@@huntersmith1943 oh definitely not, the Geneva Convention didn’t get put in effect until WWII was already underway. I mean the one that everyone always refers to didn’t but their are others, the earliest being 1864. As war tech developed they had to update it several times. But the point is that in the Avatar universe the Geneva Convention wouldn’t be in place since the 100 Year War seems to be taking place in a more ancient time. There’s no guns but there are swords and shields, catapults and bows and arrows. It seems to be more traditional warfare.

@@linenotter It's why gas is called the silent killer, because it's undetectable otherwise. Sadly if you're in a gas leak and don't detect it right away, your sense of smell can get used to it and unless someone else outside of it enters and chimes in, it can quickly build to deadly levels. If you're curious why some kitchens and restaurants have such industrial-level venting, that's one reason why! Only symptom is slight trouble breathing, faintness, and feeling like you need to sleep (which is how most people die, in their sleep).

I see a lot of people fail to understand this, so I'll nip it in the bud now just in case. This man INVINTED air travel in this world. Up until this point in the show, the only way you could travel to other nations was by land or by sea. Only airbenders were capable of air travel before this. So yeah, the father(also Sokka, but mostly the dad) in this episode basically invented blimps, hot-air balloons, and even fucking Zeppelins to give to the fire nation for their war effort. If we ever see the Far Future of this world with airplanes and shit? We'll be able to look back on this episode and say we know the guy who invented air travel. Man has LITERALLY made history.

Exactly, this is so different from retrofitting an abandoned temple from any other of the nations, this is 1 of the 4 locations where the nomads lived and since they're all gone, the last remnants of their culture. I feel like this show failed to keep that perpective. Sure, you can move into a place that's no longer in use, but not when you're destroying the only records of a quarter of an extinct people's history.

@@Cole_McGill well yeah but look at it like this, why did they move in? to escape the war, did they have a clue the war would end one way or another next summer? no, most of those people's parents were born with the war already going on, for all they know the war was gonna keep going after they died, what excesses did they build? the elevators systems are there because they could all fly, and so their architecture is designed around that, the bathouse is actually the least wasteful way of getting people that high hygene that didn't require going down the mountain, the gas chamber was put there because there was a leak already, the secret armory closet, that one was actually unnecessary, and lastly is preserving 1/4th (tho it's actually closer to half in a way) of a dead culture more important than preserving one that is still alive right now? granted they couldn't quite scape the fire nation but they took being blackmailed as an acceptable thing to persecution, that point you could argue go find another place but sometimes you just take the blackmail i said half because air nomads would migrate S-N, N-S and E-W, W-E but never N-E or stuff like that, and it would be divided in genders, the women lived at W and E and men lived in N and S so this already means that if this temple and something happened to the south temple that would be actually half the culture gone, the math still ads up to 25% (sorry if i wrote anything wrong or weirdly, or stupidly even, i haven't slept all night and i was fine but writing this made me sleepy as hell)

This means the Geneva Conventions cannot be applied to him, and thus he cannot be a war criminal. However, what would be applied in this case is local law. The Earth Kingdom has no unified laws, leaving each settlement to govern themselves. This means Airwalker law applies, and since no one is upset it appears they have no false flag crimes. Non Spoiler/Comic Related Context: There actually we’re quite a few Airbenders left alive after the initial genocide. Since the Air Nomads were a wandering group by nature, there were several Airbenders that weren’t at the temple’s during the attack. In response to this revelation, the Fire Nation would create fake Air Nomad shrines in order to lure out the stragglers and execute them, though it’s widely believed that some Nomads just gave up their lives as Airbenders completely and decided to integrate with the culture of whatever Nation they were near at the time of the attack, this theory is supported by a certain few characters to be revealed later on in season 2 of AOT and season 3 of Legend of Korra.

Was this in the comics? I don't really like them but that's how I theorised, there is no way ALL nomads were killed. There is someone in s2 who I hc to have air nomad in their blood. With their hair color and eyes and the way they fight and the way they behave. Also we later know that it is important for bending to think like a bender and like an element. Freedom is air, being forced to give up their way of life and their freedom would make the future generations being unable to bend. And that's why after the end of the war the airbenders would slowly appear, having their freedom returned. (I deny LoK's existence and their way of dealing with it was extra stupid)

I think it all comes down to the situation and context right, we all know preserving a culture is one of the most important things but if you think about how these people are war refugees who found a tall place that seemed inaccessible to the fire nation it becomes hard to blame them for remodeling to make the architecture meant for flying people work for them and to have an easier life in what to their best of their knowledge they were born with a war going on, their parents might only have memories of war times and for all they know the war is not stopping any time soon, preserving an alive culture supercedes preserving 1/4 of a culture (maybe more like half since air nomads migrated temples based on their gender, male benders would go to the north and south and females would migrate between west and east so it's not like they rotated between all the temples and within each one you could find the totality of their culture) one could say they had excesses with the bathhouse but actually bathhouses ARE actually the efficient least wasteful way of providing people with hygiene, especially that high up

I dont think the inventor designed the tanks. Or I would rather he didn't. Because it's the only explanation how the Fire Nation hundred years ago was able to reach the Air temples without war balloons. Tanks fired gripping hooks just like in this episode, pulled themselves up and massacred the monk population. The strongest Airbenders like monk Gyatso maybe put up some last stand in the temple and we saw he took countless soldiers with him in death.

This is spoilers so Nani no Anime, don't read this, and only read this if you've watched the whole show: . . . I know Ruff and Boom are only joking about Zutara but I really don't get why people ship them in the timeframe of Atla. They are enemies for 50 of the 61 episodes. In some of them, Katara threatens to kill Zuko on the spot. Like why would I date my enemy? I know why people ship it, for the aesthetics. Red and blue, fire and water, He was sunshine and she was midnight rain. All that. But their storylines do not match that. I would never want to date a person that I have that kind of rivalry, I would want them dead. In later moments in the story, after the Great War, sure, but those years are largely a mystery. But in the timeframe of the show? No.

He had every right to be angry with them. They were extremely disrespectful to the temple and it’s history. Punching holes through walls and destroying statues. If they can’t show any respect then they shouldn’t be there. They can’t just destroy everything in the temple like that.

Aang was justified in his anger on many things though. Not only destroying important cultural objects, but using the air temple to invent weapons for the people who wiped out the air nomads in the first place. Ultimate disrespect. I get why the scientist guy did it, but it wasn't wrong for Aang to be upset.

It's an awesome show starring an all-star cast from Jack DeSena (Sokka), Sean Schemmel (Goku), Stephanie Sheh (Hinata Hyuga from Naruto), and many, many more. The animation is clean, the colors are eye-catching, the fights are immaculate, and best of all... the story works perfectly.
