Automower Answers: New Transformer (Power Supply) For 450X & 450XH Automowers!

Фильм және анимация

If you've owned a 450X for more than a year, then you've probably experienced a transformer/power supply failure. This has been a topic that comes up quite a bit in online forums and groups because it is an expensive part to replace and Automower owners worry about what will happen when their warranty expires. So finally Husqvarna has made a complete overhaul to the power supply for the 450X/450XH Automowers. The new power supply is a bit smaller than the original style power supply and looks more like the power supply for the 430X/430XH models. It does not have the big white label on it with all of the important information and part numbers. Instead all of that info is molded right into the transformers housing. Another big difference is in the mounting holes. If you have your power supply mounted on a post or on a wall by your charging station, then you will have to make at least one new hole because the hole spacing in the new power supply is narrower than the ones in the original style power supply. These new transformers are currently available from Husqvarna as replacement parts. They will be added to new units as a running change, but depending on the amount of leftover inventory in warehouses and at dealers, it could be a while until you see them in the box with new units at your local Automower dealership. As for the 430X/430XH power supply, we have not seen a revised or updated version yet. But there's a good chance that will eventually be happening. For whatever reason, power supply failures seem to be more common with the units for the 450X and 450XH mowers. But at least now all of you that have experienced a power supply failure with your 450X or 450XH can relax knowing that there is a new version out there that SHOULD hold up better than the previous version of power supply.

Thank you again for another very informative video I have had two power supplies fail Right before each failed I would get random loop signal errors and then that error would go away but within a couple days the power supplies we completely fail I suggest anyone getting loop errors randomly check their power supplies

I would like to point out that amperage numeric value, which is printed on the power supply, constitutes MAXIMUM amperage, which power supply can handle. Actual amperage flow is determined by load resistance (in this case battery pack internal resistance) and since both (430X and 450X) models are using 28 VDC power supply, consumer can use 450X power supply to charge 430X and vice versa (430X power supply might not withstand 450X charging and get destroyed, since 450X is demanding more current than 430X power supply can provide) as long as polarity (plus and minus wire in DC input) is the same. And yes, 430X power supply is trash - almost three years into using, it failed and unrepairable (power supply inside is potted in epoxy resin). All in all, I ordered slightly more powerful (28 VDC 5.4 A, voltage can be regulated) repairable power supply from China under 20 USD. In reality Automower 430X Li-ion battery charges up to 20.5 VDC (4.1 V per element) and demands up to 22 VDC from power supply (anything over this voltage gives an error message: "Charging current too high").

Good point. That was exactly what I was going to say. The extra amp capacity should not cause a problem.

@@wlambert43 That depends on the charging circuit. Rumour has it that the charging depends on the resistance of the cable; that's why the manual say the cable between power supply and base should not be cut shorter or longer. Or perhaps they are just afraid we can't see the white marking on the positive and might put the wrong polarity into the base.

I had a power supply failure on my 450XH. The dealer replaced it with Husqvarna Article No: 590 44 25-04 which has you indicated is without the white label and inscribed directly into the power supply. So I think this should be okay and I should be good to go. Thank you very much for posting this as my 450XH is only 6 weeks old and I was quite disappointed when the power supply failed so quickly. Yes they warrantied the power supply.

Thank you for this video and taking the time and effort to record/edit all your videos. They are quite helpful in helping learn more about my automower. I just bought my 450HX and started using it this spring. I did not know about the Power supply failing. Mine came with the older model. How long can I expect mine to work on average before I should expect mine to fail? Thank you.

Hi, I have a 2016 430x automower, I have replaced both wheel bearings and the power supply so far , And now the mower is starting to puzzle me , it does not seem to recognise my zone settings anymore , it will just randomly mow anywhere and quite often end up running out of charge out on the lawn and not make it back to the charging station, it still has my zone settings in the menu, It will also stop every now and then and say no loop signal, I will switch it off and on and start again and it will go again , any ideas as to what might be wrong ? Thank you

Off topic, why does the automower only use a fraction of the cutting blade? My 450XH's basically use only 1/4 of the blade.

The new endurance blades that Husqvarna has come out with will (or should) solve this issue. They will have a slot in the center of them instead of just a single hole at one end. This will let them rotate and swing out further and use more of the blade.

My transformer/charger went south on me and I will have to replace it. Could it be because i have it in a small "garage" I made for my Automower 450x? What kind of ventilation should it require to keep the charger from failing?

Was it the old white labeled transformer, or was it the new style like shown in this video? Also, does your mower garage have a door on it that closes when the mower pulls in? We've seen several cases of the mower getting too hot inside of mower houses with doors that completely enclose the mower.

@@EshlemaniaTV It was the white label version. The garage door does close completely. Based on your comment, I will add more ventilation to the Automower garage before the new power supply arrived. Thanks.

I don't think that's how current works. If the voltage and resistance are the same, it doesn't matter how big the PSU is or how much current it can handle. V = I/R so I = R/V, if voltage and resistance stay the same then current will stay the same.

If you put a mower that uses a 4.2 amp transformer in a charging station that uses a 7 amp transformer it will almost immediately give an error saying the charging current is too high

ya I have been using my 430 Power supply to charge my 450x..due to the manufacture in UAS (lying to me) sending me the wrong replacement station saying it was a 450X (it only has 2 guide loops)

I remember you telling me about that. Shoot me an email and tell me again how that all came about. I'll get you hooked up with the right parts.
