I listen to you at work in the mornings, but I do listen to you at home too. But I had a customer come in and when he got to the counter he said, “Cool, listening to Putnam!” I said, “ YES OMG I love him!” Two strangers talking about gardening and Jim Putnam!! I love it!!!

Perfect timing, I just got my agave from Plants Delights today. I wasn’t sure about planting it. So thank you for your informative videos. I watch you almost every day. I live in the same zone as you in Alabama so your videos are so helpful.

We were vacationing in Savannah several years ago and the house next door had a contain with a huge blue agave. I asked about it and was told to help myself to the babies underneath. There were two and I have loved having them in a planter, and paying it forward with the babies. Blue plants always make me happy!!!☺️

Some are hardy to zone 6 and 7 have a new Mexico agave for a few years zone 7 south New Jersey very sandy soil . The plants can take the cold it's the moisture in the cold winter that can can rot them. If you have a overhang or someway to keep.them drier under cover that helps

Zone 7b, Edmond, OK. 👏🌵👍Thank you for the planting instructions on the stunning, water-wise agave! I'm in my 3rd year establishing a water wise gravel garden in a very difficult area, and it is hard to find resources for these plants in zone 7. I'm sure it will come in handy for others.

Looks great there Jim! I'm always surprised to see how zone 8 plants will overwinter here in N. Georgia with the barest of protection as long as they can stay dry in winter. Hard to believe but a Vermillionaire Cuphea in a big container is popping up! We had an 18° night & it was just grouped with others under a story high porch. I LOVE when that happens 👼

Great looking plant! Never heard of permatill probably could have used that when I tried to grow Texas Sage in Oklahoma it did not like clay at all even amended. I enjoy hearing about where plants originated & find Southwest species very interesting.

Hello from So Cal! I garden in zone 9b. Ovatifolias are more likely to grow 5-6 ft wide which is why I don’t have any in my succulent garden beds. However, they are stunning! 🤩💙

I am growing Agaves indoors and can confirm they require well draining soils. Unfortunately in my Indiana zone 5b Agaves are not hardy here. There is one species widely touted hardy to -20°F Agave perryi that I am considering planting.

Jim- what is your opinion on pruning winter-damaged leaves on Agaves? I pruned our large blue agave for that reason in the backyard (zone 8a) and am kicking myself a little bit based on how it looks… thank you for all of the wonderful content and information! Your videos are the best!

Have you got snake plant/ mother-n-law tongue planted outside? If so does it winter over well? I am in SE TN and would love the strong structure they offer as well as the gorgeous Century Plant in the ground/bank.

Blue agave gets huge. They also absolutely hate being replanted once they start to mature after a couple years. Whats your plan for moving it after a coupl2 of years?

It is actually a tall buttercup (Ranunculus acris). Most people would call it a weed. It is non native, but literally everywhere. I let the bees have at them and then pull them. It is similar to our native marsh marigold.
