Awesome agate hunt in a New Zealand river - and I cut the rocks at the end! [Hinds river, NZ]
I headed down to one of the smaller rivers in Canterbury to look for some agates, petrified wood, and other gemstones. This river hasn't had much rain and there have been a large number of people looking for rocks in it so I was hoping I was lucky enough to find something!

My great uncle fell in love with NZ when I was a child and he would tell me all kinds of stories about it. Now I can see and hear it along with my favorite thing to do which is rock hunting! I’ve never seen the blue greenish agates you’re finding. So lovely!
I enjoy your river ramblings. I like your hands off saw.
Cool finds! It's so gratifying to see them cut, thanks!

Gosh I love agate hunting! I used to live at the Ashburton river mouth and the beach has tons of agates! You should go there at some point. I've found some really nice pieces there, plenty completely devoid of their host rock :)
I love agate. Every piece is so unique. Are there rocks there that fluoresce? Have you ever done any nighttime UV hunts? I’m noticing now the dimpled exteriors you explained to me that many pieces have. So the agate nodules form inside cooled/cooling magma pockets and then over time, erosion separates them?
Hi, some really nice finds, love the green one 🌟🍻

Thanks bro, that tiny green one is so cool!
Oh nice a second channel! Subbed here too. Come on! Where are you hiding your other channels?!! You probably have dozens! :) Peace - I love your adventures best!
What do you do with the rocks you cut? If a rock is too small do you tumble polish them? Love your videos! Stay safe
Subscribed. Sure I must have walked blind along prosperous hunting grounds. Even now I still don't even know what "Agate" is. Time to learn and google. Watch your videos and visit some promising geological formations. Again with opened up eyes.
Did not know you had this channel.

@@mamlamborocks the moss agates on birdling flat probably came from rangitata river.
Wow so many beautiful rocks! And the cuts reveal just how truly beautiful they are. Well most of them anyways! lol. But the majority of them really turned out to be really beautiful! What a wonderful hunt!

I enjoyed that day out on the Hinds with you and look forward to returning next year. Awesome video especially the slow motion of the daw cutting the rocks😊
The second to last was so pretty. It reminded me of clouds and ocean waves. But I get that it's not even close to normal agate standards xD Great video, thanks for the calming and interesting content
Any hints for river spots to check near Peel Forest and surrounds. It looks like the smaller rivers also hold a lot of agate.
Awesome finds! My favorite has to be the one at 17:12. I was wondering if you have more information on it, like what is causing the green, and is that type of agate found only in that area you hunted? I have never seen one like that so I find it very fascinating!!

Thanks bro!! I'm not sure what that green color is caused by, something about chromium rings a bell though.

@@mamlamborocks do you know what the teal material is in those agates? It looks so much like turquoise to me. Absolutely beautiful.

I really appreciate these rock videos too. Do you ever polish up these agates after cutting them? If yes, maybe you could make a follow-up video every year or so showing off some of year better rocks that polished up well. Thanks for sharing.

I've ordered some parts to make a vibra lap, I'll do a video on it if I do!
Please wet the agates you find every time when u show them. (carrying a spray bottle is useful if not close to the water) It makes a huge difference as a viewer. Thx

Hi was wondering what oil you run in your saw? I've just purchased an 18inch saw. That green agate is different. You never know what you may find inside.

I am just using mineral oil, its what I had on hand. I'm not sure I'd that is the best one to use. That 18" saw will be great!
Where did you find the relevant legal information in regards to taking objects from rivers?
Where do find all this agates from ,I just love to find rocks in Canterbury and agates in birdling flat’s.

The Birdlings Flat rocks come from the rivers as far as I know, so the ones south of the Rakaia (including the Rakaia).
Can you recommend someone who cuts agate in half in Christchurch city

If you ask on the facebook.com/groups/433087407069065 group, someone will know. Or go to the Christchurch mineral and lapidary club - it's $5 or something to use the workshop for a couple of hours. You just need to do a safety briefing.

I've still got lots to cut, thats just as exciting as ginding them! Have you considered slicing a crab into lots of bits that can be viewed in sections? That might be cool 😀

That's a good idea! I'd need a really thin blade for that 😀
Could you make marbles out of your agates?
