The problem that arises when you have such an incredible vocalist like Jongho in the group is that a lot of the time people sleep on the rest of the vocal line. Yunho and San are very accomplished vocalists and their voices hve been well-utilized since the very beginning, but no one seems to know that??

People tends to forget that ATEEZ have amazing vocals, just because they're one of the best groups at performance and that is very difficult to see in kpop, but their soft and lighter songs for me are unique and my favorites, because you can appreciate all vocals from all members just how you did they're the whole package

Exactly! The first time I heard all their vocals was when Light was released. I knew I'd be an Atiny for life. And of course, it's when I started falling for Yunho's vocal most.

In Turbulence, it was Yunho and Yeosang when asked "who is that" =) People sleep on Yunho but he is very good. I know what you mean about Hongjoong's voice. It is so pleasing, any way he does it. Hard, or that talking rap thing he does. He is so unique. I loved your reaction and your comments! I hope you do more Ateez like this. It was soo fun to watch!

Ateez have very beautiful and unique voices and I personally love their ballads and rnb songs a lot on their albums. I’d suggest listening to Mist, Be With You, Not Too Late, Light, Star 1117 if you would like to listen to more vocal heavy songs

Thank you for this reaction. Since Ateez tends to put out harder songs for title tracks, most people won't listen to their tracks beyond those. They miss out on some of the really great B-sides that Ateez has. They have more vocal presence than some may think. Eden and Maddox are fantastic R&B vocalists so they are going to write songs that encapsulate that. If there is a critique that I have about their vocals is that I wish they would use some members more. I know that some songs call for a certain sound, but Yeosang has a very rich tone similar to BTS' V. Recently, they have been using him more, but I would like him to be more prominent. Wooyoung has a higher, breatheir tambre, but I feel that he's being used less and less, which is criminal. Jongho...we all know about Jongho, but I really love when he sings in a lower register. He recently did a sit in with Lee Mujin and he was shining! The duet he did with Mujin was also stunning. I hope that you'll take a listen. Yunho actually has a great voice, but he doesn't sing enough to showcase it. Seonghwa has a fantastic singing voice especially when he auditioned to be a rapper. I could mention more, but this post would be a novel at this point. I hope Ateez will showcase more of their vocals because I would like them to be known more for than just noise music.

@@chimoshishifu407 You may want to give these songs a listen. Ateez's Light and KQ Family's /Eden Stardust 2: Call Me Anytime. These both lean more towards the R&B side. Call Me Anytime was a special Christmas release but features vocals from Eden, Maddox, San, and Jongho (Ateez & Producers in the BG). Aay, your Christmas wish LOL This will probably the closest that we'll get to R&B for now. Maddox has a song called Color Blind that I really love. That's another recommendation.

Gosh, our wavelengths are so the same. I love low notes, more than belts actually, and I listen more to the chill and slower b-songs exactly cause I can hear the vocals. And I'm eagerly awaiting a Yunho cover arranged to showcase his musical abilities.

HongJoong wrote the song Thank U. And he wrote it for SeongHwa. It’s such a special song. 🥰

Yunho is the one who sings with Yeosang in Turbulence.

Hongjoong has solo songs w/ MVs. He sings & raps on rearranged legends like Bowie, Prince & MJ, he's got a Korean song that he plays piano on also. Jongho released an OST. Seonghwa tends to sing on his Vlives. I still love his Strawberries & Cigarettes cover. Ateez acknowledges that Jongho is a powerhouse of a vocalist, but they all say San & Yunho has the most versatile range. San's vocals are often mixed with Yunho or Jongho's, sometimes Seonghwa's. He's also the one you often here in the background. He's joked that KQ took him on as a vocalist, because lord knows he couldn't dance...which is hilarious, since that's what everyone knows him for.

I honestly think their use of harmony is underrated and by that I mean it’s really well executed and placed considering the lack of dynamics or variation in their delivery. (By dynamics I mean they don’t often use many runs or raw vocals like they used to but that applies to a lot of 3 rd gen and almost every 4th gen group)

These live performances are probably my favorite performances from them. You’re so right, their vocals and musicality are more highlighted in a live band setting. I feel like not a lot of people realize how beautiful their vocals are. People think they just release high energy “noise music”; they miss out on a lot when they don’t listen to the b-sides. I also love how you noticed Yunho’s vocals. He actually carries a lot of the harmonies and background vocals (together with Seonghwa, actually). He can hit high notes too. I love his vocals in Light, Be With You, and Still Here. If you want to listen to more of Seonghwa’s vocals, listen to Star 1117 (his runs are BEAUTIFUL, I believe there’s a live version here on YT) and White Love. I love Seonghwa’s rich tone. I also agree with what you said about Hongjoong’s voice, it’s so melodic and a nice contrast to Mingi’s voice. 🥰

Truth! The contrast between Hongjoong and Mingi is one of the reasons I liked in Ateez when they debuted.

great great reaction because i actually tired of shallow ones like yea he is good yea i like his voice but really every one of them is unique in his own way and if u want to hear hongjoong singing he do a lot of solo covers also he did a whole busking and it was amazing u will find it in their yt channel thank u sm for this and i hope u do more

thank you so much for appreciating ateez's vocals!!! i feel like because they're so well-known for their performances and energy, the quality and charm in each member's voice can go a bit underappreciated (save for jongho of course lol), but at the same time, i think it also acts as the most pleasant and sweet surprise when people dive deeper into them! and i loved how you not only talked about the vocalists, but also had input on the rappers as well! and i also always love seeing people appreciate yunho's vocals more 😌

among the members, fans praise hongjoong and jongho for how stable they are in their live stages. all the members are really good but hongjoong and jongho probably are better bc they use their voices more than the others (hj with composing and jongho-need i say more) hahah.

First, your ad libs were great! Thank you so much for doing this. I've been waiting for someone to give their thoughts on ATEEZ's It's Live performances. I've heard more than a few people say that ATEEZ doesn't have a great vocal line outside of Jongho. Clearly, those people haven't watched them sing B-sides. I think there's a tendency to assume high notes = Jongho, low notes = Mingi which, as you saw, isn't true. Quick note: Thank U is the song Hongjoong wrote his lyrics thinking of Seonghwa. Yunho learns choreo so quickly that the others rely on him to help them with the details of their dances. He and Mingi were in a dance academy/club, but Yunho actually majored in vocals at Seoul School of Performing Arts (SOPA--the same school Jungkook graduated from). He sings with ease and has nice vocal range. He said his classmates were probably surprised by his dancing because he never really mentioned it at school. It's funny how now he's more associated with dance than vocals. Seonghwa started as a rapper but became a vocalist. He also has good vocal range. The quality of his voice has a bit more tension (for lack of a better term) making his voice have a bit of a cry which often sounds more emotive than Yunho's. I think that's why he seems to get just a bit more lines than Yunho. San's voice is lovely and I think it's impressive that he can belt and not be completely drowned out by Jongho. One day I watched these and later ended up watching a comparison of 4th gen male vocalists. What stood out to me was how similar the Hybe trained vocalists sounded. You can definitely tell Wooyoung started at Bighit. Suggestions: Jongho Don't Go Today on Lee Mujin's show Jongho's duet with Lee Mujin (Ocean Waves). Hongjoong's cover of Lemon Tree ATEEZ's Not Too Late (for Streaming Culture because the vocals are forward) ATEEZ's Utopia in Seoul ATEEZ's cover of Stay on You Heeyeol's Sketchbook ASF Hongjoong and Maddox All About You

This was such a great reaction and I feel like you have a really good grasp on our boys' voices! You made a lot of good observations and had rly engaging commentary. Thank you so much for this video. You mentioned not connecting to a lot of ateez's harder/more high energy music but I do promise that they have a wonderfully diverse discography with songs that would be more your vibe! Just off the top of my head I would love to recommend Light, Be With You, Mist, Aurora, Star 1117, Utopia, Not Too Late, All About You, and perhaps Cyberpunk off their new album if you haven't heard it yet! I chose songs where their vocals particularly shine (in my opinion!). Also I would absolutely die for you to watch/react to Jongho on Lee Mujin's Service which is a program about singing here on YT. Honestly loved this reaction video 😭 Light has my fave Yunho vocals, and even tho u didn't react to it, im glad he's getting the appreciation he deserves 😭❤️

My eldest Atiny daughter campaigned to turn me into an Atiny and it worked because she used their vocals as bait! I originally balked because I thought they were "too edgy." I'm a vocalist and I think you'll be happy with their ballads! "Be With You" lets you hear each member clearly. Their tones are so complimentary to each other and the emotion in their voices is touching--they've had a hard time not crying when they sing this live. "Not Too Late" is another emotional one and you'll love to hear your boy Mingi singing higher and more lightly, as well as hearing more from Yeosang and Hongjoong. "Mist" isn't a very well-known b-side and isn't a ballad, but it is definitely worth a listen if not just for Wooyoung's high notes and San's as well. By the way, "Thank U" was written by Hongjoong to thank Seonghwa for always being there for him.

[Long post ahead, because have you met me?!] Yay I'm so happy that you did this!! San is the group's lead vocalist, so it makes sense that he's out there killing it, and I absolutely agree that San's vocal style is very free and open. He doesn't seem strain for most notes, even when it seems like a note might be harder to get to. The San/Jongho Choi cousins (they did find out they're distantly related!) harmony in Turbulence is perfection, and Seonghwa coming into that is gorgeous. Yunho is super underrated as a vocal. He has a surprising range from the lows in things like Hala Hala to the higher notes of Aurora. Seonghwa can be pitchy sometimes, and he's improved over time. He also has an incredible range as well, from his soft rap in Dreamers to Utopia's super high notes. I hope they have an opportunity to use him more. I'd highly recommend his Story Never Ends (kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZI2OmaSepNi5ZKw.html) and his Pink Sweat$ At My Worst covers (kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZqCApshwpNWxecY.html), the latter of which shows his range. Yeosang is coming into his own with this most recent comeback. I think it took him a bit to really get a feel for what he's capable of and to train his technique up. His Me After You cover just sitting in the studio will never not be iconic (kzread.info/dash/bejne/qYdlu9qcc6zWkcY.html). Wooyoung hasn't done enough solo work to really highlight his range, but here's a rando of him singing (kzread.info/dash/bejne/dpxnwdicp8e0dbQ.html). Hong Joong has done the most solo stuff of any of the members, and he sings and plays piano here (kzread.info/dash/bejne/gpmoqc-ApMy5fpM.html) and sings here (kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z2mlxpaqXaeomdY.html). He does affect so many different tones when he raps, and it's always fun to see what he's going to do next. Mingi doesn't really sing that we've seen, but I think he, like Yeosang, is now finding out more of what he's capable of doing vocally. I love him so much, so I'm biased in talking about him! I felt the brotherhood comment. ;) Jongho is always spectacular. Oddly, I don't always like his tone because it feels (not sounds, and isn't) forced sometimes. It's just his tone, it's not something he's doing. It feels heavy, is maybe the way to describe it? So many who have a higher range can access it and produce "light" sounds, and Jongho's higher range always feels heavier than theirs. Again, no slight in that, just a personal observation. I love that they make use of his talents, though I do wish sometimes that they'd use other members who could do similar, just so every song wasn't Jongho-reliant. I feel bad for our maknae shouldering a lot of the burden, even if he does it brilliantly. For next watch, maybe Hong Joong's busking session -- with standout amazingness from KQ member Maddox (All About You: kzread.info/dash/bejne/p2SIlrKEmZXVhdo.html) -- the full, translated one is here (kzread.info/dash/bejne/h62b2rSumKXfg6w.html). Nice reaction! a lot of people sleep on ateez vocals and songs. Their b-sides aren't always as heavy as their title tracks and they have a loooot of beautiful songs. (some more ballad songs are; star 1117 is their song to the fandom and it''s so beautiful, another favorite of mine is Be with you and Not too late) Hearing ateez live is also a huge pleasure, they have a very nice mix of vocals like you said and they use it well! I love Jongho and his power vocals (he's absolutely amazing live in concert) but San and Yunho are my favorite voices in the group!

It’s quite interesting what you’re saying about the harmonizing. I grew up singing harmony to my mom’s melody. So I always would find the harmony to any song I heard. But when I listen to ATEEZ I hardly ever do it. I feel like I can just sing the Melody along with them. It’s such a different experience for me and kind of a relief (even though I enjoy figuring out harmonies). I think Edenary does an amazing job of filling out the songs so you can just relax and experience them. Not sure how to say it. But I think you’ll get me.

If you loved hongjoongs vocals you should listen to his covers, by hongjoong, were he arranges songs and sings them in his style, his latest one is lemon tree! It’s amazing ✨💗

Finally someone appreciates Yunho´s vocal. He has really good vocals but bearly gets good vocal parts on their title tracks to showcase that. I think the problem with Ateez is that their producer rely too much on Jongho`s vocals. It feels like they are writing songs to fit Jongho´s vocals. Jongho is amazing vocalist but sometimes i think is just too much that i feel bad for him. He does singing parts, high notes and adlibs. He bearly has time to rest/ get breath while they perform. I hope their producer starts to realize Ateez has other members with amazing vocals too. San just started to get some good parts to shine his vocals i hope other members get that chance too.

Be with you and not too late are beautiful vocal show cases and really give Yunho and Seonghwa their moments to shine. I also feel like Celebrate is an incredible vocal with a video. But more gospely. Even some of their earlier songs like twilight and light show off excellent vocals. Yunhos falsetto on twilight actually got me into Ateez in the first place. Ah thank you so much for this thorough and thoughtful reaction. Also Seonghwa did a heart rending cover of at my worst and hongjoong has incredible David Bowie and Michael Jackson covers if you want to hear their solo voices more.

They do have several similar performances out there - The Kolor was an outdoors session with a band ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/nKmn3KutpdSads4.html ), they performed some slow songs at the Zero: Fever Part 3 comeback showcase, Be With You at the Movement one (although sound engineering was atrocious), there were several during Summer Vacation Camp, they also did some songs with nearly raw vocals for Kiss The Radio.

ahhh i recommend watching choi jongho's recent feature on lee mujin service!! he does a few covers and my absolute favorite is his brian mcknight cover of "another you"!!! he brought me to TEARS.

15:38 It might be too late for you to see this but Hongjoong recently did the Lee Mujin service, and he sings there nearly the entire time! You should definitely check it out.
