Atheist BLINDLY Believes Biblical Faith Is BLIND

In today’s example, Atheist Quote Bot offers a definition of faith from atheist philosopher Peter Boghossian. The tweet simply reads: “Definition of Faith: Pretending to know things you don’t know.” This definition has two major problems. First, it isn’t biblical. That is, Boghossian’s definition of faith is not the Bible's definition. It's just the opposite. Biblically informed Christians define faith as trusting in what you have reason to believe is true.
Second, Boghossian's definition treats faith as a way of knowing-pretending to know things you don’t know. That’s another straw man. Christian faith is trust based on knowledge grounded in evidence. Each part of that sentence is important.
Sadly, many-like Atheist Quote Bot-will blindly believe Boghossian without looking into what Christianity actually teaches. Ironically, he just asserts his definition of faith without any evidence.

In a recent Bible study class on the book of Hebrews, I gave this explanation of faith (WRT Heb. 11:1) : Suppose that your son or daughter calls you for a ride home. He or she now has faith that you will come and pick him/her up. Why? "Faith is the substance (underlying material) of things hoped for..." (Heb. 11:1) and Hope is a reasonable expectation of a positive future event. Hope = Ride Home = Reasonably expected positive future event. Faith underlies that hope: your child has faith that you will pick him up. That faith is supported by knowledge -- Your Child knows you will pick her up because she knows you. That knowledge is based on evidence: Past experience of your behavior ... and also on Relationship: As your child he or she can call on you when needed. When your child says, "Dad's coming to pick me up" that is not a pretense of knowing what she doesn't know. It's faith in the unseen (your arrival) based on what he knows (that you have always picked him up before). Your child walks by faith and not by sight.

This is a short channel that picks apart quick and easy arguments. Considering the atheist in question thought his sentence was worth publishing in a book and atheist quote bot thought it was worth repeating there's nothing wrong with taking the five minutes to refute it. If you want more meat, this channel is linked to str, likely as a channel to advertise, which if you'd done the basic research of clicking on the channel and going to it's about page, you would know. If you're looking for more sophisticated content go to channels that do debates or lengthy proofs, I'd recommend Inspiring Philosophy, you might have to dig a bit but a channel formerly known as Pixel and Papyrus will also provide some nice content. I'm sure Dawkins has a goid reason to believe his wife exists as he has seen her everyday, felt her in his arms, heard her voice and directly communicated with her for years. Can't really get evidence more solid than that. On the other hand, when it comes to God, the evidence is 'someone wrote it in a book 2000 years ago'. We don't see, feel or hear God, all we see is supposedly the effects of God, which are inconsistent with an all powerful, all loving, supreme creator and the only explanation we get for that is 'mysterious ways'. Furthermore, there is a mountain of evidence that is not consistent with the book, so much so that in order to keep believing, most Christians had to consider the entirety of Genesis as a metaphor. Don't kid yourself, your faith is NOT based on evidence. You're mentally twisting yourself into a pretzel in order to still believe and THAT is what blind faith is.

I trust Christian Jesuits who fought foot binding, Indian slaving, Sati practising, truth seeking people. I trust the determination of Crusaders who left their riches to fight an invading and merciless opponent who was destroying everything relating to Christianity. I trust in miracles like Joan of Arc's, Francis of Assisi's, Mother Theresa's journeys. That's why I am a Christian and many many other reasons.

So respond to a perceived strawman make a strawman of the others position then give verses unrelated to biblical definition. Also then misunderstand strawman by claiming that giving a definition of blind faith means the person is describing your subjective definition of faith. So ya bad video look up some definitions and when making the biblical defiinition use the actual passages related to faith.

Tearren , yes, I don’t see a problem with that. We do it all the time. If we talk medicine people will assume the modern definition, not the ancient one. The most important thing though, when debating, is to agree on the terminology. Discussing faith when you don’t agree what it is is rather pointless. P.S. faith is not of Greek origin as far as I know.

BibleTalk101 , yes I did. However after rewatching I don’t think Dr. B’s tweet qualify as a straw man. He is simply saying “This is what I think faith is.” A straw man would be if A said “We must have faith” and B said “So you think we should follow blindly and not question”? But that’s is not what Dr B is doing here.
