I’m pretty sure Chris was drinking quite heavily at this point and his voice was very strained. His natural voice at the lower level sounded fine, but his higher register was blasted. Sounded much better when SG reformed a few years later.

Seemed to me that Cornell's voice was just kinda shredded... So he was really straining to hit the notes.

David this band is in my TOP TEN. Brad and Tim are one of the tightest rythm sections around. Tom is one of the most innovative guitarist around . Add Chris in the mix and you have one hell of a band.

Solid review.. it's a good intro to audioslave, I'm sure others have requested songs so I'll resist. I'm pretty sure the sharks or Kings used to (or still does) use this song for pregame. I would only have watched those teams during playoffs (EST), but I do remember a team using this song 🤙

Likely the licencing fees for a few bars of black Sabbath "iron man" ate up all the budget for playing copyrighted music in the film. Overall superhero flick have amazing soundtracks.

Back in the day.... Geez way back in the day I saw Soundgarden live, I'm a huge fan of Chris' voice. He arguably has one of the best male voices ever, so I HATE saying this. I was so disappointed with his performance, the concert bummed me out. Maybe he was having a bad day that day. He sounds beautiful when he's singing softly, but his screams are just not the same live. But hey, it's live. Studio Chris is flawless.

Nice video - I agree that, especially with how unique RATM were, that it'd be a shame were they never to return to that sound. Audioslave is cool band but I don't think they were as good as either RATM or soundgarden, but I'm very glad to have gotten them. They were one of my favourite super groups along side Crash Karma (Edwin, Our Lady Piece) north of the border (canada). Cochise is a great song and from what I know of the studio recording, I guess he may have been trying to emulate his voice from the record (sounds a bit distant there too) though it may not have been a good mix for the song to have a muted voice. Could you do the song, ".44 Caliber Love Letter" by the band, AlexisOnFire. The same year they had won best band in Canada, another fellow Canadian band Arcade Fire was got an American award for best band. This song recently appeared on the show, "The Boys" from Amazon studios, episode 5 season 2 (I believe). Here's a link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/l4ii1JuqnKbXk84.html

The way he drives his vocals, it really doesn't work live. I don't understand why people link to live Soundgarden / etc, except that those people really love the band, and they gloss over the performance because of it. The song is literally missing 1/2 of the lines of the chorus, because Cornell couldn't deliver all of the lines, in tune, in the right register, with the right drive, all on the same breath. The chorus is actually “Go on and save yourself; take it out on me” (pickup on 3&) to. In case I missed it, there is also a Morello solo that I don't recall hearing, here. The vocal tracks on the studio recording are just spectacular. Though you can immediately hear how it's a young man’s song, with a tone that will completely blow out a voice, if not executed properly. There are some seriously short breaths before some serious sustains. Even the official music video is shot in the old-fashioned “how a band thinks they look in concert” way of the hair/glam bands of the past, with more of a modern edge. While you aren't going to rate the studio version, I would suggest that it would be a disservice not to at least listen to it. Another of theirs that never hit big, but was another close approximation of Cornell + RATM was a song from the same album called “Set it Off”. Not as catchy or as anthemic as Cochise, and never got attention, but still very Rage: wall of sound, octave unison riffs between Tom and Tim Commerford, the funky, stilted, not-quite-swing 16ths that Morello puts into his riffs. Lyrically about how fundamentalists ruin everything for everyone, so pretty on point for both of the origin bands. Worth hearing, though I don't know how many of your viewers would know it.

Why anyone sent this video to you as an example of a live performance of this song I have no idea. Perhaps it was the only live performance of this tune? I haven't searched so I don't know but it's rather horrid. To use any bands last tune in a set as an example of their performance is asinine. Anyone who's been to a concert knows how shredded and beat performers are at this point in a concert. Particularly rockers I mean let's be real here the music industry works its performers to death which is part of the reason why half of them are strung out or dead before they leave the life. They get pushed and pushed while touring and record execs / promoters are happy to feed them chemical and substance therapy to keep them moving. It's the rare artist that manages to avoid those pitfalls. Anyway bummer.
