"Going to the countryside" sounds really posh to Americans and "Going bush" sounds like a slang for going naked lol. I also find it hilarious that we say, "Going camping." I guess that the english word "camp" comes from the Spanish word "campo" (which means countryside.) I'll translate your sentence to American slang (why not?) :P "This afternoon, me and my buddy are going (or "gonna go") camping and gonna pack a sandwich and have a smoke before we go. Might need to stop at a gas station (or "convenience store") on the way."

An ironic comment, showing that most of those aussie words sound and look like romance languages's words.

@@juanmanuelmoramontes3883 Actually, you can hear the difference between how "here" is pronounced in RP and Australian accent. I find the Australian accent seems to be more open in terms of their final vowels especially in words that end in "r" or rhotic sound. Compare how someone might pronounce "teacher" between RP and an Aussie accent. The Aussie slang will sound more Cockney than RP.

Yes , I noticed that too . It's seems a lot of young Australian's pronounce the R in words like Year . Could be because many are influenced by American pronunciations through internet and movies more now than ever .

I chuckled when Emma commented about adding an "O" to words. In the States, the trend is to add "ie" to words; Giftie (a gift), Drumie (Chicken leg), hoodie (a coat with a hood), and so on. Just sounds like "nails on a chalk board" to the ear.

And we're kinda possessive too. All stores we tend to add an "'s" to it. Like Aldi becomes Aldi's or Giant Eagle ('s) or Walgreens('s).
