*UPDATE* Away no longer provides a dust bag, wall plug, and international adapter kit with their suitcases. This allows them to be more sustainable.

Sustainable. 🙂 As a customer I want certain things, I am going to buy them. If one compay doesn't offer them, I will get it elswehere. Sustainable = you need to hear *** We Want To Save More Money ***. 😂 It reminds me mobile phones companies, some of them stopped to offer chargers. If I do not have old one, I am going to buy it anyway. It is not going to change the planet. 😉

We have a cheap Costco Suitcase, and like it, but once it completely dies, I will definitely look into the Away brand suitcases.

I do not have the expandable version, but I believe it does not fit if it is expanded.

Do you have any thoughts on the Away Aluminum carry on bags?

The Aluminum carry on bags look nice but are a little bit heavier and have a slightly smaller storage capacity compared to the polycarbonate carry bags. The Aluminum bags also dent easily. So I prefer the polycarbonate suitcases for my travels.

Does the bigger carry on fit in the overhead bins on American?

Yes, it should fit in most planes that American Airlines uses. I don’t say all planes because there is always a chance with any airline that the flight may have a really small plane. In those cases, most carryons don’t fit anyway.

Have you had any issues with using this bigger carry-on on international flights? Any times where they made you check it? I am trying to decide between the away carry-on and the away bigger carry-on. Thanks!

I have not had any issues personally putting the bigger carry-on in the over head bin of any of my flights, but I am mainly flying on U.S. airlines when flying internationally. I have flown with Delta from Atlanta (ATL) to Rome (FCO) with no issues using the overhead bin. It is the smaller planes, especially with European budget airlines, that you would potentially have the issue. My advice would be to look at what the type of flights you take most often. If you are flying domestically (within U.S.) or international flights that mainly consist of flying from the U.S. to other countries (and vice versa), then I would suggest the bigger carry-on. You will enjoy having the little bit of extra space for your items. If you take a lot of flights that are with non-U.S. airlines, then you might want to consider the standard carry-on suitcase as they are more strict with size. I have never regretted going with the bigger carry-on!

Hmm, I am not sure what the issue is. The link has worked recently for others and I haven't hit the limit of 5 referrals that Away places on their program. I am sorry that I couldn't be more helpful.

Good question! Unfortunately, I do not have a promo code, only the referral link: referrals.awaytravel.com/away2577 Somethings to note, the referral discount only applies to suitcases or bags not any of the accessories. The discount should show up at checkout once you’ve entered your email address and continue onto the shipping details. Also, it only works if you are in the same country as me, which is the U.S. I apologize if it does not work for you. Well this is frustrating. I wonder why the link isn't working. I am not receiving any other compensation from Away. However, I did just post on Twitter (@katierockey) a referral link through Away's website. You can try that link to see if it works to get the discount.

Thank you for letting me know! I have reached out to Away to see if they have placed any additional limitations on their referral program. I know that you have to be in the same country as me (U.S.), be a first-time customer, and be purchasing a suitcase or bag that is at least $125. I will let you know if I hear back from Away. It might be a day or two. I don't know how long they take to respond.
