I have it on my Evo 1 and mentioned it in another one of these vids and dobo said it was a hardware issue😂 Another dude thought I was making it up. Yes, the Evo 1 to this day, with every update done, still has horizon tilt. It's just something the engineers at Autel can't figure out. And they have the nerve to charge what they are charging for this new one. When the smoke clears and the "newness" of this drone wears off, people will finally start to see that the Evo 2 is not a good product in comparison to DJI and Autels own Evo 1, especially for the price. Autel really dropped the ball with this drone.

Also only once or twice have I had props in shot, really strong wind and hard right and yes they showed for a few seconds... but that's been it, 4 months old, about 30 miles flown.. so must be down to individual drones and how they were originally setup, must be a mechanical problem as if software or firmware they would either have fixed it or had a solution, mechanical and more problematic, shim in wrong place, something not located correctly at the factory, they need a good one and bad to compare side by side... R B Actually the copper cups or signal boosters are exactly like the big antenna dishes we shoot out in space. The antennas signal that shoots behind it is redirected towards the front or to the drone. I haven’t received mine yet but I hear they work pretty well, hopefully. Hey Ken. Great vid. Distance tests beyond where you should even legally fly make no sense to me so I like yours as being "Real use". I guess the only other thing that matters is how long you can stay at that range before having to return. If you have to head back the second you got there to make it back and not lose the drone you should be closer otherwise what's the point if you have no time to actually video anything. I have never had horizon issues like that with my EVO 1. I wonder how yours got so jacked. You have had good horizon in earlier vids from it. Maybe something wrong with the gimble? Curious to hear if you figure it out. I would love to know what you find if you do. Stay safe man!

It's an issue for my co's drones. We have M2P, Evo, P4P etc. Any of the Mavic style drones flying around the east coast of FL in the everyday 15-20 mph winds agl and 35+ mph at 300' altitude will have tilt problems as you yaw. Doesn't matter which. These small drone gimbals are getting a beat down in those kind of winds we see far more common than on the Gulf side. There is a settling down period for the gimbals once tilted, and often times you may have to yaw in the opposite way to speed up the gimbal roll recovery. We flew a good part of last week into 40 mph winds. Doing orbits, and Waypoints we had to address the issues on M2P and Evo several times. On the ground level, winds were 18 mph and the guys filming with Weebill S and Ronin S gimbals for dslrs were fighting the same issues. Those gimbal motors are 40x the strength of gimbal motors on these drones. The cameras and lenses are also quite often much much heavier on the hand stabilizer gimbals. The hardware of these drones gets beat up in high winds. These are not very strong motors at all. At times in higher winds regardless of drone, we fly with gimbal roll adjustment on screen making corrections if needed. The telemetry data is on the controller, so it's not needed on the screen of the app. The P4P however did the best with less tilt, however it did jump altitude about 7x on an orbit mode as the wind just battered the thing around. We still got the jobs done with all of the drones. For the Waypoints, we were happier with the EVO since the 94 degree FOV on the camera aided our coverage a lot more than the 77 deg on the Mavics. I think the newer Evo 2 is about 80 degree FOV, which means we will still use the Evo 1 for a lot of our work. . The BIGGEST pros for Evo are no problems with NFZ or flight restrictions, and that ultra wide 94 deg FOV has a ton of coverage meaning you get a lot more image detail at closer range. The clarity of the camera on the Evo 1 is still some of the best I have seen in any drone. Take the good with the bad on any drone you buy

Not saying this is a bad drone or doesn’t match up but I’m glad I didn’t sell my Mavic 2 Pro & upgrade to Evo2. I feel good with what I have comparatively and don’t see any need for my needs to have 6K and I sure don’t see many uses for 8K. Very nice drone however and I’m glad Autel is pushing the envelope. It only makes it better for the consumer to keep DJI in check and realizing there is competition.

I wouldn't write this drone off because of one range test. It likely needs firmware tweaks which Autel will get to. Most new products need firmware changes before they reach a mature state and hit their full potential. When I first bought my Mavic Air, the thing wouldn't fly down the beach without signal dropout. By the time the 2nd round of firmware hit, I could range ships almost 2 miles out with full FPV in HD. Instead of focusing on max distance, which nobody should be using anyway, how about battery life? Landing after a 5-6 mile roundtrip flight with 13 minutes remaining is excellent. The Evo 1 was already a 30 minutes machine (25 min useable) and the Evo 2 just added a good 10-12 minutes to that mark!

Thanks, Ken. Loved the info. Still....not sold yet on the EVO 2. And yeah, I do own the Evo 1. And the horizon tilt is just something I've learned to adjust at the start of each flight and learned to live with. Great to see you guys hanging out, too. 1st time for me to see what Drone Worship looks like.

@@JRthepyroguy Liked I mentioned, I'll get it up there, look at the picture, and start manually adjusting the tilt. For the rest of the flight, that will usually keep it even. Unless you do a banking turn. It will take a few seconds to recover from the turn, but when it does it's usually still even. Bring it back, pop in another battery and it should still be good for the next flight. On a different day, different location, get ready to do it all over again.

It’s total b.s. as I never am more than 250 above ground , but I used that additional altitude to ascend the mts around me. Autel is turning into another dji, unrestricted flight my ass!

I won’t say they changed anything again, as I likely missed it after my default set 1640 limit occurred, but there is the option on the Evo 1 to change the limit back to the original ceiling , something like 2600 feet. I really don’t think I could change it at first, but I could be mistaken on that part. I know I complained to autel because that higher limit serves me well where I live and the very reason I bought an Evo. I figure others did as well, that may have prompted making it an option. Either way I was very glad to find I could go back to the original ceiling.

Exactly! To me, there's a difference between how Ken and these guys did this. They were applying safety and risk management to this test. Some people see these Dustin Dunhill videos exhausting the battery to 0% and still flying and go out and do dumb shit. I wish people would realize that you are not taking "epic" video by flying straight and level for max distance. That video is boring as Hell. Other than people testing connection quality and video signal, there's no point in it. I fly out a mile/1.5 miles away in some cases over water to overfly a ship in the bay or to an inaccessible statue up on a peak but there will always be clowns who stand in their backyard and think it's a good idea to fly 2 miles away with their Mavic 2 Pro over a suburban area. That is why the FAA keeps bringing more rules into the mix!

@@dre8134 I like to test and know the limits of my gear, as well. Dustin's videos are entertaining for certain and I appreciate that he takes the chances with drones that most people won't/shouldn't. My point was that there are way too many low-information drone flyers that see or hear about 9 KM range capability and that's all they want to do is fly their M2P as far away as it will go. That bullshit is the reason for many accidents. I fly helicopters in and out of busy urban areas and deal with idiot drone operators frequently. I fly drones, too, both as a hobbyist and commercially but I do it with common sense. We had a moron crash his Phantom into the Zoo not too long ago in the Zebra exhibit. Dipshit was on his balcony drinking with his buddies and chasing animals around at the zoo. Dick moves like that don't help our cause much!

Just want to say love your videos but this is definitely not one of your Forte's.. is really no point of you doing a range test.. if you're not going to test the full range.. maybe if you were doing a range test in the city with lots of interference. People in a wide-open area want to see how far the Drone can go.. if you're not going to do that then there's no point of this video... A lot of range tests the signal breaks up a little bit that's because of little bit of interference and then you can go further and it clears up quickly and you can even go an extra mile.. so when he breaks up in 2 miles that doesn't really mean anything especially in open-air. what these guys mean is that there are plenty of other drone reviewers that push them to the limits with range tests. And they never get in trouble.. like that guy Dustin Hill... the absolute best range test you can get. he takes it to the limit and to the battery is almost dead. Yeah I know it's not your fine.. but that's what people are looking for.. and that's what makes people watch taking risks. Some people take them and they say it's worth it.. THEY WANT TO KNOW HOW FAR THE DRONE GOES IN A REAL-WORLD SITUATION!! IT'S A SIMPLE AS THAT!! and for the record I feel like the real reason why they do not want people going beyond the line of sight is because they're trying to control the idiots out there.. the ones that are irresponsible.. They're not worried about the responsible drone people who act professional.. It's like a general rule in my opinion because they don't want idiots going to be on the line of sight doing stupid things because they're careless. It's just damage control.. they figure if you say you can't go beyond the line of sight they know it's going to stop a lot of people from doing so.. they damn well know people are going to go beyond the line of sight. It's almost like putting up a stop sign in a place every time there's a problem. THEY'RE JUST TRYING TO CONTROL THE IRRESPONSIBLE IDIOTS WITH THAT LINE OF SIGHT RULE.. and FYI I have never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever seen anyone get in trouble for going beyond the line of sight. Have you? Have you ever seen anyone get a fine? Maybe I'm wrong but I've never seen an issue.. and I think it's few and far between people who have any problems with going to be on the line of sight because of return to home as long as you understand the wind, and listen to your low battery warning. Another words I've seen tons of people going to be on the line of sight with range test but losing your drone is very low-risk especially with DJI.. If you're making money it's worth that risk to some.. and I'm glad that they do it. I want to know what my drone can do without breaking it... One of the biggest reasons why KZread is so popular..

Agreed with that 2.5 mile distance, you lose it at that distance - let's you go get it!! Horizon being "off" was not new for Dan this weekend as we had a similar problem. Autel seems to be putting out a solid product from what I'm seeing so far.

How did you come to the conclusion that Autel is putting out a "solid product"? It has horizon tilt like the 1st one, camera is no better than the 1st one, goes the same distance as the 1st one, uses the exact same controller as the 1st one, and it's bigger and heavier than the 1st one. And to top it off, it's between $1,500-$1,800 with extra batteries costing over $200 a pop.

@@christianpesox I bet the M3P will cost $2500, and batteries $250 or more. Currently, Evo batteries are $85, $75 or so on sale... and M2P batteries are $145 (avg price) and have a similar flight time for us. Horizon tilt we get with M2P as well. It just is a common issue with the drone if it pushes against a headwind or crosswind. These drones physically TILT hard in certain winds on hard yaw especially. They can tilt so much that the gimbal can't recover quickly enough until the drone itself levels back out. Then the gimbal roll settles down. In an area with low winds it might not be an issue. Here in the Space Coast of FL, it's common to have 20+ mph winds daily at 200 ft alt, and gusts of 40 are common. I can take either craft just outside over the Indian River here and watch the drones tilt back and forth in the wind in a hover. Flying in those winds constantly shifting beats the gimbals up pretty hard.

@@miketipton678 That is some good mental gymnastics you performed there!😂 1st, did you just compare the sale price of the Autel battery to the regular battery price of the Mavic 2 series? As an adult, I seriously hope you understand the fallacy in that argument. 2nd, will the MP3 be $2,500? I don't know, but I seriously doubt it based on what I have researched about DJI and how they run their business. And while a $2,500 MP3 would disappoint me, I'm pretty sure DJI would have a valid reason for doing so, as they are the market leader in innovation, something Autel knows nothing about as they just make clones of DJI products. I'm not sure if you seen another post of mine, but I have an Evo 1, Mavic Pro 1, Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic 2 Pro. Personally, I don't get tilt on my DJI drones. If you do, your issue is very isolated. There is not a "known" tilt issue with DJI drones. There is a "known" tilt issue, that Autel has tried to fix many times, with the Evo series. And back to the original question/topic at hand, how can the person say this is a solid product with everything I stated in my previous comment?

So much goes into coming up with a range maximum figure. It might fly 9km and still be connected if you were in Airplane Mode on the phone, with no nearby interference, 0 wind, full battery, perfect line of sight, optimum antenna position, and at 400' AGL. As Ken stated, this wasn't going to be a test until full disconnection, battery exhaustion, at max AGL, or under other optimum conditions. The horizon issue with on his Evo 1, which is not a problem on all people's Evo 1 models. I will test the Evo 2 in the safest and most ideal conditions once mine arrives but not until I've validated everything in shorter range, cycled the battery at least 10 times, and done a good break-in.

@@savageaf1539 It's not just the range. Everything about this drone is the same as the 1st. Only thing really better is flight time, but that's also what makes it bigger, heavier, and less portable. Plus, the same way the people in the video and others think about distance in that "who needs to go past 2.5 miles", I say the same thing for the battery, I don't need to fly for 40 minutes.

  • @miketipton678

    @miketipton678

@@christianpesox depends on usage. We fly long waypoint missions often, and with Evo 1 or M2P we have to fly multiple missions each. With a 40+ min battery, we can complete the mission in one flight. We also deal with much higher winds here almost daily, so battery life of a 24 min drone gets cut down to 16 or 18 on avg. Battery estimates are based on prime conditions. On the East Coast of FL here the winds are 15+ all the time, and gusts in all directions as routinely... so our flight times yield about 18 min on a good day. Having a 40 min flight time would save ourselves a lot of time in both planning our flights, and actually flying without looking at battery levels as routinely as we do now.
