I bought ATC SCM40s a decade ago and they have greatly increased my apreciation of music. Looking nice in white, mine are cherry.

These are my favorite speakers that I’ve ever had. The only other speaker I would consider would be a higher end ATC model.

One of the best sounding speakers I've had were Tetra 606 which had the ATC SM75 mid bass driver. Yes, definitely needed subs and room treatment. I would love to build a pair of speakers with those drivers.

Hey, I got a pair like that! White too. I'm actually listening to this video on a pair of ATC's SCM7's too. Good stuff.

What speakers are You using now? I am looking for SCM40A (because of all the benefits of active amplification, but also consider ProAc, run by Hegel or Electrocomapniet.

Regarding the low end and bass. You need nearer 2 months of regular use of these speakers from new for the bottom end to really show itself. ( based on my listening levels at or below 70dB ). I was wondering where the precise, powerful and detailed bass had gone that I heard when I demoed them. It has now arrived. Yes, if you want the room to shake with, for example, the LFO drops in James Blake’s Limit to your love, you’ll need a sub with these as you would with most speakers. However, unless the sub and its amplification is up to the standard of these speakers you’ll get a mistimed distraction. These need much more than 2 days use before they will ‘sing’.

Hi. Love your videoes. Is audiovector one of the best speakers you have owned?

The Audiovector were one of my favorites. The pair I had weren’t in the best condition when I bought them. I would like to try another pair of R3 or R6 in the future.

ATCs are a tough habit to kick once they grab you! I'm on pair four currently, active 50ASL towers. I'll be interested to find out your take; quite a change from the Eggleston Works.
