Australia a brief history - from the dawn of animals to modern man.

Australia a brief history - from the dawn of animals to modern man.
Over its 4.54 billion year history the Earth has undergone numerous changes - with shifting tectonic plates constantly sculpting and resculpted the surface of the planet. Some of its earliest geological and evolutionary history can be traced in the rocks of Australia - from its first life to its first animals.
This short animation traces Australia's geological and evolutionary journey from the Crygenian period (~ 600 million years ago) to the present day - from the dawn of animals to modern man.
We live in a time of great change, both for ourselves and for all other life on the planet. History provides us with a warning: all life is vulnerable to extinction.

Hard to believe that we only have about 10,000 years of human history and many millions of years of relative unknown Earth History. It would be crazy to assume that humans or other intelligent life has not been here long before 10,000 years and then wiped away by the many periodically re-occurring mass extinction events.

The core data on terrain used here is derived from "Gplates - Earthbytes" (an open source software that has been developed from the work of numerous academics and paleogeologists). Although I have had to adapt the existing data to focus on the Australian hemisphere I have avoided adding or altering any core data. Zealandia does not appear in that data to date.
