Audio Input and Output Settings on the R5C - R5C Tip 16

Ғылым және технология

This is the 3rd part in what’s increasingly starting to feel like a never ending series of videos looking at the audio capabilities and settings on the Canon EOS R5C. This time we’ll look at the settings found on pages 2 and 3 of the Audio Setup menu.
These include, the mic attenuator and low cut filter, the settings that control the Canon DM-E1D multi-function shoe mic (attenuation, low cut filter, and directionality), and the monaural microphone. As well as the test tone generator, and output routing.
Finally, we’ll look at how to switch from lossy AAC to uncompressed PCM audio when shooting MP4 format videos.

I ended up buying the Ninja but I'm having trouble convincing myself to record on it. Until I find the best settings for editing and post workflow. Right now I'm testing out pro res raw and using the mic input on the adamos Ninja v+.

    Is there a line input

Unfortunately, no. Ideally, you'll need to use an attenuator cable to bring a line level signal down to mic levels for the camera.

Why are my mic settings turned off? Meaning, I cannot make changes in the settings or are displaying in this video

Do you have an external mic plugged into the mic jack? There are no adjustments for the internal mic (it's auto level only). Unless the camera detects an external mic, it will disable all the level settings on the first 2 pages and most of the settings on the 3rd page of the audio menu. Also the camera disables the audio settings if the currently selected recording mode doesn't support audio; for example, slow and fast motion, frame, or the interval mode.

so I did the firmware update on the camera, and the mic levels work again and now able to record to camera. the only thing as now that the most mic settings are not highlighted so I can make adjustment. hope I'm explaining myself correctly. @@PointsInFocus

It sounds to me like the camera is working correctly. It will only enable the settings that you can change in a given configuration. For example, if you look at the first page of the audio menu, the top settings control whether channels 1 & 2 levels are set separately or as one setting. Depending on how you have that set, you'll either get the two separate sets of controls in the middle of the page, one for each channel, or you'll get the 1 set of controls at the bottom for channel 1/2. You'll never see both enabled at the same time.
