Teyo is one of my favorite characters. They wrote his character so well. He's calm, confident, and kind. He is empathetic to Aangs emotions. I'm an everyday wheelchair user. I love how they wrote his disability. It's part of his life but not the main focus. He's fleshed out as a person. They did a lot with him in 20 mins

Agreed. He can't walk, but so what? He can fly. If you can fly, but you can't walk, I'm willing to bet you could get pretty good at the later. In a way, flying to him is more natural than traversing the ground, and he seems to be one of the best fliers in this group, the other kids are cheering his name, he's their "leader." When Aang shows up it establishes a kind of rivalry between them initially, like which of these kids is the more skilled "pilot," and anyone who can give the Avatar (the last airbender) a run for their money must be pretty darn good. Maybe Toph is a spiritual successor to Teo. She can't see, but she can see everything, she just doesn't see the same way the others do. Only someone like Toph could become such a master and develop such radical skills that nobody else could come up with, because she didn't have an alternative. If you can't see, you have no choice but to get your bearings through other means, and in her case she found arguably a way even better than with sight.

Fun fact: The Mechanist is voiced by Rene Auberjonois, who also voiced the Gan Jin tribe leader in "The Great Divide". He is perhaps best known as Odo the shapeshifter from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

This episode is so well done. Because there are legitimate good cases on both Aang's viewpoint and the settlers. Aang has a little more weight in the spiritual stuff since that's all real in this world, but to what purpose does it serve to a people that are no longer around when it's needed to shelter a new settlement. Especially one that forced into that situation due to imperialism and war.

they mostly talk past one another tho. the fundamental issue isn't that they're there, but that they're disrespectful of the airbender culture, and i doubt they'll be making any more effort to preserve that stuff going forward.

The circle around the mechanist's eye was not supposed to be a monocle. It was supposed to be a burn mark from a steam powered telescope. But the animators accidentally drew in an eyepiece, so they changed it.

I still think about that theory that the natural gas comes from the supposed piles of excrements/wastes/decomposing bodies they have to store from the bottom the temple, since they had no proper way of to store any of that stuff if they have settled into that air temple of so long. That would explain as to why they're doing the construction to make a bathhouse.
