You're both right i think. That'll teach me to comment on something i heard while making me a plate of food, walking between my kitchen and my PC. Sam is not making it clear that he's talking about another goal (beating his high speed run in the 488), and not the official goal for the video of reaching 200MPH.

I think you got your analogy wrong. Apple is definitely more like Ferrari!! Not as many mclarens about. Ferrari/Apple owners love saying how other brands are inferior, they are both overpriced and seen as 'elitist' in their markets. Neither push groundbreaking tech, just try to put out refined/higher quality products.

On the way back if you wana try again a high speed run I can recommend you the piece of A5 between Darmstadt and Frankfurt airport especially on a Sunday because of the truck ban

Try it on a sunday morning in summer, like 5AM local time in germany, there is nearly no traffic at all. In the north of germany you have also some descent flat autobahns without too many corners ;)

McLaren are on another planet at the moment, no other car manufacture can come close to their level of engineering and speed. The closest I would say is Porsche and their festidious level of detail and Pagani for their sheer thrust. What great times we live in.

Seventh gear is basically an "overdrive" gear in McLarens, it actually hits its top speed in sixth, shifting up into seventh slows it down.

This is the advantage of motorcycles... hitting those speeds is so easy, you drive some lovely cars Sam, but you're only as fast as the vehicle in front, bikes have such an everyday advantage including parking, insurance and excise duty costs... But then I drive a 1.4 tdci ford fusion 😂

In a strait line on track the Pista is going to be faster. Let's check history the 650S was out the same time as the 458Speciale and was faster in a strait line but not on track, 488GTB and 675LT came out close to the same time and strait 675LT was faster but on track the 488GTB was only .2 sec behind the hardcore McLaren so why would the Pista not match the 720S? In the straits I bet the 720S will be a little faster but on track Pista all day

To reach that speed you would probably have to go out in the early hours like Shmee did, to beat the traffic. I realise this does not fit into your road trip schedule, but would love to see you do this in future if possible. Looks like this is the kind of day that car was made for.

VERY Interesting you commented just a standard 488Gtb feels more stable at higher speed than this 720S, very interesting. In a straight line these modern supercars are usually rock solid stable over 180mph or even 200mph, maybe theres an issue with this car.

488 gtb vs 720s? That Ferrari feels like a Dacia compared to the McLaren. Buying a Ferrari is buying into the lifestyle, brand, etc. Performance wise, I don't think they're that amazing anymore.

Non German drivers are used to sharing the roads with idiots who can't drive. I feel like the majority of German drivers are good and foreigners aren't used to that and use extra caution

Really depends on what car you drive. I live very close to Germany and I sometimes drive 200 (kph) in my old Volvo V40 from '98, that's kinda scary. But when I take my parents Giulietta, 200 is just fine

The 720S is growing on me. The more I look at 1 the more I wish I could afford 1. However the 1st McLaren i'd buy would be a 570S Spider in either Sapphire Black or Volcano Orange.

Most people miss the McLaren thing at first sighting/driving. These cars are so good and capable you need lots of seat time to appreciate how much superior they are to the competition. Ferrari's and Lambos are like girls that put out on the first date and fling material whereas the McLaren girl is more classy and sophisticated and the one you should marry

Remember those cross winds. Maybe you should try hillbilly stock car drafting. One car in front of you and one car behind you.And go even faster.

The only thing i see is your inept understanding of english grammar and language! But if you want him to rename the title of the the video "Driving fast in the McLaren 720S". Then, that dumbed down version of the title you are asking for would be perfect for your stupid little brain to comprehend.

True. But "trying" or "attempting" to reach 200 mph on a busy afternoon and on a rather short de-restricted part of the Autobahn is bound to fail. I'm sure, Sam knows that as well as anybody. If you really want to have a fair try, you go there on Sunday mornings really early or the like. As it stands, however, Sam rather had a quick shot at a high speed run while on the move to another place. Which is completely fine. Just not quite an honest attempt at doing 200 mph... By the way, I found the spirited and fast driving on the Swiss mountain roads much more entertaining and worthy of being mentioned in the video's title :-)

They say 7speed but it hits top speed at 6th gear. I think 7th gear is for more fuel economy at Comfort Mode.

At Aral gasstation you get 102 octane gas in germany. Even better than at shell.
