Great question @global001. You have two ways of connecting your DJI MIc to the Tascam CA-XLR2D. 1st- is connecting the 3.5mm cable that comes with DJI Mic to the 3.5mm jack input on the XLR2D. 2nd- is purchasing a 3.5mm to XLR adapter and plugging that to the XLR input on the XLR2D(make sure Phantom Power is turned off!). As for setting, start by lowering the input of your camera and XLR 2D line input to the lowest it goes. Then once you have good gain on your DJI Mic receiver adjust the input levels of the XLR2D so that your audio levels are not clipping or peaking. I like to have my loudest levels reach somewhere around -12db. That way I leave some headroom in case my subjects gets louder. Hope this helps!

Thank you for this video, will be buying this for my R5c and thisbwill be my first XLR experience. I was wondering what the ATT and the limiter setting did but couldn't find nothing on them till this video. So thank you for that along with the other cool features like the headphone button on the back! BTW does this bake the 24 BIT audio at 96khz into the video tracks also? Or is there a setting for that

This wouldve been a definite buy for me if they had 192/32 bit rate sonce some of my customers want that bit rate for their audio. I deferred to the tascam portacapture to use with my Canon r5 c since it gave me everything that I need for the current moment.

Great video. I’m a newbie to this. How would I connect the DJI wireless Mic to the Tascam and what settings should I use in my R5C? Thanks!

So we have two R5C's, an A-cam build on rails with the XLR module and a B-cam kept stripped down for gimbal and photo duties. The XLR module ended up being faulty and had to be returned to manufacturer. Would send a low buzz tone though all outputs and get rejected by the camera (red ACC icon) as a supported accessory. Full diagnostics ended up joyless by both us and CVP's repair team. Now we gotta see if getting a new module shipped to the shop or have Tascam repair it is faster. Pretty unimpressed and hoping it was just a bad batch on launch :/ It's honestly less work to just Y-splitter the 3.5 jack from self powered audio sources directly (Sennheiser lavs and something like an NTG 4+) and run one channel -10dB from the other for headroom.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, I can tell you the unit we got was tested with our Canon R3 and R5c in our latest trip out to Alaska with no problems. Although I agree having audio recorded independently from the video source, It was rather nice having everything baked into camera. Very useful for run and gun shooters!

External mics are important of course, but the problem with a lot of medium price mirrorless cameras is that they all record in AAC ONLY, there's no way to up the quality to .Wav files. Does anyone know a camera that uses .wav files?

Hi helpful review thanks. Just curious I'm using this on R5C and it works fine, camera is seeing it, audio levels are being monitored. However, when I go into the R5C audio menu it's all grayed out there's no way to control mic inputs internally other than on the fourth page. Do you know if this is by design or if I should be doing something to turn It on. Any help is much appreciated and thanks again for your video, very helpful

trying to connect the battery holder for 2AA's to the tascam unit. I have removed the plastic cover. It's obvious the battery holder can only go one way. Does it really require a lot of force to attach the battery holder. I am worried that I am going to break the unit, or the contacts. Any comments or advice would be appreciated.

Hello Diego, anytime you plug something in to the mic input on the R5C it will bypass the Tascam XLR2D. I would suggest using the 3.5mm Mic input located on the Tascam unit.

My experience has been that it doesn't work with the R5, the R5 audio recorded with two channels does not appear when placed on the FCPX timeline, both channels are together and not independently adjustable for levels which is super disappointing, it was one of the reasons I bought this. You can record and adjust levels from two sources but the camera records them as one baked together audio track. If you expand audio components in FCPX you get two audio tracks but one is empty and the other has both sources. Such a shame.
