Instagram is terrible but I blame Snapchat too. Honestly, how did Snapchat filters go from cute lil dog ears to lightening and smoothing the skin, thinning the nose, and plumping the lips....like huh??????? I usually take my selfies on Snapchat but the other day I took a selfie with the regular phone camera and actually thought to myself: "hm that doesn't look right" - how messed up is that!!! I wouldn't be surprised if these filters are giving people body dysmorphia

I know right... according to plastic surgeons people have stopped coming into consultations with photos of celebrities to look like, and instead photos of either photoshopped IG models or themselves in Snapchat filters. And the doctors always say... no one looks like, that it’s not possible. It’s causing a serious dysmorphia . No one can post a regular photo of them anymore.

@@artisticagi seriously!! i've only read a few chapters of the book bc i thought it was to ya for me at the time, but i read the synopsis and reviews and all of that keeps popping up in times like these. everyone has to be perfect to be successful in love and career, there's no margin for humanity anymore. it also reminds me of that twilight zone episode "number 12 looks just like you"

I have like no followers on social media. People say they like authentic but, they don't. People like shiny, fake happy, facetuned, heavily curated. They don't like a selfie where you haven't edited out that pimple on your chin, they don't like when you open up and admit 'actually I'm kinda depressed and anxious right now'. They don't like when you post something you have a real deep passion for. People don't like to see a girl talk about her experiences of sexism and racism, even though we claim to be wanting to listen and believe and show compassion. The other day a model I follow and have become quite friendly with posted in her story an image of a ghost figure surrounded by people and it had the caption "if you feel like you don't fit in this world, it is because you are here to help create a new one" and it hit me right in the feels and I immediately started sobbing. I realize maybe this isn't the society I want to fit into, I'd have to become something I don't like and don't want to be. My life is hard, I struggle, I get depressed. But I'm a good person, I'm honest, I'm philanthropic and kind. I am something else, too, genuinely authentic and people don't like that and therefore they are never going to like me.

I’m a “fat” woman, I’ve lost weight and shared my progress pics only to be told that they’re anti body positivity lmao...my hot take is that if you’re truly positive in your body, what someone else does with theirs won’t change the way you view yourself. If someone posting progress pics offends your plus sized body, are you really body positive?

An opportunity to love yourself enough to allow people THEIR own truth, while still living your own". Substitute -misunderstood- with any kind of shaming. Some people can compartmentalize their real-life from their internet life, they don't take seriously. But I think some people TRULY believe whatever they have on their social media, IS REAL LIFE. AS a marketing tool, is really not that great. Like someone said "you don't get interesting behind a computer/phone" Don't take it so seriously.

Possibly joined with a weight loss program (paid sponsorship) or something and shared her experience with her fans it would have made her seem more human. And possibly could have fpund her self in the spotlight for the right reasons

Thanks for this video, Shallon! It helps me a lot. I never make public any of the stuff that I do because I feel that as long as I look like shit it doesn't matter. But in the positivity train, I actually am a 28 years old gay vocal coach and today I helped one of my students, a gorgeous young woman who is persuing classical singing, reaching her higher classical register with such a beautiful and healthy tone. We were both super happy and excited about it, because she never had such stability while singing on that register. She worked so hard for it, and of course I feel great that I helped her through the process of it.

I personally don’t think her current weight is a good thing, imagine how many unhealthy things you have to eat to get to that, I can’t support anything that will eventually harm your health. It’s not about being an instagram model, which is also toxic because no one actually looks like that, it’s also not about being skinny, it’s about being healthy, as long as you’re healthy, then it is body positivity. We truly don’t know why she’s been gaining weight, you also don’t know why someone is loosing weight, body positivity is more than “damn you look good” I’m a firm believer that how you feel about yourself shows on the outside. There’s a point where you have to take responsibility for yourself, it takes mental and physical strength, and that’s when you start loving yourself.

I absolutely loved the premise of this video Shallon. This is way bigger than Aubrey O’Day for me. Being in this pandemic has revealed that I need to level up my life in more ways than just posting “insta-worthy” moments. I’d hate to wake up one day and realize that I’ve reduced my existence to constantly seeking this type of validation. It’s really time to change some things.

It’s just so weird to me that she’s supposedly not confident in her body yet, she goes out in public wearing that outfit. I’m currently not feeling my best about my body and, as a result, I would personally NEVER wear something like that out in public. Like, maybe she has is super confident because she’s photoshopped so much she has body dysmorphia about her actual appearance (I wish that worked on me). And her denial about her image is literally real denial because she DOESN’T actually see herself as she truly is in real life. 🤯 EDIT: I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her appearance either way! I just want everyone to know what I think could possibly be going on psychologically.. I would never photo shop by image because literally my biggest fear is that I look worse in real life than my social media would depict.

The only social media account I have is twitter and I rarely use it. For me social media is a waste of time and energy. It gives me sensory overload from the amount of information coming in and conflicting opinions on to many topics. I realized in my late twenties that I don't have to have an opinion about everything, that it's ok to say I'm undecided, I don't know, and/or its not my concern. I worry about my own house and stay away from thinking about how I can decorate other people's houses. I share my life with my friends and family in a more personal way. I don't take a bunch of selfies. A lot of times pictures are an after thought because my husband and I are enjoying the moment.

What you said about Instagram... wow. It spoke to me on another level. I deleted the app because it made me so anxious and scared to see other people living a life I don't have even if I know it's fake. Instagram didn't really fill me with joy, KZread does. So I'm happy to hear this from you, I think we're scared of not belonging and social media is part of it but honestly, sometimes we need it for our mental health.

I’m a grad student in A School Psychology Program. In trainings, we speak A LOT about Gratitude and positive psychology for ourselves, for youth, for everyone! I do WhatsGood, which is an app that you can set at any time of the day. I do mine at lunch time, when it asks me what’s good? And it reminds me to dig into what I’m grateful for everyday. Even when I’m in a funky mood or nit picking at myself, it helps me think about a positive and immediately makes me feel better. That’s just a brain muscle you have to flex at least once a day!

My folks on mine know I do that because I tell them, as an artist I do this stuff all the time. Also, I’m plus sized myself right now. I used to drive myself & others around me insane body shaming myself, putting myself on crazy diets, losing weight only to gain a bunch of it back. Just love yourself for yourself, wear what you want to and own it. If that’s what she wanted to wear in these pics, I see no problem. She was walking her dog and being herself. I’d be like, “Yeah, this is me, and?!” I love this channel. I literally just discovered it. New sub :)

I remember one night about a year ago, she went on IG Live with the singer Aaron Carter and I remember she kept her screen black (wouldn’t show her face). We all gain and lose weight and Aubrey should just own it and keep it real. I think the fact that she is denying her weight gain is what makes it worse. Just own it and say, yes I have gained weight and that's it . Everyone would respect her more for it!!!
