Funny story: In my D&D campaign we had a bard who, during the final battle, sacrificed himself by tackling the bad guy through a portal to Avernus. For the next campaign, we wanted to bring back our old characters, so the campaign started with the group discovering a way to Avernus and going to rescue the bard, only to discover that in the 2 years he’d been there, he somehow charmed and deceived his way into becoming the ruler of Avernus, which the group found out when he came onto the scene singing this song and showing off his new position of authority.

I’ve noticed the heavy influence from Greek Mythology with the Minotaur, Cyclops, Centaur, Cerberus, Gorgons and Hydra, but I love the added Greek detail with Duke’s cane resembling a Bident, the traditional weapon of choice for Hades, Greek king of the Underworld

I started listening to his work in 2013, and he's been my favorite artist since then, but it was around 2016 or 2017 (whenever this video dropped) that a large portion of his videos pretty much doubled in views. I do hope he gets some sort of revenue from these music videos as well - Daria does the animations, sure, but the soundtracks are all his property. In fairness, Voltaire's also been releasing some banger albums lately with Heart-Shaped Wound and The Black Labyrinth. I swear his music just keeps getting better, as well as more popular. These days most his songs have like, at least 100k views, and back when I discovered him they may've had around 10k to 15k each.

The nostalgia of remembering this song in Billy and Mandy and seeing it visualized in this awesome animatic! You did a great job on this!

It’s probably because of this song that I want there to be a show that has at least one Volitare song an episode. I even have a plot down for it. When an immortal finally kicks the bucket, the princess of the dead, Horror, takes an instant liking to him. To satisfy her curiosity about the domain of the living, he recounts his rollercoaster of an eternity from how he was almost completely devoured by cannabals to his first ever marriage and how it didn’t turn out so well to his first future ex girlfriend to when he was trapped at the bottom of the sea. And she’s cue in like ‘wait! But if you were eaten by canables, than why do you have all you limbs?’ and such... Just a cute idea.

Everything about this is perfection. The colours, the posing of the character, the facial expressions. The animation is smooth as butter and the backgrounds are absolutely amazing. This is exactly the kind of art style Voltaire's work deserves and I couldn't think of a more perfect way to animate to his music. You my guy are doing absolutely amazing work.

I see him more as a Pixar man, cause I'm with Perfect Gojira 5. He was meant to play either Dracula or a musical Satan. There are Hellsing Ultimate AMVs that support this. And Disney, while it has evolved a bit, just ain't ready to do either of those concepts without butchering it to be "family friendly." Pixar can get away with a lot more, as seen in the Book of Life and every offhand joke they've ever made in a kids film. Kung Fu Panda, A Bug's Life, the Ice Age series, Toy Story, the Incredibles, just to name a few examples.

His charriot has a symbol on it that matches his new cane I just noticed. (Ive seen this like 15 times.) And you know what, he seems extra enough to have a charriot for each cane so it always matches.

This is really good work. I'm a fan of Voltaire, so I absolutely appreciate this. As an animator himself, I think Voltaire would, at the very least, be mildly amused, and, at most, humbly appreciative. Got here from the Zombie Prostitute one.

When you think about it, Duke seems to be oddly popular considering he got snuffed by a geeky teen.

If you listen closely this is based on the Greek Mythology and it's Underworld, with Cerberus as the most recognizable part about it, you probably already guessed that. Here's the explanation following the lyrics 1. First, the two pronged staff Duke picks up at the beginning is called a Bident, similar to Poseidon's Trident but with only two prongs. The Bident was most famously wielded by Hades, God of the Underworld 2. "The Minotaur's my butler." The Minotaur was in a Greek Myth about the hero Theseus where he made his way to Crete to stop Athenian teenagers from being sacrificed, and he killed the Minotaur with the help of the Cretan princess named Ariadne. 3. "The Cyclops my valet." Listen, before we start this I need to get the plural of Cyclops out of the way, there isn't an official plural to it but "Cyclopes (Pronunciation: Sy-clop-eez)" is generally the most accepted so I'll be using that. There were multiple Cyclopes in Greek mythology and two generations of them but that gets a little confusing. The Cyclopes were the children of Ouranos and Gaia and the second pair of kids they had after the Hecatonchires (The Hundred Handed Ones (pronunciation: Hek-uh-tahn-ker-eez)) meaning they were older than the Titans. The Cyclopes in this version are most famous for making Zeus's thunderbolts and being master forgers almost in compare to Hephaestus, although in some versions they're Hephaestus's helpers. In the Odyssey by Homer there's a second generation of Cyclopes, ones born from Poseidon and Thoosa (a sea nymph) and they were portrayed as barbaric and stupid with the most famous being Polyphemus who was tricked by Odysseus. 4. "A Centaur draws my chariot and takes me down the way." The Centaur were children of Ixion and cloud Hera (long story) and were usually portrayed as barbaric, lustful, and unable to control themselves. There were, however, some good Centaurs like Chiron (not to be confused with Charon the ferryman) who trained many heroes of Greek myth including: Heracles, Achilles, Jason and Asclepius. 5. "Through a river made of fire." Simply referencing one of the five rivers in the Underworld named Phlegethon (to my understanding, it's pronounced how it looks but I could be wrong). 6. "Cerberus my lap dog is loyal as can be." Everyone knows Cerberus so not much to say here, he's the three-headed dog of the underworld, had lion claws, snake tail, was the son of Typhon and Echidna and his name might actually mean "Spot." 7. "The Gorgons think it's cool" The Gorgons in Greek Mythology are most famous for their youngest sister, a name that everyone's heard at least once, Medusa, and the story mostly centers around her too. The Gorgons are a weird subject, some sources say they were there before the gods were and others say they were daughters of Typhon and Echidna. The most accepted though is the one which is shown in the story of the Greek hero Perseus. The Gorgons start with Medusa, she was a priestess of Athena until she had intercourse with Poseidon, some sources say it was consensual but many others say it wasn't, so Athena gets mad and blames Medusa, turning her and her sisters into the Gorgons. In the story of Perseus when he cut of Medusa's head two beings came out of the neck, Pegasus and Chrysaor (kree-say-or). Pegasus was NOT ridden by Perseus OR Heracles (thanks Disney for confusing all of us), it was Bellerophon(tes) who rode Pegasus. Chrysaor is another confusing subject, his name means "He who bears a golden sword" so he's usually depicted with a golden sword, but what makes this confusing is that in some other depictions he's portrayed as a boar, and he doesn't feature in ANY stories besides the one about Perseus either. 8. "And a seven-headed Hydra livin' in my swimmin' pool." This is most likely referencing the Lernaean (pronunciation: Ler-nay-ann) Hydra who was depicted typically with nine heads but overall is depicted with anywhere from 7-25 heads, I think the number 7 is supposed to reference the 7 deadly sins though. It's heads regrew, it was a child of Typhon and Echidna and it had poisonous blood. Heracles was sent to kill the Hydra but didn't know it's heads regrew with another in it's place so he had to retreat and had an idea to cauterize it's heads before they regrew, and it worked, he killed the Lernaean Hydra and harvested it's blood to coat his arrows with and, in an ironic twist of fate, it's blood eventually killed him (another long story, but don't worry, it actually has a happy ending). And that's it. If you read all (or at least some) of this, I thank you for your time. Honorable mention: "I've got a Dragon's Blood jacuzzi." This sounds familiar somehow to me but I couldn't think of anything, and when I researched it I couldn't find anything, if you have an idea of what it might be, please tell me.

What I love about this animation is is that the staff Duke uses is the staff of Hades. So he either killed him, stole it from him or obtained it by other means. Anyway it could be interpreted that Duke is not only the ruler of the underworld, no he’s the god of the underworld. And I like that interpretation.

Doge Elites Actually she could be. Duke was only powerful because his Sceptre from the first video turned him into a vampire. If Missi turned into one due to the sceptre, she could be just as strong or maybe stronger

Jikkō Von Satsujin but technically, he still ruler of the land of the dead. If she were somehow to “accidentally” die, she’ll fall right into his palm, with no way to escape. The only reason why she even has power, is because she’s holding HIS cane. Just like him, as far as I know, she’ll won’t be able to bring it with her, making her a normal person again.

Despite only seeing Duke in two videos, he's already one of my favorite characters in animation. You've done such a good job animating this video and "The Night" that his whole personality shows. Of course being set to a song helps as well. Either way keep up the great work. I can't wait to see more.
