Attending the Latin Mass in Arkansas the last 4 . 5 yrs. when arriving from Michigan ; Glad I did ; brings back memories of my Catholic grammar school and the devotion and sacrifice of the nuns to us. I was born in 1952 and always missed the Latin Mass after Vatican two.

Good for them! In Germany modernists killed the Church and now.. They burry it. No vocations at all. But money, lot of money: in Germany you're supposed to pay taxes for the Church. So bishops are ok: "we run our bisness and we keep on saying and doing what people like". No priests? So much the better: we already have "Wortgottesdienste", "Services of the Word", pseudoliturgical crap runned by lay people, men or women, celebrating "happy feelings for a better World" .. And they give Communion from the Tabernacle at the end... And, the horrible thing is, german bishops pretend to teach African Catholics what "the Spirit" wants now from the Church....

@@tomaszdziamaek1839 In my understanding, given the situation and experiences of the Polish people with their Prussian, Russian and later Nazi and Soviet communist invaders / occupants who were Protestants, Eastern Orthodox and atheists, I find it normal that belonging to the Catholic church became part of the Polish national identity :-)

Dude, you're journey sounds exactly like mine. The more deliberate and serious I took my faith the more I learned and I am shocked at the casting aside of the traditions that created so many saints. Its aproblem.

So true. I feel like the modern Church tries to get rid of all the Catholic distinctives so they can appear more relevant. Sadly, they betray their own marks and callings in the process. If we are trying to be Catholic, then let's do so with all the ways and means God has given us. I think the modernist thinks he or she is removing a roadblock, when instead bridges and stepping stones are being dismantled. The very things we hide or banish are those elements of the truth faith that will catch and reel others in more closely to the true faith. Let's not be ashamed of those elements!

Me too. The trad Church had its flaws but they could have been easily dealt with in the council. Instead the revolutionaries threw out the good stuff and are still trying to lock the door. Anyway it’s coming back and that’s good.

You pretty much just every point I felt after my first TLM. I felt totally ripped off my entire life after attending the Latin Mass. Anyone else feel the same?

The TLM is like a gem in the Catholic Church. It’s like a treasure that you never knew was there (at least to me) and then finally discovered it, and you treasure it with all your heart and soul. To me, it’s like a piece of heaven on Earth. What a beautiful gift Our Good Lord gave to us. ❤️🙏🏻✝️

We started going a couple of months ago and I came to the realization that I could not attend the modern rite Mass ever again without a very very serious reason. Everyone I talk to feels this way. We've been lied to and robbed. Those who have been brought up in tradition are appalled when they've had the rare occasion to attend the novus ordo Mass.

we were absolutely robbed. and it's not mere coincidence that the priests and prelates most opposed to Latin Mass and using the Baltimore Catechism are precisely those who are either involved in pederasty and the harassment of seminarians or involved in its coverup. Just look at what Cdl. Blaise Cupich did to the founder of the Canons Regular of St John Cantius (even though they dutifully went beyond the "pinch of incense" of acceding to the validity of the Novus Ordo to actually celebrating it....maybe it was "salt on a wound" to celebrate it in the same reverent manner as the TLM). At Cupich precious diocese, he was less sly and more overt - he chained the doors of the church where the TLM was to be offered - during the highest holy days of our church - the Triduum!!! he claimed the church should be unified at that time of year....Fine your excellency on that we agree - so why not come and be unified under the Mass that formed 2000 years of Christians and saints?

The Traditional Latin Mass emphasizes Pope Benedict's point that "eucharistic adoration is simply the natural consequence of the eucharistic celebration, which is itself the Church's supreme act of adoration" (Sacramentum Caritatis, no. 66).

I attended my first latin high mass on all Saints Day! I almost cried during the nicene creed. The beauty of the Gregorian chants, the homily was quite amazing. I felt like the priest wasn’t afraid to offend anyone. Stating the disease of Protestantism and why they don’t understand the Saints. Even though. I could barely follow along. I didn’t care that I couldn’t understand majority of the mass. I felt more prepared for the world.

Quang Vo Thank you! Yes, I do have access with many parishes that does the Latin mass. However, the parish that I recently attended was the only one that does the high Latin mass. I may attend this parish more for the high mass. I’ve been attending the NO mass or an eastern Rite Divine Liturgy.

Yes, the homilies of Latin Mass priests are informative and follow doctrine. I've learned very much history from them. Praise God I returned to the Church and found the Latin Mass right away back in 2013.

Brian, I’m pleased you and your family have discovered the Mass of the Ages. It is the most beautiful thing this side of heaven. After attending the TLM for the first time in 2011, I find myself seeking it as often as possible.

Brian, I think after a month of attending TLM, you will find your understanding of "Liturgy" will greatly expand. You might even feel strange going back to the Novus Ordo (this not Vatican II bashing, just based on personal experience). May God bless you and your family.

The NO is not a direct product of VII, so one may bash away. It is definitely defective, even down to it's theological roots. It emphasizes aspects of the Mass (the meal and the community) over its sacrificial essence. It should be avoided if the TLM is available.

I love when you use Allegri’s Miserere Mei. One of my favorite pieces of all time!

That’s awesome! Mozart was such a genius, especially at such a young age when he transcribed it. For hundreds of years, the Miserere Mei was one of the most guarded treasures of the Church. I wish we used it more often! And it’s so amazing that the Church saw a piece of music so sacred that it could only be played during the Triduum in the Sistine Chapel. It shows the importance of sacred music for sure.

I started going to TLM when I first moved back to Florida after my enlistment in the Marine Corps. I immediately felt like I stepped out of time and into infinity. I was hooked. Small word of advice: If you continue going, you're an intelligent man... You'll likely notice that there are those who truly practice traditionalism, and there are many others who wear the traditionalist label, but really practice archeologism (the love of all things old just because they're old). Don't let the crazies get to you.

O.K. If you ever come to Tampa we have the Latin Mass at Epiphany parish.

I was ten years Calvary Chapel (evangelical) before God showed me His Bride. I lasted 1.5 years in the new Church before I attended my first Latin Mass. No contest. You’ve been smitten- welcome! Eight children and a lot of love and good fruit. We owe it all to Tradition. Your observations were articulated so well- with such sincerity and love for our Lord and His Church. As you are now so once was I. That is I once was new to the awesomeness handed down from our forefathers. We have a lot of old grumps in the Trads so keep a good positive upper lip :) JM&J

When I started praying the Rosary I was quickly led to the TLM. My 1st TLM also happened to be a high Mass and it was like I had been transported back in time. I just sat there with my jaw on the floor, overjoyed at finding it. The TLM preserves the sense of the sacred that is sadly missing in almost every aspect of our modern lives. This is amazing, because I've been going through so many of the same things that you've been talking about in these videos in terms of liturgy and how as modern Catholics, we've been really cheated out of the beautiful and truthful goodness of the liturgy, in regards to music, architecture, posture, and understanding of the signs and symbols and how they all point to right worship of the One True God. In my own experience, I had been a part of a chant choir at a NO university student Mass, so I was seeing, first hand, how the NO Mass can be made beautiful, but then all of a sudden, the chant choir was banned (it's a long story that I won't get into). Because it had been such a huge thing for me, I felt I would be in a rather cognitively dissonant state to just remain going to "regular ol' [ironic] NO Mass" with tiring, bland music, and not a lot of reverence and prayerful state shown (which makes it difficult to not be distracted oneself). So I HAD to go to the Latin Mass. It was certainly strange, because the language was unfamiliar, and there was so much silence... but have a Missal with which to follow along, and wearing a chapel veil, and seeing the Mass the way one sees it in artwork throughout the past 2000 years, I felt more Catholic in that moment then I have in my entire life, and I'm a cradle Catholic who has always striven to be serious about my faith. So I love that you, Brian, have also decided to go to a Latin Mass.

The one thing I dislike about Mass is the folk music. My father plays in a folk group and he's wonderful but I always thought the "happy/cheerful" tone takes away from the power and solemness of Jesus' sacrifice. I prefer the Gregorian chanting.

You and your wife and five kids are not out of place at a Latin Mass! There you'll find many families, many young families... with 7, 8, 9 + kids. I just found your channel today and find you so refreshing, articulate and sincere. Thank God there are courageous young men like you out there in the world defending and living the Catholic Faith and trying to make the world a better place for your family. Congrats! Latin Mass is THE Mass. Traditionalism is the way to go. Vatican II has been more harmful than good for the Church. Modernists tried to bury this Mass, thank God that Benedict brought it back.

There is a large gap between the texts of Vatican II and what you find in the average US (or western) parish. When you actually reads Sacrosanctum Concilium, especially when you remember that it was voted in a context in which the only known liturgy was the Tridentine Masse, it's quite hard to see the connection with the versus populum, full-vernacular with communion on the hand, cheap ornaments and low hieratism of most Novus Ordo masses.

On KZread there is novus ordo mass the way it was intended and is more similar to a Latin mass than what we have on a normal parish, I agree the spirit of Vatican II made more harm than Vatican II itself.

Benedict didn’t bring it back; it was never allowed to be taken away! The fact it was is Sinful and Heretical. As to the other comments defending Vatican 2: I can’t believe people don’t realise the Heresy of the thing. Even SC said on the Liturgy that wherever Gregorian Chant cannot be done, other things may be used.... opening a window to sacreligious music. It also said we need “less” statues in Churches.... whyyyyyy?! To appease Protestants? Look how well that worked out.... The “Spirit” of Vatican 2 is the same as the Council itself. Which is why the Roman Pontiffs by and large celebrate the Mass and teach the Theology of the Spirit. There is no difference.

I went to a latin mass here in Ireland at Christmas for the first time.I was struck by just how much we lost because of v2 We need to return to tradition,that is what will sustain the Church and only that will bring in the true believers. That was my biggest take,,,just how diluted and distorted everything has become. we need to return.

This is exactly how I feel. I loved my old Mass where I felt so close to God and with the music, the hymns, the High Altar, the incense, It gave a taste of how Heaven must be. Now the Mass is a fraction of the time and much of the prayers have been cut. There is no reverence and little respect. So glad to hear that the Latin Mass is still celebrated somewhere. Thanks for how you saw it. That is how I feel.

YESSS! Tridentine Mass is what brought me to Catholicism! It is out of this world! Congratulations, Brian!!!

I made my First Holy Communion in the early 1960's. I have grieved the loss of the Traditional Rite. I am watching, with such joy, as you and other young people are discovering the Mass of the Ages and getting the word out. The Latin mass should be the RULE not the EXCEPTION. Lead the way, millenials. God is using you to bring us back to the sacred Traditions of the Church. I am so happy that you are discovering the the beauty and reverence of the Latin Mass.

I went to my first Latin Mass the beginning of May this year. And I immediately joined the parish. I have to drive a little over an hour to get to mass each Sunday. But now when I go back to a novus ordo Mass it just honestly feels like a Protestant service. Very Bland.

This is one of your best videos Brian! You made me nostalgic for the one time my family and I were able to consistently attend the TLM, in El Paso, TX. Everything you said about it, and especially about the congregation was exactly my experience. It has been well over a year since we lived there, but we remember fondly that "piece of heaven", and I thank you for this beautiful reflection.

Thank God for the Latin Mass, it is bringing back many 20-somethings like me who fell from the faith and challenging us to finally study the faith after poor religious education in our childhood (often due to the teachers lack of knowledge or a faith contaminated by the false ideas of the 1960s).

I remember my first Latin Mass, I cried singing the Credo. Now I attend it once a month with my grandma. This is the most beautiful moment of every month.

Awesome video Brian, thank you. I’ve been going to our local TLM for two years now (available only biweekly) and each time I drive to Mass I have the same joyful anticipation- like a kid going to a candy store!

We were pretty unhappy with the NO Mass. Something was wrong and we didn't know what. When we had the opportunity to attend the EF Mass about five years ago we went, and never looked back. There is no comparison, for all the reasons you stated, the peace, the intensity of prayer, the Mass as it was for our ancestors in the language used around the world. That unifying dead language (a good thing, since it can't be redefined), beautiful in it's antiquity and unchanging nature. No innovators can fiddle with it and change meanings, love it. But the fact that the Mass is vertically oriented, toward God, and not ourselves, that is my favorite aspect of the Holy Mass in the Extraordinary Form. You and your little band are most welcome at the Latin Mass, because you, and they, are the future of the Church. Your children, are most fortunate to have such a wise and discerning (and young!) dad. God bless all of you.

As a Catholic from Poland, when attending Masses in USA I was surprised of somehow less rigorous , less prayerful atmosphere here, but enjoyed openness and warming welcome from parishioners. I also spoke with my father who attended Masses in Latin until it was in the native tongues , he told me about difficulties with focus and understanding by many church goers.

Hello Brian! The reactions of your wife and yourself to attending your first Traditional Latin Mass sound very much like my own when I attended my first TLM a little over 5 years ago. I have been richly blessed to belong to a parish where the Latin Mass is celebrated every Sunday and also during the week. I noticed that you had several guitars on the walls behind you, and you were playing some polyphonic music in the background for your video. You are obviously a man who appreciates music, and the music is what first drew me to the Traditional Mass. Like you, from the very first time I attended, I noticed the atmosphere of silence, reverence, and prayerfulness.I also noticed the wide diversity of ages and backgrounds: young adults, young families with children, middle-aged, and elderly. It took me a while to become familiar with the actions and prayers of the Mass, but once I did. I decided I wanted to continue to attend this form of the Mass. I hope you and your family will continue to attend this form of the Mass, grow to love it as I have, and discover its richness. If you would like to learn more about this form of the Mass, I can recommend websites, useful books, and missals to help you experience and appreciate this form of the Mass more fully.

We began attending the Traditional Latin Mass the first of July this year. It has deepened our prayer life tremendously - seriously like a mega dose vitamin shot. My awareness and attentiveness in my thinking, speaking, actions and negligences in daily life is keenly heightened. After 3 months of attending only the Tradition Latin Mass,, we attended a Novus Ordo Mass and I was shocked at how exhausted I felt leaving Mass - and it was a reverantly 'done' Mass. It isn't an issue of whether the Novus Ordo is valid - it is an issue of fecundity - fruitfulness. You are spot on when you mentioned individualism and our sense of entitlement to pick and choose what we want. I wonder which Mass the Lord prefers - the Novus Ordo or the Traditional Latin Mass? One thing you and your wife might consider is inviting the FSSP priest to your house for dinner. You will be in for a most wonderful time.

Vatican || , something went wrong. Why go from extraordinary to ordinary? discovering what was taken away has left me questioning... How do you make that leap + why wasn’t that worth protecting?!

Andrea Leon Whichever Mass is regularly practiced around the world is the ordinary form of the Mass. The Tridentine Mass was the ordinary form prior to the promulgation of the Mass of Paul VI ("Novus Ordo Mass"). When the Mass of Paul VI was promulgated, it became the ordinary form and the Tridentine Mass became the extraordinary form.

That is why my parents would say the rosary during mass, instead of participating, because they felt they were not included, just a mere observer. The church militant are not observers, we are the reason the mass exists; to save sinners.

Andrea Leon LOL to gain numbers? maybe that was their intent (more likely it was not) but if increased attendance was their goal for making changes, it was an epic fail. the church has done nothing but bleed parishioners since the institution of the NO and it continues unabated. Today there are more ex Catholics than practicing Catholics and even fewer converts.

Mark Hill people feel like mere observers now in the Novus Ordo. There have been Latin - English Missals for YEARS. I have copies from the 1930s. Americans have been literate too. so there's no good excuse not to follow the Mass in ones Missal. after a time people even begin to understand the Latin - That is if they go to Mass regularly

This is the Mass of the Saints! The reverence is almost emotionally over whelming at time! I love attending!

I am a convert to Catholicism (2006). I have been attending the Traditional Latin Mass consistently for the last seven years. THIS is the Holy Mass of the ages! THIS is what I converted to! THIS is the Holy Mass which has spawned a multitude of great Saints! THIS is the Holy Mass which is directed toward worship of Almighty God as the Center rather than man as the center! The Mass is not about Eucharistic ministers and greeters and the sign of peace with people moving around in the pews and flashing peace signs to one another. It is not about the Priest placing his chair front and center behind the altar when often the Tabernacle is off to the side or unable to be found. It's not about guitars or kumbaya. It's not about jokes in the homily. What it IS about is the most reverent worship of Almighty God in every way. Our utmost for the King of Kings! To kneel at the altar and receive Him not in the hand, but on the tongue! Thanks be to GOD for the Holy Mass of the ages!

First thoughts about participation and intent in the Latin Mass, remember this is something that is deliberately chosen by those who are there - something beyond the 'minimum.' Go to daily Mass. It also is characterized by participation and deliberate intention. If all Sunday Masses were still in Latin, you'd most likely see all the half-hearted participation you see today.

I couldn’t agree more. I am African and when we had Latin Mass many of us couldn’t understand a fig. And we only stayed there for beauty and gratitude for free missionary schools. If not for Vatican II there would have been diminished participation because we would have had nothing to pass on to our kids except beauty and gratitude to missionaries - good luck keeping kids in Church with only those two things. Vatican II transformed the Mass by God s providence into vernacular in our region and the growth here ( with increased understanding of the Mass) has been explosive. People who criticize Novus Ordo fail to see universal benefits beyond their own countries. They basically fail to understand the Catholicism of the RCC and above all the Providence of God through these Councils.

Just food for thought, When the apostles and first missionaries went out spreading the faith, it was all “Latin Mass”. Even though it was Latin the faith still spread all over the world, change lives, and the greatest saints in our church came out of it. Again as a fellow catholic, that’s just food for thought as I don’t have all the answers and admit our church is going through hard times right now. God bless you

@@Cristero4718 Um, I don't think that's true. The apostles and first missionaries were celebrating Mass in Koine Greek, which was commonly known and understood everywhere in the Mediterranean basin and most everywhere Alexander the Great had been.

@@Cristero4718 ...which actually creates amusing speculation about how much the Koine Greek traditionalists may have grumbled when the Church changed the language of Mass to Latin, which at the time was viewed as a less-sophisticated language than Greek (kind of like in this country at the time of the Revolution, English was seen as less sophisticated than French).

Amen Alleluia! I've been double dipping every weekend since May. The current celebration of Mass on Saturdays and Latin High Mass every Sunday. Can't tell you how my faith and closeness to God has evolved these past few months. But I will tell you this, the reverence is real at A Latin High Mass. I can feel God's presence so much more. The homilies to me are the most amazing words I have ever hear. And the music is soooooo inspirational. The rituals within the Mass. The incense,the bells, the posturing...I pray that you make it a habit. I'm so blessed that I have, and will continue to do so. God Bless you and yours. m

Thank u. I would say as you learn more abt the latin mass, the significance behind the mass structure, the altar rail, the veiling, altar rail cloth etc. Ypu love it. Especially when i learn abt the significance of traditonal church stuture has the baptismal font at the front, the tabernacle in the middle etc. I love it max. Im a cradle catholic who left the church for abt 15yrs return because of this EF mass.

Very well said and thank you! You are experiencing what many other young people around the world have experienced and why the Trad. Mass is gaining popularity, especially with your people. With such a busy world it is quite nice to sit and be still knowing that He is there. My wife and I attend Mass that way a couple of times a year and would go more often if it was offered closer to where we live and she wears a veil when we attend. There is something so reverent and beautiful about a woman who humbles herself that way, I fall in love with her all over again every time she does. May God bless you and your family and the Holy Spirit gives you what you need in the time you need it. Perhaps this is what you needed now.

I think your last point is very interesting. You’re a very astute observer, and I think that’s a great Grace. What I would invite you to do, is look deeper into Tradition. If you want to know why the Latin Mass was (practically) banned after the Council, and why Latin Mass and the Novus Ordo is SO different, in the way you describe (almost like two different Churches) It all starts with Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre. Watch the documentary of his life, and the history of the “issue” of the Council, and you will find many answers to the questions you have asked. You are so close to fully embracing Tradition- I can feel it. So glad to hear that you had the same experience that I did. It was not just the Mass of our ancestors but also of 90+% of the Saints.

I too have recently experienced the latin mass for the first time, and honestly, given the current state of the church I much prefer to attend the traditional rite. There are so many liturgical abuses nowadays in some masses that sometimes I feel like the priest and the laity have a hard time to have a spiritual connection with Christ. I cringed really hard last sunday when I had to attend a novus ordo mass, and the priest kept talking about soccer in between the sacraments and then he took a selfie at the end...

Eduardo Schiavon it's true that abuses are rife in the celebration of the NO, but I think you will find that if you attend the traditional rite often enough, especially once you habituate yourself to its peculiarities and structure (I'd say about 2 months worth of time), even the most solemn and reverent NO will not satisfy you as the TLM can. The traditional rite is the lived experience of Catholics from the 1st Century down to our own day. It cannot but be richer in symbolism and more deeply fruitful spiritually an experience of the Sacrifice of Calvary. Please God you never have to suffer through liturgical banality and poor homilies ever again

Excellent presentation. I grew up with the Latin Mass. I highly recommend for those able to, to purchase the 1962 Roman Catholic DAILY Missal (Angelus Press is mine). The illustrations are wonderful and the devotional prayers are a vital aspect of my daily morning and evening devotions. The Sunday (only) version is less expensive but you'll wish later you purchased the Daily. Btw most prayers are in both English and Latin. There are videos online that explain how to use the Missal during Mass. It took me a few times to relearn it but it will come and there are tutorials online to help with the pronunciations.

Purchased my 9yo his first 1962 Roman Missal in April.

One of the best descriptions I’ve seen or heard of the TLM. I felt everything you described. Thank you! I hope young people are paying attention. I was just saying to my wife the other day, regarding my son, that he always falls asleep at the NO. He has NEVER fallen asleep at the TLM. It’s a great mass for kids since there’s always something going on.

Sacred Silence moments during the TLM is striking your soul...

There’s a small book I just read called “The Mass and its Folklore” by John Hobson Mathews. It’s about the old European medieval folklore surrounding the traditional mass. I found it interesting because I love the medieval times and it has thus deepened my interest in the liturgy. It’s short and cheap so no harm in giving it a shot :)

This was a wonderful and charitable reflection!

I've been a subscriber for a while, and I really think you are well suited to thread the delicate needle here between sound Catholic thinking, charitable interpretation of your fellow Catholic Christians, and an honest confrontation with the history of the Church in the 20th century. I'm happy you got to experience it for yourself. I'm looking forward to my first one myself. I've been reading some of these comments and they are coming across as little insane. You have people on both sides complaining about participation, lack of, language, etc. My advice, get over it. I've attended many a mass in other languages for funerals, baptisms, communions, I got through it because I know what I was the for, my understanding of language, custom, and culture had little to do with it. I say experience something new, if you'd like to continue it then go ahead, if not, it shouldn't take away from the reason you were there for to begin with. That said, I really enjoyed this video and am looking forward to my first TLM.

Stella Lima-Nieves The first Latin Mass I went to, the priest said in his homily 'If you come here thinking you are superior to the Catholics who like the new Mass, then you are missing the entire point.' And I agree, many of the comments here, which deal with the random liturgucal abuses and poor asthetics of new churches, overlook the big picture: the form and purpose of the liturgy itself.

My husband and I are also reading a book together called Noble Beauty, Transcendent Holiness - Why the Modern Age Needs the Mass of Ages by Peter Kwasniewski and we highly recommend it!!! It’s so soo good and has helped us so much in transitioning.

Brian, thank you SO VERY MUCH for this video!!! You capture so many things I've been thinking but can't seem to articulate so well! As I learn more about my new faith, I've found myself drawn to the Latin Mass - or perhaps to the "idea" of it, but there are NONE available to us, at least not within a manageable Sunday morning drive.... But I have attended ONE Latin Mass, and my experience was somewhat like yours - I was in awe of the reverence I saw in the congregation, and the beauty and reverence of the Mass itself, including the music during the Mass (of which there was quite a bit). I was particularly struck by the music (which was beautiful and edifying), the presence of chapel veils among the women, and especially the fact that no one was "aping" the Celebrant's gestures, holding hands or waving arms as I so frequently see in the N.O. The only gestures I saw were the very frequent signing of the cross by the people in the pews in front of me. But the funny thing - I attended this Mass in Puerto Rico while I was there for work. So not only was it a TLM, but the "Vernacular" portion of the Mass was in Spanish (which I don't speak) - so in a way it was quite disorienting, and I had a hard time keeping up with the printed TLM "Missellette" sheets that they offered at the Mass. Afterwards I felt that maybe it was a mistake to even try to keep up, and perhaps I should have just watched. Still - the reverence shone through, even though the words were all foreign to me. And as I reflect on it, the experience whet my appetite to attend the TLM again. I'm wondering if there's a good way to approach our local Archdiocese about having such a mass in our city? I don't know the attitude of our Archbishop, but I assume it's not all that favorable considering the lack of a Latin Mass here in the same city where the Cathedral is located.

My first TLM experience was not in my own parish, it was in another city. And it was the TLM in the Dominican Rite. I was disoriented at first but it was truly solemn. Greetings from the Philippines!

Barbara De La Rosa, I agree 100%! I attended the Divine Liturgy for the first time before I was even thinking of converting to Catholicism. The Liturgy was so foreign to me and so confusing. But even then, I could see its beauty and holiness.

Yes! I went to latin mass but it's not offered regularly where I live now. Byzantine rite is much closer to traditional mass than Novus Ordo

I think it's just as startling to hear people in the church that are so fanatically committed to the Latin form of the mass. It goes both ways. Christ is fully present at both. I think it's great that the Latin form is still available though. If people can worship better that way then so be it. But I'm not a fan of people looking down on others because you don't go to the Latin mass or vice versa. If you go to early morning Sunday masses or early morning mass you get the same feel. Mostly because you find people who are ardent Catholics willing to get up early in the morning to go to mass. We have to remember back in the day the Latin mass had it's draw backs as well. For one many of the people didn't know latin. People would come to mass and would pray individual devotional prayers like the Rosary or Stations of the Cross during the mass until the bell was rung for the consecration of course. The Form of the mass is not the problem or reason for chatter. I think we just need more Priests and Bishops to enforce reverence. Lead the people. Tell us what we should do.

I think part of the difference between NO and TLM is that you have lukewarm or superstitioys cultural Catholics who attend to fulfill a minimum obligation rather actually wanting to be there. Thus, a NO Mass can feel disjointed. People go to TLM because they WANT to. They desire it, seek it, and everything it offers and everything they offer for it.

I started going to latin mass a year ago and am now serving as ministrant where as i found being a ministrant in the novus ordo totally undesireble before. In the latin mass it is such an honor to be face to face with God serving at the altar. Still can't convince my parents to go with me sadly it kind of devides us but I simply can't go back anymore. How could I live without such a gift. This holy mass was love on first sight if I might say so.

I am a seminarian, studying at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, and many years back my family and I encountered the Latin Mass. This encounter instilled in me a sense of awe, wonder, and also a clear direction of adoration toward God the Father, thru the Grace won for us by the Sacrifice of the Son. Besides the fact that I had no prior knowledge of the Mass being anything other than how the Novus Ordo is celebrated, I immediately told myself, "This is the Mass of the saints... this is the sacrifice of the cross being made present to us as it has been for a millennium." This form of the liturgy also helped me find my calling and to join the seminary. So, Brian, persevere in finding beauty, and truth, which, as Augustine said, is ever ancient and yet ever new.

It's only becuase in the west it's been pounded into everyone from early school days ''diversity is a strength'', which is not true, it is good to have people with different ideas and opinions/views, but not in anything fundamental that people seem hooked on these last 50 years. It makes not sense, is an army platoon better because more diverse? ...of course not, they perform best when unified. Like any group that wishes to acheive/succeed in anything, there must be something in common.

Brother, you took the words out of my mouth. I started attending the Extraordinary Form of the Mass a few months back, and felt exactly the same as you did here. And I'm from all the way in Singapore. My big question was the same: Just HOW have we changed so much since Vatican II? Thanks for sharing.

Oh.my word what an excellent video. When we first attended a Sunday mass at the Latin mass I was so shocked at how forgein it felt. My husband had no problem with it. We have now been a part of our Latin parish for a year now and We will never go back to the novas ordo. I pray your heart is moved and you feel the draw to the solemn beauty of the Latin mass.

Really good stuff Brian! You've described a lot of the same impressions I had at my first Latin Mass. With time and exposure, things tend to become merely "the norm," but things at my local FSSP parish can still strike me, especially the quiet, reverent atmosphere. One thing that I've grown to appreciate is that the Latin Mass is, in and of itself, catechetical in a way that the new Mass isn't.

I'm glad you had such a great experience! A well done Extraordinary Form is truly beautiful. As is a well done Novus Ordo. I worry a little bit about this "us vs them" tone that finds its way into the conversations about the rites. I've attended dead and lifeless Latin masses as well as vibrant and transcendent vernacular ones, I habitually attend out local EF but sometimes will attend the NO or even the local Melkite rite (liturgy of St. John Chrysostom). They are all beautiful and approved... what it comes down to is how they are presented, prayed, and participated in. It's impossible to say one is superior than any other since they are so human in their nature.

Oh. Well, they all are approved and they all have their issues and they all have their strong points. I fail to see how logically it can be concluded that there is one superior liturgy - perhaps situationally but certainly not objectively. I prefer the Extraordinary Form myself but it's not beyond reproach or abuse.

Led by Bernadine in the USA - who ( historically recorded fact) lied to Pope Paul VI so that the indult for the faithful to receive standing and in the hand - was granted. I would be very careful with your "approved". These approvals were based on lies. Lies are not from God. Wake up. They are not all beautiful and approved when the approval is all based on lies. Look at the instruction from the Church on the use of Extra-ordinary ministers of the Eucharist - the instruction is manifestly lied about to lay people as priests ( and bishops) have lay people administering the Eucharist in every Mass. It is bad and sad that so many clergymen lie daily.

We shoud all go back to the Traditional Latin Mass

My 1st Latin mass made me cry. As a cradle Catholic, I was struck to the core by what I had missed my whole life & what was stolen from the Church & the world at Vatican 2. I go every week now & when I can during the week despite the 1hr drive. I believe the problems of the world & the Church started when we removed the powerful graces said thousands of times a day across the world in the 1960’s. It will come back. Read the church approved Our Lady of Good Success. She predicted Vatican 2 & when it would happen, but she said the Church would be restored!
