo you might find the servo saver spring is too weak as well as its designed for a 3kg servo 😐

I'll be sure to check it, thanks for the heads up. 👍 So far the X has been ok with the upgraded servo, so I'm hoping the XL will be much the same.

@@AussieRCPlayground OK, I know back in the day they used to do a stronger spring as an option
Aussie RC Playground always love ❤️ your videos you make me empty pockets and skit with no money left lol. But at the end of the day it's always a brilliant video a shame about the rear back dog bone came off the tyres should of not come un glue like that you only had it running for 10mins.

Thank you. Not to worry, new servo going in as we speak and rear upper link getting fixed. It'll be up and running before the night is over. 😉

@@AussieRCPlayground brilliant 👏👌
Use the v1 ones they never broke there must be weaker plastic
👋😁 👏👏👍✌️
Wow I've never split a top arm like that on a savage. They must have downgraded the plastic

Or it could be a freak breakage that's unlikely to repeat. Haven't had an issue yet with the X version, so let's hope this is a one-off. 🤞

@@AussieRCPlayground true. Hopefully that is the case
Nice looking and driving truck. The arms looking a bit fragile for a MT...and the pricepoint...hmm...
Tires look to small.
And that little silly break is exactly why most hard-core bashers stay away from HPI. For the price they are just not as strong as other RC's.
@neurofunk2731

Also they should've added a better servo!!! At this price

That's a little unfair as I constantly see people upgrading the crap out of ARRMA, TC and T-brand. That little break isn't what I'd call a "deal breaker" or a reason to stay away from HPI, I've done similar with other brands. I think the reason why hardcore bashers stay away is because of the price and parts availability. And because HPI haven't had a proper presence in the RC world for a few years now due to bankruptcy and change of ownership. Is this truck a reason for hardcore bashers to get one? Probably not, but neither was ARRMA when they first came on the scene with the V1 1/8 scale cars. And even after 5 versions, the hardcore bashers still upgrade the crap out of them (sometimes needlessly). So yeah, I understand where you're coming from, but I also don't see that as a fair comment. The new HPI owners are on a steep learning curve and are entering a very different market compared to what it was before things went pear-shaped for HPI, so to expect everything to be perfect right outta the gate, is a bit unrealistic.

@@AussieRCPlayground Vas, while I understand what your saying, by the very rational your speaking about, then $820 US, before tax, is outright unrealistic. At that price point, that truck should not need much for upgrades, especially day 1, servo etc. The shocks shafts are way too small, plus plastic housings are a joke. All the rod ends seem very small, thin and weak, will probably need upgrades, as well as many other areas on the truck. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to hate on HPI. I've been in the hobby since the original Savage X, back in 2006. I loved that truck, but it was ultimately a POS, as it was very easily broken. I had high hopes for this one. I love the monster truck platform, but for $820, with as weak as some of the parts are on this truck, this is a hard pass for me.

When it comes to value, we are at different ends of the spectrum. Over here the Sledge is by far the most expensive of the 1/8 scale bashers and according to some reports, it requires just as many upgrades as any ARRMA or TC car (or in this case, HPI). It's unfortunate that HPI ends up on top of the pricelist over there and not for good reasons, but T-brand holds that spot here by a fair gap. So yeah, I can see what you're saying about the Savage; if it has flaws, why does it have a premium price? That's a fair question and one only HPI can answer, I guess. 🤷🏼♂️

@@jive7777 I agree completely. I'm not hating on HPI at all. I have had many of their RC's over the years. For the price we see state side I expected way more and as far as upgrades and aftermarket is concerned, that should be a drivers choice not a requirement to even drive the RC. Trust me I have cursed my sledge each time I took it out when I first got it. Lol That RC is a big sore spot for me. The good thing about the arrma's, traxxas's etc is that there is an abundance of aftermarket support. You really don't see HPI at that level so even if I wanted to dump a few hundred more $$$ into a new HPI to upgrade it, I really can't unless I piece together custom parts somehow. I do like HPI and I do have my eye on some of their RC's if / when we can get them stateside as long as they aren't to expensive when they are available.
Great truck ruined by extrema high pricing
No excuse for the tires to come unglued that easily and you're o lying on 4s.....companies have to do better on these expensive trucks when it comes to tires. I often wonder what type of testing is done to insure reliability.........Great truck though
I wish HPI kits were still made in Japan or at least Taiwan. These Chinese made trucks are so LOW Quality.
6s in a seperate video 🤦🏻
