Lyrics:
The Masquerade
Every day the Masquerade is sending out the call
Every day that Night Bregade came crashing through that door
They said "What are you doing siting all alone just staring at the telephone?
There's a place we know that you can go and join in the parade"
And I said "I'm just sitting here licking my wounds
And i don't think i'll be finished soon
Where can I find a place to hide from this mess I've made?"
At the Masquerade!
You'll be glad you came!
They won't see the holes that in your soul when you cover up your face
At the Masquerade!
It's gonna be ok!
Trade your shame for wealth and fame where no one knows your name!
Blast and break through
They dragged me to this zoo
"Put your mask on: That's the key"
Which animal is right for me?
So I burst through the pearly gates and
I was alarmed by what awaited
They greeted me with open arms: Like I was one of them
And I felt right away they let me in
Absolved me of my prior sins
So I shed this wretched skin at last!
And I became the mask!
At the Masquerade!
You'll be glad you came!
They won't see the holes that in your soul when you cover up your face
At the Masquerade!
It's gonna be ok!
Trade your shame for wealth and fame where no one knows your name!
It's a chance to leave it all behind (leave it all behind)
Start again, begin a brand new life
They were right that I wouldn't hate it
To think that I hesitated
I finally checked my checkered past
And i'm not going back!
At the Masquerade!
You'll be glad you came!
They won't see the holes that in your soul when you cover up your face
At the Masquerade!
It's gonna be ok!
Trade your shame for wealth and fame where no one knows your name!
Come along don't you fear the Masquerade!
Step in: Don't be afraid
Take your pain and deepest shame
And let them go a the Masquerade!
Grab a mask and cover up your face!
Wrap yourself in silk brocade.
Just forget the mistakes you made
Cause no one cares at the Masquerade!

I think masks have a property of making people disasotiate from their actions. Normal person in mask can do greater evil then without it. Internet has a similar effect. Deinduvidiation effect is what it's called. People can also share more contrevortial opinions with anonymity. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fJ6Fj9CyebGshMo.html

I know it doesn't fit the song perfectly, but somehow the picture it conjures up in my mind (and what I would do if I were to make a music video for the song) is of a shy teenager who has an interest in dark, macabre, gothic things, but doesn't feel like the people around him would understand. So eventually, he stumbles upon some people who share his interests, help him dress up accordingly and show him the local goth club, where he's welcomed with open arms. Maybe at first he thinks this "masquerade" is funny, but eventually, he "becomes the mask" as he realizes he now looks the way he always felt and found people who accept him for that.

actually your the nearest of the real interpretation in the com, cuz its exactly voltaire's life, many of his songs rant about his childhood and how happy he was to grow up and live from music, voltaire is always literal, cheesy and singing about is life, and that's why we love his music, because it's true and well written, not some commercial shit or retarded thing, each song has a message to it that hit right in the feels, kudos from France Voltaire!

Thinking about it while relistening to this; How interesting is that a song that Voltaire made when he was 17 inspired me enough to make my first full song at the same age? The song I wrote (which I named "Mask of Lies") even acts as a sort of "other side of the coin" to this song, which wasn't the original intention, but incredibly fitting. To this day, Mask of Lies is still the only song I've written full lyrics to, and I only did so because of Voltaire. Just thought that was kinda cool to think about.

Cypher System, basically some sort of lovecraftian god feeding on memories managed to create an artificial victorian city in which he traps people, making them part of his "masquerade" and feeding on their memories in excange for bizarre and wonderful abilities. Everyone has to wear a mask chosen by their subconcius, which tightly relates to their powers and, the more they lose themselves, they literally become the Mask. some of said masks have three eyes in a triangular shape, denoting a higher status and some sort of "predestination" to meet the Last of the seven lords of Tamaschera, whose agenda is unknown. my character was one of said three eyed - chosen ones, witch caused every single lord or politician to want me dead, since the Last Lord needed my mask. the game played out much like a political intrigue at the beginning, leaning more towards exploration and "try sto stay alive" by the end. Our story ended when we discovered the true nature of Tamaschera and tried to take down said lovecraftan horror. Needless to say, all the memories we sold during play made it stronger and we had no chance to win. Still, my character found true love in the face of danger. it was a very good campaing.

Wild guess , but is this Masquerade Heaven? Reasoning of the interpretation: The verse"burst through the pearly gates" Also"Absolved me of my prior sins" .In my interpretation he fears first death , but as he sees what lies behind , a world where every one wears a mask , and because of that no one is judged there ,he likes it,because he can just forget his mistakes . I think its his vision of afterlife.

Weirdly, I kind of associate this with me joining the communities I have recently (goth, furry, Warhammer, to name a few), and with discovering your music and community here. I was in a rather toxic situation in a prior fandom, to the point where I feared being ostracized because I didn't tow the party line and agree with everyone else in it, and discovering these communities, including yours, have helped me drastically. Thanks for the great music, and for being an awesome person.
