LYRICS:
The Night (1988 Deathrock version)
The day is the wife whom I elude.
The one to whom I should be right.
Though forewarned by peers and kin
I always give in to the night.
Mother always warned me such,
being a nocturnal soul
Besides just being simply strange
Spawns from some illness of the mind.
But the Night,
She calls me
She calls me
She calls me
She calls me
She sways in her velvet dress
And pulls me towards her in the dark
While the others rest
While the others rest
While the others rest
Heed the call the time has come
for you children of the Night
Gather 'round like suckling dogs
Mother's come she is the Night.
Come with me to the other side.
Make that girl in black your bride!
But the Night,
She calls me
She calls me
She calls me
She calls me
She sways in her velvet dress
And pulls me towards her in the dark
While the others rest
While the others rest
While the others rest
I see the light
coming through the blinds.
I close my eyes.
I don't care if you think it's wrong.
I'm gonna sleep the whole day long.
The sun goes down, This is my wake up call.
It still seems very strange to me
that her quiet, lonely streets
draped in all their mystery
could be so sweet and comforting
But the Night,
She calls me
She calls me
She calls me
She calls me
She sways in her velvet dress
And pulls me toward her in the dark
While the others rest
While the others rest
While the others rest

Anyone here from Daria Cohen's The Night? Just curious in seeing if that's causing this video to get more views...
"Make that girl in black your bride"............ i don´t know what it is. I just love that line.
Can't count the number of times I have been pulled out of a dark place by Voltaire. Music saves lives.
As a nocturnal soul myself, in a world which expects day-wakeness, this is very accurate.
Not sure whether I like this or the original more. Both rock in different ways. One thing's for sure: Voltaire's still got it.
I think the original Almost Human album version is one of the most underrated Voltaire songs.
This is my favourite version of this song! It really wakes up my dark side (which doesnt have to be evil)
So much medieval cathedral feels... I'm loving this.
As I am currently nocturnal, this is literally the most fitting song for me.
As a person with dark inclinations who finds it damn near possible to sleep daydweller hours I feel (both versions of) this song in my bones
rock + gothic + a bit of steampunk... wait what is that a thing?
first song i ever heard from you back on that album. I was in highschool 2005-7 i think... you changed so much of my life. Even responded to my fanmail. I'm so happy you're still singing and producing content <3
Holy crap, this album is outstanding, I love this rendition of the song much more than the original. Outstanding job Voltaire!
HOW HAVE I ONLY JUST NOW HEARD THIS?! I SHOULD NEVER UNDERESTIMATE VOLTAIRE!
A flock of followers have solidly associated this song with Daria's cartoon vampire. Congratulations.
This Deathrock version is just too awesome.
voltaire, may translate and l
