After seeing an influx of fellow lolita accidentally getting replicas and the rise of replica pieces on the market I figured this would be a useful video to try to help minimise your chances of getting replicas pieces.
While more for newer members who aren't aware of replicas this may also apply to more seasoned lolitas who are changing substyles and aren't aware of the common replicated pieces.
Ways to unintentionally obtain a replica
- Buy one from someone who does not disclose its a replica (Facebook, pop-up shops, taobao etc - intentional deception vs unintentional)
-Get given one for free (and not be told it's a replica).
Summary - how to protect yourself :
- If in doubt ask the 'What is that dress?" fb page, ask comm members or even reach out to a lolita mentor if your unsure about the dress you're going to buy.
-Request proof pics of labels (brand tag and wash brand tag - not a foolproof method but can assist in authentication)
- Use common sense - if the price is too good to be true it probably is - or at least you should cross-check.
