Audax for the first time.

Having promised I'd enter an Audax event, for the past two years, I finally did it. While I am no stranger to 100 mile rides, I haven't done a century with as much climbing as this one. The day wasn't without incident....
My apologies to the Audax fraternity for getting the terminology wrong.

Loved that AUDAX and wonderful to finally meet you Roy. Puncture wise I think I've had my share for this year.

It's been suggested to me by a few people that I should try an Audax, whilst broadly agreeing I just haven't got around to it yet. Seeing this gives me another reason to make 2024 the year that I lose my Audax virginity.

I’ve been the same, Roger. If it wasn’t for Bruce suggesting I join him I doubt I would have got around to it. I was highly impressed with how friendly and welcoming everybody was and no sign of any massive egos on display.

Roy I’ve been waiting for your review of this ride as I did it as well. You’ve shown how great the day was! I wish the start and finish were closer to the countryside. 😉 We all held our breath on the road where they were cutting the hedges! I’m pleased the crashed rider is on the mend.

Good video. As you mentioned on Thomas's vid pacing is everything although this one was higher than what you would get on a 200km. I'm what you can call a full value rider, i made it back with 15mins to spare. Great to have met you.

very different 'feel' to your usual videos Roy, but interesting indeed. the Maltesers Rocky Road wasn't nearly as gruesome as I had expected from your mentioning it a while ago....

Well done, I'm glad you enjoyed it. With your interest in cycling I was surprised it was a first for you. I've watched various You tubers who filmed their ride at the Paris Brest Paris Audax. Absolutely mental but I have great respect for anyone even attempting it. Do you think you'll do others, maybe not the PBP😀 Thanks for sharing the video.

Fascinating video, Roy. You were working hard riding under the gun, so to speak. More pressure when you have a time limit; a bit different from taking rides with Wendy and not having to be somewhere within a specific time. But you obviously had a good time. Yes, I noticed the chap riding the trike. He sure made good time; got quite a bit of speed out of his 3 wheels. 😊 I'd love to be able to ride faster than I do. But I'm constantly having to pull over for cars or slow/stop at Stop signs or red lights. Makes it difficult to maintain a constant speed. Do you by chance know why he was on a trike? I certainly hope he wasn't the rider in the ambulance. Whoever it was, I really hope he/she wasn't seriously injured. You talked to one of the riders who sustained a puncture. I too have just experienced my first EVER flat! I was just getting ready to ride late Sunday afternoon and noticed my front wheel didn't want to roll. Looked down and it was flat as a pancake, not a smidgen of air in that tube. 😮 Someone Up There is looking out for me as it didn't happen on the road. 🤞 Enjoy good autumn riding; it'll be cold soon. 🥶

No, it wasn’t the trike rider. I think he was riding the trike because he enjoyed it, not out of necessity. It was a great day, but faster than I’d normally do 100 miles with climbing. You’ve done well to only be having your first puncture, let’s hope it’s the last for a while. It’s the season when farmers cut the hedges here and leave Hawthorne all over the road. On one stretch a hedge was being cut as we passed, so that was a worrying few minutes 😀
