Automotive Wiring Diagrams & Service Info

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The question I get asked the most is "Where do I get all of my free wiring diagrams and service information?" Well I wish it was free! The truth is, just like any other shop I pay hundreds of dollars a month just for service information, not including OEM and aftermarket scan tool subscriptions. The good news is, DIY options and OEM short term subscriptions are available to you! Is it free? Nope.... -Enjoy!

Terrific info here. Whenever I buy a beater, I usually put up the money for some sort of manual - Haynes, Chilton's, etc. When one of "my kids" (read not my child, but I consider her one of the family) asked for help with her vehicle last summer, I bought a one year subscription for that vehicle. Just being searchable rather than thumbing through the book was great and worth it. The subscription for one year was around the same (or slightly less) than buying the physical book and I was confident in the procedures and specs rather than just googling stuff (head gasket job). Worth it, IMO. I'm a "weekend warrior" when it comes to car repairs and such and I always like to use google, youtube, forums, etc. for issues, but you get what you pay for.

ONE of your most IMPORTANT videos.I realize you like to teach people how to fix cars, and your videos do just that for the most part. But most of the time people watch you just to hear you talk and pretend they are your customer in your shop watching you work on their cars.Which is also the reason we miss MRS>O.We don't get to go in the office and pay our bill. And take a tootsie pop from the glass bowl on the counter.haha, for free. The diagrams and information you are talking about is so valuable,it's like trying to drive across the USA without a MAP or GPS.YEAH you could follow the sun and eventually you'll make it,but at night all your going to hear IS BANJO MUSIC when you roll your windows down!!! Yes,you need to do that when you're running a business & paying yourself as well as any employees to save time & make money. I am fixing my brothers 2000 model Subaru Forester up at the moment as it has an idle hunting issue & his local mechanic told him to take it somewhere else as his OBD2 scan tool wouldn't communicate with the cars ECU. The point is it being an Australian model it's actually OBD 1.5 compliant, not OBD 2 compliant,so I did get the information for free by digging around in one of the Subaru forums, there are black & green diagnostic connectors which need to be connected up in order to get the code to flash through the check engine light so I did that & I got a code 54 which is either an air intake or choke system fault. The engine needs a new idle air control valve which is also thermally controlled by coolant temperature, the ECU is setting the code while the throttle position switch is in the closed throttle position but excess air is entering the engine,I've ordered a new one for $48 AUD,it has no air leaks because I checked with carburetor cleaner & unplugging the idle air control valve makes no difference. I've often had trouble getting that confirmed in Australia because I had trouble with finding information on my Holden VY SS Commodore which runs the 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine, all GM Holden says is GMs tech 2 unit will read the codes which may be stored on the PCM. No one would tell me which aftermarket scan tool would read my cars PCM,no one told me that the car needs to be manually entered into the scan tool to read the codes because it's not an auto scanning model of car. I did buy a Bosch scan tool which is meant to scan Australian model cars but I had to enter mine as a US car & a 5.7 litre V8 6 speed manual 2002 model Chevrolet Camaro for it to read the codes,no Australian models were listed on the Bosch scan tool. So I'm doing better than a lot of mechanics are over here with that stuff yet I wouldn't run a business like that !

SON OF MONTEZUMA So you’re saying there a lot of KZread hack shops out there. I couldn’t agree more. I use shop key pro though my price just went up after the first year so I’m looking or will be calling as I’m just one man army vs other shops with many techs getting the same pricing. It’s not like they can’t eve that I use it less than others. They should average shop price it based off amount of users imho. Others have first year trials so looking at going that way or cancelling & using the per vehicle method and charging customer that way. This way I pass the true cost of the repair information on.

I got my butt kicked toward the end by intermittent failing spark plug wires. The misfire counter led me right to the issue. I used all data for free at my library. We get the first 100 pages for free. Every time we go there. The pin out charts let me check the o2 heater circuit resistance on the existing o2 sensors at 6k. The cheap ebay o2 sensor checked at 10k. Giving me a p059 code. Your comedic approach in a no nonsese attitude, makes your videos thoroughly enjoyable. Now all my friends know what an ugga dugga is. Helped me find the cause of crank/no-start when hot and parked for more than 10 minutes. Found a badly designed fuel pump relay that didn't close properly when hot (bi-metal effect). The thing about that calculation about repairs costing more than the value is that yes, you could go buy another vehicle instead, but especially with older vehicles, that would only put you into another junker with who knows what issues. At least if you pay for that repair, hopefully that part of the vehicle would be good for a while. If your vehicle is otherwise in good condition it may be worth paying more than its theoretical value to fix it.

G'day Eric. I've recently discovered your channel and your videos are so engrossing that I have a new problem! I've been watching machine shop videos for a few years but now I'm behind in my viewing because I can't get enough of yours! In my career as a machine doctor I taught the importance of the basics to equipment reliability. So it's great to see you also apply the basics when chasing a fault. I didn't know that these sources of information existed until I started watching your videos. And I didn't know that I needed a whole bunch of new tools (yay!). You've got me all excited about fixing cars again. And I have a new appreciation of my Maxidas DS708. When I bought it I didn't think it did much so I was a bit disappointed. And there was no guidance other than how to set it up and press buttons. But I realise now that you need to know how to do diagnostics, and where to get the info you need. And you've helped me with both of those. So many thanks for that and your EXCELLENT videos. Keep 'em coming.
