Description of Ford Mustang taken from Wikipedia "The first-generation Ford Mustang was manufactured by the Ford Motor Company from April 1964 until 1973. The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobile known as the pony car. The Mustang’s styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of imitators. It was initially introduced as a hardtop and convertible with the fastback version put on sale the following year. At the time of its introduction, the Mustang, sharing its underpinnings with the Falcon, was slotted into a compact car segment."

I was in middle school when the 1971 Fords were introduced in September 1970. While all GM operations were shut down by the UAW nationwide strike, Ford nailed it with Rod Serling, Mr. Twilight Zone himself, promoting the 1971 LTD Brougham. By Thanksgiving the new Fords were everywhere, like a FoMoCo takeover of the city! I swear, once people saw the entire rear-end of an LTD light up in traffic, it caused a stampede to every Ford dealership in town. Chevy dealers could only watch, and cry.

My Dad bought a ‘71 LTD Brougham 4 door. Power every thing, high back seats, and thick vinyl roof. It was quiet and plush. A travel trailer we were pulling had a blowout and flipped is on the LTD’s roof. All 5 of us survived.

  • @SirEpifire

@Amplass 333 Yeah if you had to daily one up in the rust belt, you'd really be hard pressed to keep them from rusting out. Lotta untreated metal inside weld seams. I think the best you could probably do (if you had the option) was a good oil bath for the undercarriage before and after the salty months. Honestly still good practice in the rust belt now!

Yes they would rust, but they weren't so terribly expensive. A guy could pick up a car for two or three year loan, trade the pink slip for new, now they're out to seven years for a reasonable payment.
