We're in the FINAL STRETCH! From here on out expect our ATLA eps to drop Wednesdays and Sundays! We lose our shit for the next 3 episodes so become a $5 patron at Patreon.com/SeanTanktop and check out Ep 18 right now!!
i think the show is actually pretty consistent at portraying aang as the member of the group who's most dishonest. it starts in episode one, when he tells katara he doesn't know what happened to the avatar. on several occasions, we see that aang is very quick to make up stories, for example during their trip to omashu. (bonus points for katara for being very smooth in following his lead.) unlike sokka, aang is not upset by the stolen waterbending scroll. aang immediately realizes that the "solution" for the volcano is to reshape the clouds to trick aunt wu. aang hides the map from bato, sokka, and katara. there's definitely a pattern here.

Aang being kind of liar is a personality thing but it's even connected to his element. This sort of evasive non-confrontational aspect to air. Oh wow, I saw a video on H3 yesterday of an air gliding instructor who didn't secure his passenger and he was straight handing form the bar. Terrifying.
MORGAN! BELLY LAUGH "Then they'll sell their tanks to the local police department" i literally screamed
That's the special thing about Avatar the last airbender, the show constantly gets better, constantly builds on itself with every season, and unlike game of thrones, it has a satisfying ending that leaves you feeling complete. For a so called "kids show," Avatar is one hell of a journey
"Are these children murdering the soldiers.." well yes and also no. This is a kid show but also not a kid show.

I'll never NOT be impressed with how this show seamlessly incorporated elements of industrial revolution into the worldbuilding, and they did it properly. It's not hamfisted and it actually makes sense according to the geography and which nation would likely have made these technological feats first. Like, as a history nerd, slowly picking up on these details when i re-watched as an adult was a lot of fun.

"elder millennials are the first generation to look down on the younger kids and be like, oh, they're better than us" in fairness, generation x have proven to be, compared to other generations, bad parents and bad caretakers for the world. it's no wonder that we millennials have struggled. by contrast, our own kids are more loved and better taught, thus less burdened by their upbringing than we are, and filled with an urgency to fix everything generation x has broken. we shouldn't feel bad that the next generation is more put together than we are; we should feel proud. we did something right.

Good lesson, good action, and a set up for something that’ll eventually pay off. Yup, that’s Dave Filoni.
The Fire Nation definitely would be using those tanks to flex like a bunch of Karens: (static) "Pick up after your pet bison! Dammit!" (static) "Keep off the grass, you tattooed hippy!" (static) "Holy Crap! *THAT'S THE AVATAR!"*

Two, so we don’t have to skimp on scenes. There’s too much good stuff. If I combine them I’ll have to sacrifice more reactions in the edit Cuase of the 10 min limit. We watch the original discs and those had a credit sequence on Ep 19 so We’ll be doing them as aired.

Hahahahaha for sure!!!
This is the one episode in the entire series I disagree with. I think it's excellently done and the battle is incredible but the message just doesn't hit right for me. Aang was totally in the right. Those people didn't have to destroy everything to live there. They were at the point they were destroying it to build luxuries rather than necessities. I feel like this episode doesn't quite understand how important culture is, especially when it comes to things like genocide. There's a million specific points I could touch on, but overall, I just wish that it had ended with the mechanist helping to rebuild the temple or smth and choosing to modernize it and make it livable without actively destroying it more than necessary.
Can you spot the warcrime? No, not that. Not that, either. Flying/sailing under a false flag in war is a war crime. (I mean, f* the firenation, but still. ;)

If Aang hadn't disappeared a 100 years ago he could have stopped the war, and so there wouldn't be refugees living in the temple and doing all that sacrilegious stuff in the first place.
