@@150cameron How does one volunteer to fight forest fires in addition to their day jobs? Now in Manitoba, most fires occur in remote northern regions, so the men need to be stationed beforehand, I would assume it's relatively the same in Australia? And regardless, forest firefighters need to be deployed quickly, they can't be working. Our crews spend their days swimming in lakes and playing cards waiting to be deployed, and when they do deploy they can easily work 100 hour weeks.

@@TheOwenMajor it’s only in cities that people get paid to work as firefighters. As far as I remember, they work on a two day shift, two night shift, four days off rotation (it’s been a while since I’ve been in the city) however, all other services are volunteers. You either operate on an on-call basis or you have shifts you go for, depending on locations. All your equipment is paid for though. Australia is such a big country, we don’t have to funds to maintain services for all areas so we rely on people volunteering their time. Especially during the fires.
